Yeah, from what I learned from Splatoon the stick sensitivity should match your strafe speed, this way you can strafe and shoot at the same time because a lot level strategy was just going behind other players who couldn't turn fast enough

Disagree. I use flick stick to augment my x axis movement. Just wish Rewasd would allow me to designate the size of the no-flick zone. And letting go of the flick stick turns gyro off.

@noble_lemon native gyro on this game only works with Dualshock4 and DualSense controllers. Unless your controller is recognized as an Playstation controller, you won't be able to use native gyro on PC :(

Funnily enough as a PC player, I've been finding the PS5 controller my favorite way to play. I love the feedback from firing weapons, and now there's gyro functionality--amazing! I tested the gyro while aiming this morning, and it really helped me with my precision shots. Aiming entirely with my thumb and right stick feels obsolete now. Great video! Thanks for sharing, you're the reason I got better at Helldivers 2 🙂

Splatoon player here. Gyro controls work in conjunction with the stick and are among the most accurate control schemes for controller gamers. I'm really glad this is slowly becoming normalized. Do it.

I am really happy gyro is getting more support in general, was hoping for more general support for steam input like in warframe or slime rancher but allowing mixed input is pretty good for anyone not using a playstation gamepad, also it looks like it works on proton so I'll def pick this up as soon as I can, also there's a setting for steam input that reminds me of that steadying transition duration that makes it feel like a trackball, so that's an interesting idea that just needs to be conveyed better... also a ratcheting button is needed, I can live without flickstick but after hours of flickstick in risk of rain 2 is gonna mess with me for a bit

Your guides are fantastic keep up the good work! I'm using your video to set up steam input for helldivers 2 because i really want the added benefit of button chording and action layers. Is there a way to retain/duplicate the default functionality of the track pad on a dual sense edge controller through steam input? Being able to open and ping the map with the track pad is just so good, but i havent been able to figure out how to make it work in steam input.

3:08 People are so obsessed with keeping the advantage of the game’s aim assist, that alone is usually their excuse for not touching gyro. The good news is AA and gyro work at the same time in Helldivers 2. Usually AA is disabled when using motion controls. I don’t use AA, but if some players refuse to use motion aim because of the loss of AA, by all means keep AA on and practice with the gyro too. Another game with AA that’s works with motion controls is Horizon Forbidden West, a single player game with a lot of body part shooting (aiming for specific parts of the enemy). Both of these games can serve as a very player-friendly transition to gyro

I want to use the motion controls so bad but you can't individually invert the y-axis on motion controls! it uses whatever you use for the sticks. I play inverted and playing with motion inverted doesn't work for me :[ I really hope they add the ability to invert the y-axis independently for motion and sticks

I had the same problem. A workaround is to remap "look up" and "look down" to their respective default opposites, and leaving the "inverted" options disabled.

Something i really wish for, was a way to convert the settings and feel of gyro aim in splstoon 3 to other games. In every game i configure gyro for, it never feels quite right, and it doesnt help theres a whole bunch of different settings in steam input. While i love gyro i feel cursed that ill neve rget it to feel quite as perfect for me as in splatoon 3...

Splatoon 3 has a lot of filters, causing a little bit of delay compared to other implementations. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just a little different. BUT, if you want to get close to the feeling of Splatoon 3, use World space gyro (or player space, if the game doesn't allow for world space) and figure out your preferred sensitivity, on this video I show examples of the natural sens scale, that's how you copy your sens to every game. Other than that, you can increase the gyro deadzone and the "precision speed". The key is to create just a tiny drag effect. Hope this helps!

I tried this and for aiming it feels very nice, however I find myself staying stationary more often when using gyro. Like somehow it's hard tilting the controller and using the left analog to move at the same time. Anyone else experienced this ?

Yep it did for me too, but a little practice and you'll get it. As a tip, I recommend that you start out by only alowing gyro when pressing aim and use the stick for quick turning. When you get the hang of it you can use it for all firing modes, set the sensitivity to high when hip firing and then low for aim firing.

Unfortunately, Helldivers2 doesn't give you the option to change gyro orientation. Arrowhead already watched this video, but I don't know if changes to the gyro implementation are coming. Player space orientation is the combination of World Space and Local Space. It works just like World Space, but it's a bit more precise. It also works better on portables, which make the best possible option for Helldivers2 because it allows for people to play on Playstation Portal using gyro.

Set the outer ring binding on the action layer to activate the gameplay action set, that way gyro will be enabled once you start walking again. And that's about it! Hope this helps!

Yeah, most native gyro games on PC only work with a Dualshock4 or DualSense. But I think you can use steam to make a config for other controllers. Probably someone did that already, so you will only need to import the configuration you want.

@@JonConleyI've managed to get motion controls to work with an 8bitdo Pro 2 and the Ultimate Wireless Controller! You need enable Steam Input for the game. There's going to be an option to enable gyro input. I have it set with the screenshot button as a 'toggle on/off' button for menus and stuff. However, gyro will only work if you have it set as a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Gyro is unfortunately disabled for Xinput and Dinput modes on 8bitdo controllers. I'm still working on tuning my acceleration and everything, but it's super comfortable for this game. Steam Input lets you use motion on those controllers for pretty much any game, too.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\your steam account numer\553850 emote" gyro_aim_sensitivity = [ 1.7799999713897705 0.5 ] Here, the value of 0.5 is the upper and lower gyro sensitivity value. By modifying the config script, you can change the up/down, left/right gyro sensitivity. According to the monitor 16 : 9 = x : 0.5 I think it would be good to adjust the top and bottom and rotation speed like this.

Modern gyro implementations fix this issue with a bit of smoothing. But as shown in the video, stability features in this game are broken for now. It's not the gyro's fault, it may be a little bit of your hands fault, but mostly, it's the game's fault.

@fghjcgjvfukgtdfjhgf I hold the controller exactly like I showed in the video. Many people may find it hard to put 2 fingers on the back of the controller. One for the triggers and one for the bumpers, but the most important thing to keep in mind is: loosely holding the controller will make every button press shake everything, so keep the controller firm in your hands. You need to disable Steam Input. Idk if that is possible on the steam deck. Unfortunately most games with native gyro only work with Playstation controllers. But you can always create a configuration using steam input to emulate a mouse, it will be a bit of a pain to set it up, but it's a good workaround that can lead to even better results than the native implementation.

If you want to witness the true prowess of gyroscopic controls, observe some PUBG Mobile players who have won world championships. I've been a PC player since childhood, but I later transitioned to mobile gaming, where I became enamored with gyro aiming. However, upon shifting to console gaming, I discovered that not all games support gyroscopic controls, which is quite disappointing. Gyro is more powerful and comfortable than mouse in my opinion.

@@massognagna while yes, it's faster to hit all the bumpers and triggers, no, you hold it loosely compared to normal. Middle fingers under the controller counter act the pressing of index and thumb better, just try pinching with thumb and middle finger and then thumb with ring finger. To play like you do you must rest your hands on your lap or table because your grip isn't stable enough. I use this grip for smash and fighting games, but for gyro it's just a bad idea

A good classic controller player won't be able to keep up with a good gyro player IF the implementation is good, and a good gyro player might be able to keep up with a m&k player
