I know that's a common defense and my rebuttal is that there still should be something. Even if it was just getting a unique faction like the Jet Brigade for the Terminids with this major order, but instead it's just another nothing-burger MO that's just about grinding the game and filling up meters and like a lot of players, I'm burnt out on that.

Up until 8:23. You had my attention. At this point; I've realized that there is a disconnection between you and helldivers 2 gameplay philosophy. Seasons are a concept that would ruin the type of game they are going for. Helldivers is intended to be a one adventure happening continuously. In games like this, there are meant to be these large points of not knowing what to do, and things feeling repetitive. This is natural progress in this type of game. Much like when a DM is preparing for a new campaign in DND, this will happen. To more so elaborate. The loops are meant to be something for people who genuinely don't want to put the game down to have something to do in the mean time. Yes, the DSS is a repetitive content type thing. But, the fact is, it wouldn't feel like that is what it is when people actively put the game down, and have the patience to return to the game with the repetitive content on hand. I personally, haven't put the game down a single day since release, and I understand where these concerns come from in terms of "Filler MO's". but the truth is, it does actively only feel that way because we didn't put the game down. To all my other friends who literally put the game down after the children situation, and who put the game down during the Sony fiasco, to them it doesn't feel like a loop. It feels like they are fighting for something. But I do agree on the fact that the MO doesn't need to be active at all times. The MO should give us some sort of boost for the things we do. Things we don't get now, but overall as far as the game philosophy goes. Seasons would ruin it. They would take away from the experience. To be said, I am not content with the state of things, but I am aware of what it is taking to make this game run and move it's story. I ran a online role play server for an mmo for 15 years v-v I kinda know a thing o two about what arrowhead is doing and struggling with. Granted from the pov of a smaller scale studio. TLDR; The concept of seasons and story resets will break what Helldivers is aiming Studio needs time to cook, but they also need to accept that sometimes cooking means letting people enjoy what has been cooked without trying to give them filler content.

I was really pissed when the bots came back right after all that effort to kick them out of the galaxy. I'd definitely like to see more results/meaning to our hard work, and MOs that progress the war in some way that doesn't result in resetting the map a few days after we achieve a major victory. Having said that, the game is incredibly fun now, I can't imagine how mind-blowing it would be if they made the necessary changes to the story to take advantage of our work.

@MrJack2449
@MrJack2449 10 күн бұрын
You trying to find a lore reason for their quick return is adorable. When the player base pushed them back, the game developers were clearly not expecting players to do that so early and quickly. Hence why they returned only after a few days. The bots are only one of two enemy groups. The map already looked empty at that time. It would've put the nail in the coffin for the game to not have them back.

Right now we're still missing the third faction so it feels like we've been in pre-game limbo and nothing has really started because the game isn't complete. The current MO is terrible as well. Had an idea recently. If there was a way to harvest the element that freezes you in those plants that slow you down on the frozen planets, we could theoretically gain access to freezing weapons. They would slow and eventually freeze targets completely as well as lowering the armor rating of frozen targets. It makes sense inside the universe, freezing weapons would be fun and fairly easy to implement since the slow mechanic already exists and the cinematic value of freezing a stalker just before it strikes or a charger just before it tramples you sounds awesome

I think a cool mission type that could be used for the DSS. There would be on a certain planet new towers have been planted that generate ARC energy to help fuel the DSS, and we gotta go down and defend or liberate them from the automatons that are using them to power new arc weapons or even use them as arc mortars against us.

I love hell divers 2, and I am an active player. but things are starting to get kind of stale for me. I completely agree with the major orders. They are very dull, but honestly the thing I really want in this game is new Contant. I am tired of only getting a war bond every month with new weapons a few cosmetics maybe one new strategy. I would like it for them to add some new mission types, new game modes, or maybe add some of those leaked vehicles that people showed us at the beginning of the game or maybe a new faction or new enemies. just something new Contant wise that has nothing to do with new weapons, balancing, and maybe a new strategy that’s a weapon. not that the weapons are boring or bad. I think all the weapons in the game are perfectly balanced same as stratagems, I think they did everything they could with the weapons and strategies, I just think it’s time to focus other stuff in the game. Also I was a little disappointed on liberty Day. I expected more than just armor and a cape and a weapon, I was really expecting some new content. Those are just my thoughts and opinions maybe we expect too much out of this game.

Fully agree with all your takes. I feel at this point the DSS should already be ready to go and with it we can push deeper into Automaton territory until we reach the sector where Cyberstan is and that’s when we get to see the Cyborgs for the first time. Cyborgs should definitely come first before The Illuminate, giving us something more to chew on before the other faction reveal. We also just need more depth in the maps. Put settlements and cities in Super Earth controlled planets, add 2 more Helldivers to a squad, release vehicles, and give us the ability to add attachments and upgrades to our weapons. It’s all coming eventually but we just have to play the long waiting game, hope we get some more stuff soon that keeps it feeling fresh.

Kinda iffy as you made some good points but also some I really don't agree upon, mainly the "Seasons" arguement but I really don't want to write a page about how this wouldn't fit and do more harm to HD2 than good. As far as MO's I'd say it's not completely that we're defending the same damn planets, but it's the same damn mission and it's getting very stale. On top of that it doesn't feel good when you liberate a planet, log off for the night, come back several hours later and the planet has been completely taken over w/ zero chance to defend it. Earning a victory only to have the prize taken away during your nap doesn't feel good. All in all I'd say: 1. More missions - the current ones have gone quite stale 2. Stop taking anywhere from 1-5 planets overnight w/o giving us a chance to muster to save some of them 3. Make MO's feel rewarding rather than getting 0 medals on completion - I like the idea that you'd get an extra strategem to play with or a booster for a few days (until next MO completes/fails) because as of now the only reason most divers are even doing it is out of boredom or just to see what the next step towards the DSS will be. 4. Currency sink - their hasn't been anything to buy for quite some time now and being capped on req slips and samples makes bee-lining obj the main thing since theirs no point to clear side obj's (Unless it's a station to show the map to SC farm easier). Sure it's nice to spend medals when a new bond comes out but within a day or two you're back to being maxed out with everything bought.

I'll go a step further... I think they should assign someone to roleplay the general overseeing each front, and have them EACH declare a MO for their front. Have Joel DM a resource system so they can provide different rewards and bonuses (both for the MO and for Dailies - btw, I'd also make it so that the player can assist both, but can only choose 1 reward so your choices matter!) to Helldivers helping on their front. Throw in a few other actors, like the Ministry of Truth and the.. is it a President that rules from Superearth? Spend an hour or two each week roleplaying out this would add a lot of story depth

A big thing that's missing from the major orders that would vastly improve the experience is having planets under the MO behave differently than standard missions(obviously not all the time). They've done this before and I know they're trying it with the jet brigade but it isn't done nearly enough. We've yet to have another Creek planet when they specifically said we would a long time ago. Not even meridia got that treatment other than its special mission type. You'd think a colony world would have 5 times the spawn rates and patrols or something like that. They literally said there was no reason to fight there because it was so infested. Planets also need to be more important. A fight for a planet feels more like a skirmish than it does literal world war breaking out every time one gets invaded. Rather than having several planets be the MO objective, only one at a time or in some cases 2 should be the MO. Losing a planet should have severe consequences. There would be week long fight over a single planet and as time goes by it gets more and more ravaged. Each planet also needs multiple biomes like earth does so that it doesn't stagnate. The enemy spawn rates need to be dynamic for each planet. MO planets that are getting quote on quote hammered never really are. Their decay rate is just higher. Having this visibly be the case with huge spawn rates forcing people to play lower difficulties would be awesome. At the end of the day they just feel like a restriction on where you can play and the rate at which we capture planets is going to make the experience of doing so feel so meaningless and dull pretty soon. And they want this war to go on forever. That's just not going to hold up in the future with the way they do things.

Smaller rewards would be awesome. Imagine something like major order permit grants where after completing an obj you’re granted an extra random stratagem to bring along for the rest of the MO 😮🤯

The season idea, reminded me of the first helldivers. Which was one of the reason I liked it. Our choices mattered a lot more then, but it did feel like you just going through the motions by your 6th to 8th war. This time with the no reset MO do sometimes feel like they have low stakes and we have these peaks and valleys of story telling. I wouldn't want another DSS string of MOs again but I still do enjoy the game and looking forward to what comes next.

What about the jet brigade? what about building outposts on planets? Let them cook! Over the course of 60 days, they repaired most of the weapons and stratagems to make the gameplay more enjoyable. After all, they were even recently looking for a new GM. When they finish the DSS update, I'm practically sure that more interesting MOs with an interesting story will appear. Gloom is waiting and we will probably be attacked by the Iron Legion. Additionally, I predict squids will appear on the game's anniversary date. Just take a break from the game and come back when you feel like playing if you're bored.

I think the issue I have with the major order is somewhat similar to an issue I have with larger scale rts games (the kind where you have to save a ton rather than a quick in and out scrap) where the rewards are a bare ones and easy to farm resource. They should be more strategic and meta buffs like the training camps at the actual start of the galactic war. So I'm taking a page out of an RTS that actually does pull this off well, star wars:empire at war There should be more planetary buffs for certain planets that help with the war effort, like liberation rates or other buffs (more mech call downs perhaps) And, to really emphasize that it's a war rather than a fun co-op shooter with some window dressing, have certain planets act as bottlenecks for the enemy where they're the only routes in and out of a sector. So that the community has to hold them against massive attacks to prevent them from spilling over and stretching the front lines too thin. Or hell, do the buffing thing for the enemies, certain planets give them benefits like stronger hulk weak spots or making shriekers an uncommon enemy in bug breaches. I'm just desperate for games with more emergent story telling and long term campaigns (in a 4X game kinda way, not DND) with gameplay mechanics that really play into that. So many games just scrape at it but lack a certain key feature that makes them reach that perfect niche.

I agree, the MO makes me feel like we're in limbo. Plus, it is incredibly railroaded. Wherever there isn't a MO, the planets have an insanely high refresh rate, making it impossible for any progress to happen wherever the devs don't want it. You will only ever see 0% on those unimportant worlds, so they are softlocked into being invisible walls we can't cross unless they want it. It was never that way when people were fighting in and around Malevelon Creek...all of those planets could be taken or lost based purely on choices of every player. They didn't set the Creek's refresh percentage to high so as to discourage players from being there and making no progress. It was actually a place where victory was possible so people were lulled into staying. Plus, the defense missions we are softlocked into doing right now...are repetitive and boring af. I'm so over them. Now to get on for another dive

In 1 when you wipe out the faction homeworld that faction's dissapear, until the reset, or if superearth falls, everything is reseted and a new war cycle starts.

The last new mission type was the orbital cannons. That was over 3 months ago. the game has been out for 8 months. The first 5 months we got so many mission types. defense missions, activate termacide, deactivate termacide and destroy mutated eggs, meridia dark fluid, nuke nursery, and orbital cannons. I might be missing some, but that's more than 1 new mission every month. I would say that if MO fails, instead of neff the players, let the enemy mass produce certain classes, such as bots that only spawn tanks, or bugs that all mutate into stalkers. Just a thought.

I went into this video agreeing with the premise that MO need some changing, after/during your video I realized that the problem is only having the MO and PO as an activity/reason to log in. Any game that has an ongoing story is bound to have some filler stuff pop up, so it's natural to have instances where content will be dragged on, specially when the developers have to take unplanned time to patch bugs and rebalance weapons which will slow down patches relevant to the story. I'm sure AH is well aware of this issues hence why they are hiring a second game master as well as creating new currencies to keep people farming stuff. The MO is there just to direct where the community should be, and making you feel like a valuable asset to the community. I would argue that the bigger issue is the personal orders, the one we currently get are not relevant to the story and feel like an after thought. Perhaps having a personal order that will result in buff instead of the MO will be better. Imo, there should also be a bit of story/lore that develops with your destroyer crew. Even if you are expendable as a character, there is little bit of zero to hero hinted in game with how ranking work, going from cadet to admiral and beyond. It will be nice if they play on it a bit more with the personal orders, maybe giving you special titles for completing a weekly personal order on top of the daily personal orders.

I'm totally with you on this. Remember when they turned Meridia into a black hole and everyone thought "that's it, new enemies are coming". Well, it's been months and nothing happened. Sure, the whole rebalance thing took a lot of resources, but still. Fantastic game, but super disappointed because of how they treat the narrative.

Who remembers Chrome hounds in the early 2000s? Because your version of seasons for Helldivers reminds me of that. Instead of it humans versus two AIs. Chrome hounds had it there was three factions and you got to pick what faction you want to fight for. And you take over territories finding other factions NBC fights and actual PVP fights and giant mech suits that you customize. And if one faction took over the territory of another faction that faction was gone and the seasons last until one faction took over the entirety of the three territories. It could last a week or could last month it was fun and entertaining. They did seasons before seasons even existed lol

The DSS MOs really indicate Arrowhead took the wrong lesson from Malevalon Creek. "Boy, these guys love fighting over specific planets - let's see if we can make another Malevalon by having them fight on the same ground." I think the arrival of a second GM will solve a lot of this, but Helldivers has a _pacing_ issue, not just an MO issue.

I fully agree with what you're saying. But you missed one major thing that has come out of this month long story and that's the Jet Brigade. In essence this alters the spawn rates of specific enemies on a certain planet and turns it to 11. I love this idea because certain spawn rates can force specific loadouts. Some of which were weapons you'd likely not use normally. Since then all we've seen is the Jet Brigade so I hope that they don't scrap this mechanic at all. I want not only the Jet Brigade to be a permanent roaming faction but I want multiple. Imagine an all acidic bug faction. Or the bots having higher level armor. Or Factor striders and tanks spawning at even low levels. This freshes up gameplay because you'll not see these spawns normally and if you're tired of that yoh can just go to a different planet.

In Helldivers 1 - when the playerbase cleared the map and wiped out all of the enemy factions the you got a pat on the head, the Universe reset entirely and everything got more difficult - be it greater spawn rates of enemies, or more health and damage from all enemies then you were told to do it again. I wouldn't mind that mechanic coming back.

Bruh, you guys all need to stop complaining about these orders. Not as much the guy who made this video, but mostly people whining on Reddit and in the comments. This guy is okay with constructive criticism. This game was made by 100 people, this ain’t a massive studio! Cut these people some slack, and let them work. The plot is going fine, and we still have a decent sense of community. Our decisions still matter (except bug divers) and the buff divers update has seriously delayed plans after everybody left the game the second it got too hard. Arrowhead has plans, and it’s gonna be awesome. We need to be PATIENT.

I agree that major orders should be more compelling. The DSS better be really cool for all this time we're putting into it. But I wholeheartedly disagree with the seasons idea. Part of what makes Helldivers cool is the dynamic nature that is constantly changing based on what players do. What Arrowhead needs to do more of are the "make a choice" style major orders like they've done a little bit. Like as a community we either need to do Thing A or Thing B. We won't be able to get both done and there will be positive and negative consequences, some of which we might not expect. That's the stuff that makes them compelling. But I definitely like the idea of temporary nerfs/based on failure/success, or even adding the "this stratagem is free for a week" when we complete a big one.

I'm not sure I'd call this complaining. This is constructive criticism where they have fallen short of expectations. Expectations they themselves have created with their marketing and previous efforts for world building within the experience for the game. Even with the Buffdiver changes, I have complaints. I'm over 500 hours in and I do enjoy the game still, but there is room for improvement. I'm saying that as someone who was also a Helldivers 1 player. There are systems I'd love to see from the first game get integrated into Helldivers 2, not sure that'll ever happen but its been seen Arrowhead does have a creative approach to their games and give themselves room for improvement.

Instead of seasons they should do campaigns where you have set special objectives and story with about a month to complete giving stratagems, other rewards and weakening the defeated faction or buffing them if we loose. once defeated the next campaign should switch to another faction. change major order to be a weekly thing maybe two of them giving medals and super credits and add two more dailies to do allowing 3 per day. they should fit with the current campaign so if fighting bugs they should be bug focused. another thing that would be cool is capitol city battles. once the planet is taken the capitol city must be defended to fully gain control. say bots take a planet. we get 24 hrs to defend a city map with many defensive things set up to help. if we win they lose a chuck of control giving us a chance to take the planet back. if we loose they get the planet. this would also be the case for use when we try to take planets.

There's an interesting complaint about going to the same planet. I almost don't care about planets and only see the map design. The missions are the same anyways so the planet don't matter. The environment is maybe the same so people are bored and want to be sent to a different planet? New theme mission is needed, even if it's just one new mission big MO type.

I agree with the consensus that they have been busy trying to get the base gameplay to a good state and have had little time to allocate to creating new content, which also lends to the recent warbonds being somehwhat lighter on new gameplay content. Now that the game is in a good spot, focus should be centered on new gameplay and narrative developments. I know a couple of divers who have been waiting for months to redownload as they've been waiting for the squids to launch.

Completely understand where you're coming from. But I still think that instead of seasons, the autpmatons would be wiped out for a bit (like you said) and the terminids would grow stronger with new variants, and as the terminids get weakened, the automatons make a stronger return that forces us to split our army. And yeah, some cool cosmetics would be nice as well as maybe some new stratagems and weapons. Also really hate those guys who make multiple videos on one update every 5 hours.

I think the MO problem is a mix of the 60 day patch taking a lot of dev time and maybe blowing their load a little too early. The first 3 months was hectic and was constantly adding content. TCS mission, undo TCS, Supercolony, turning meridia into a black hole, new stratagems every month, new ship upgrades, etc. there’s like 4 mission types from the first 3 months of the game that are just unusable. All the dev time spent making those maps and objectives and after a week they’re gone and will probably never be seen again (at least until the war ends and the story resets). If the DSS isn’t this huge hub and clan system that a lot of people think it’ll be it won’t be pretty.

In the beginning I wanted to complete the MO's because they had a cool story to it and fun mission types or unlocked stratagems. Nowadays it just feels like completing the MO has no meaning to it. So first I want to say that I get your points and frustration, especially as a long time player. But I think in this case it isn't as easy as it seems. First of the Automaton eradication. I get why they brought them back, because there are players playing exclusively against them like there are Bugdivers who exclusively play against Bugs. If you take the Automatons of the map for a longer time it sure helps the story to feel more alive but you will lose on those players. That's a tough decision. Second the slow content development. Arrowheads Devs seem to me like they are pretty invested in this game so I don't think the problem is with them but rather with Sony. The PSN drama for example, binds a lot of dev time I think because Sony wants that account requirement back in. Also Sony doesn't care about the game itself just about money and I think that is why we got so many warbonds recently. And since the game is cross platform you have to make sure PC and PlayStation are at the same version and I remember reading that it can take a long time for a patch to get through Sony's quality control and onto the PS. So that might be another stepping stone for Arrowhead to deliver more content. This is all speculation of course but I have the feeling that how the devs behave and react that they would love to give us more of what we want but can't. I play right now with two friends who got the game recently and enjoy it a lot but I noticed that they don't really care about Major Orders or the story yet. They just play and enjoy themselves in the chaos on the battlefield. I hope that we will get more diversity as soon as the DSS is launched and that the devs can concentrate more on developing such content but I feel it in my guts that Sony has a lot of influence in the decision making and in which direction the game goes. Sorry for the wall of text and I hope you get what I'm talking about.

Yeah i'm for change and rewarded for our efforts. The whole galactic warfront is such a mess. What's up with the black hole and the mother bug? The trickle change isn't change enough we need new missions and variations with play styles. The same missions over and over are getting so stale. They need to retire every one of them and give us all fresh material and layouts of fortresses and bug hives. Maybe more verticality. Buff divers was needed but they need to put their heads into making new content. The dss is just an addition to what we're already doing. The AR and sub machine guns all need 10 -15 rounds added to the clips. They aren't effective in most situations and over shadowed by specialty energy weapons and shotguns.

Its very clear that the devs have been far more focused on bug fixing and proper balancing than content expansion for the past 6 months, and it shows. The game balance and bug wise is the best its been since launch.... But clearly this has come at the cost of new content. Back in the early few weeks of the war, MOs felt more substantial and gave us new things like new weapons and stratagems. I can't even remember the last time we got a new stratagem from a MO now... Luckily, i think they are done with the bug fixing and rebalancing, so they can refocus on making content again.

What you speak of in regards to dividing the game into seasons, and have possible outcomes like "wiping the automatons off the map" is sort of just describing helldivers 1's Galactic Wars. I suspect we will get a style of live service such as this near the end of the games live service, because if we had the ability to wipe factions off the map now when the Automatons have cyberstan and the bugs are seemingly developing their homeworlds, it would be anticlimactic to invade cyberstan or Gemstone Bluffs or whatever and have them be generic planets. Essentially, what im trying to say is the game you're looking for will come eventually, but definitely not now. I also think the 63 day plan may have set back dev time, but thats merely speculation.
