For people who actually enjoy the Hellboy comics and the way the character was made to be portrayed - this movie was spectacular. It closely followed its source material and the character of Hellboy was just that, HELLBOY! It's not the weird, Del Toro superhero-wannabe version of Hellboy that is the reason Mignola will not let Del Toro touch the character again. The Del Toro movies, while fun, are NOT the Hellboy character Mignola created. Not even close.

Hellboy: the Crooked Man has issues, but it has my respect. Most of its shortcomings are due to its shoestring budget. There are so many movies with budgets of +100 mil, which can’t stick the landing. When I see something that has very little to work with, but does the absolute best it can with that, that movie gets my respect. Also, felt this was a pretty good movie that conveyed the right tone for the character. Maybe smaller budgets (not this small) are the way to go with this property.

Primarily just a full-on horror story to the point you forget it's a comic book adaptation, until the Ghost Rider comes in to fuck shit up. Oh you mean the Golden Army and the beast destroying the whole world/all of humanity? Yeah..small…
@omniframe8612Ай бұрын
@@joeyfromnowhere no one is talking about GDT’s hellboy movies, those are superhero hellboy movies. Theyre not even accurate theyre their own thing with their own takes on that world and the characters. Even Mignola said to keep GDT’s movies his movies and keep the comics the comics. A lot of hellboy stories NOT THE INACCURATE MOVIES. Are very small and take place in small towns. Things get big with events sure?… but the biggest events within the mignolaverse have been BPRD related with hellboy only coming back during the final arc to fight Rasputin before the new race of man was born and humanity went extinct. A lot of hellboy is backwoods horror, and in the comics he’s famous so a lot of the fights and big monsters stuff happens with people already knowing about it.

As someone who grew up on hellboy comics and read the crooked man many times being my favorite hellboy story, i think they nailed it. The new hellboy actors makeup and occasional quipts are spot on and the horror vibe was on point and the casting and dialogue from the cast was fantastically done. Cora, Effie and the Reverend were so perfect in their dialogues and acting. The crooked man and Tom were pretty good too. My only complaints is there was certain cuts and writing choices that felt a little off every now and then and obviously the cgi wasnt perfect and i really wouldve liked to see more of the creepy centipedes and bugs vibe for the witches from the comic instead of birds and snakes but its fine. Overall i had alot of fun and was so excited when events from the comics came up. Definitely better than the last reboot although i loved harbour. Solid 8/10 for me.

I have extremely high hopes with James Gunn's Superman. A great Superman film hasn't been seen since Superman 2. Maybe James Gunn will reinvent DC for good.
@boboboy8189Ай бұрын
If you think James gunn will do good, you obviously never read superman comic. Red flag from gunn's superman movie 1) gunn admit to not following source material 2) superman legacy will cramped with D list JL member because gunn didn't know how to direct solo superhero movie 3) his movie will be another guardian of the galaxy but this time swap each character with DC Before you said I'm haters, I love his slither movie and I want him to return back to that genre. Since super (2010), he didn't direct nothing else but superhero movie which is worrisome because every superhero movie he did basically same jokes if you watch them all back to back. How to fixed superman legacy 1) follow Source material, they have 85 years of source material they can choose from but my favourite always been earth one post crisis although it's dark and serious but I can see gunn should do earth 2 post crisis because it's much more light hearted and family friendly 2) replaced D list JL character with superman side character. Martian manhunter, Steel or superboy can be use if he want to 3) never copy paste MCU jokes and formula into DC, create your own style that fits with DC. superman supposed to be conservative while Lois Lane supposed to be liberal. Use that as yin and yang for their interaction and never reuse Starlord x Gamora relation ship because it's not how clark x Lois supposed to have Finally, hired a better fight choreographer. I didn't impress at all when GoTG 3 finale fight scene because it's felt something is off.

Fair review. I support this movie because it will make way for more like this of Hellboy series but hopefully done better. It's a kind of decent movie for what they were working with. It's best to go in not expecting much. It does a good job being horror and superhero comicish. We need more that. It does drag out some dull moments but it ends decently.

I appreciate the review. I had fears after the trailer and you confirmed those fears. Here is what I have watched and will watch for the rest of the month. I am only allowing myself one movie a day and they all had to be stuff I own on physical media. 1) Hell House LLC 2) Blair Witch Project 3) The Exorcist 4) Texas Chainsaw Massacre 5) Wrong Turn 6 ) The Hills Have Eyes 7) X 8) As Above So Below 9) Friday the 13th 10) The Beach House 11) Grave Encounters 12) Night of the Living Dead 13) Resident Evil 14) House of the Dead 15) The Houses October Built 16) Insidious 17) The Conjuring 18) Haunt 19) Satanic 20) Wolf Creek 21) Prince of Darkness 22) Paranormal Activity 23) House of 1000 Corpses 24) Candyman 25) Evil Dead (2013) 26) Nightmare on Film St 27) Rec or Quarantine 28) It Follows 29) Hell Fest 30) Tricks Treat 31) Halloween

I’m a longtime Hellboy comicbook fan. I thought the Del Toro Hellboy was brilliant - but this one is so true to the comicbooks I can’t help but love it.

Nice critique...genuine and informative. How were movies like "Godzilla minus One" and "Prey".. made on a budget? Hell, even the old B grade movies back in the 50/60's with dismal budgets...yet they rose to the occasion. Where is the imagination the directors are suppose to have? Have you seen some of the fan-made movies?? These Studios allow producers or bean counters to interfere far too much and often. Every movie needs to be a "Blockbuster"...just concise and entertaining for 2 hours. I always root for the little guy....be it, the hero or the director. Come on ..underdogs show your grit!! Yeah, Ron Perlman is the only true Hellboy.

I went to see this first day out in the cinema and I really liked it. A solid 7/10. As a fan of the comics, this is very accurate. It all comes down to whether you're on board with the small scale, independent feel of the film. It kind of has that cabin in the woods feel to it and it just had some financial constraints. Had the studio just put in the same amount of funds as they did the previous films, it would have been incredible. It can be overly dark at times, especially for the final act of the film. Even in a cinema with the lights out, I was trying harder than I should to work out what was happening. I still really enjoyed it regardless. 7/10
