From a christian point of view, it could also serve as a warning to true believers. Frollo calls himself pious, but he is a sinner. He is not unaware of what he is feeling or thinking. The entire song is him realizing what is happening in him, "reasoning" all the way, being able to stop if he was truly a saint, but no, at every turn, he blame others for his problems, even God himself. He even had the chance to leave it be when a guard tell him she is gone, surrounded by a very odd blue light in comparison with the reds and blacks of the rest of the song (last attempt from heaven to reach him, literally or just metaphorically?). But he refuses violently to even let the idea past. It may be lust what ignited him, but truly it is pride and rage what dooms him.

People are really here acting like this is an actual mass- this is probably a Disney themed concert that the church is hosting- or maybe this is a church that was converted into a place to hold concerts which isn’t too uncommon. Either way, I think that this is the perfect place to preform this song given its meaning and how people will often turn to their religion to excuse their atrocities.

The level and quality of the orchestra is nothing short of perfection, I can't get over it still. In addition, the vocal performances...just...wow. This is perfection 👍👍👍

This piece is truly a work of art. I only just notice the choir in the back singing "Kyrie Eleison" meaning God Have Mercy at about 3:00 which kind of show what the character is thinking. I especially love how you can hear the real Pipe Organ cutting through at the back and you can hear the way the pipes "sort of run out of air for a millisecond" and start out of tune and then quickly get in tune when played. Fantastic Video! Best Version!

I think the answer is more prosaic. Looking to book an auditorium in a city where there are 50 chapels, 20 churches and four commercial venues is, if only mathematically, likely to end up with a place of worship. Churches are very often used for secular concerts in the UK. This was actually a college chapel.

@@tyraelpl the fact is that both arranger/conductor and singer are very highly educated and qualified musicians. Simon is one of the most sought after orchestrators in London, Mark is an international opera singer whose university dissertation was on the music of Disney. They both knew to the nth degree what the song is about. Those who criticise it for being in a “church” are simply not sufficiently informed. This (entirely secular) concert was organised in a college public room which is used for a variety of purposes including religion but also concerts. This is very common in the UK, where the church is often the largest venue in a community. So these various criticisms are ill-informed and really just self serving “look at me, how clever I think I am” rather than engaging with what is actually clever and artistic, the arrangement and performance.
