From my understanding of the lore, the Neighbor basically locks his own son in the basement after the incident in which his son killed his daughter by accidentally pushing her off their roof while they were playing. This death happened immediately after the death of their mother due to a car crash. Weather this was a means of punishment or a way of protecting the son I don't recall. The lore does go much deeper than this but it's a good starting point here.

He may not be consumed with fear but that feeling of discomfort from being followed is a sign of non cognizant fear which means he isn't aware that, that feeling stems from fear... fear doesn't always have to feel intense.

So what I had gotten through the game was that the child is that of the neighbors. The cult uses children as sacrifices (Could be wrong) and he was only trying to hide his child (Theres very clear resemblinces in the face and also the tree house that is connected to his home, doesn't seem like a man with no kids would randomly have) Aswell as his daughtor who im guessing is going to be put into the game later on or already had something bad happen to him (Clear signs that they are his children from around his home, the clear photo of the three of them, the drawing with them all togeather, ect ect) His last hope was to lock away his child and act as if they were already taken before the cult takes them. But after you letting him free, and the father now crushed you in the end were the bad guy. (ps) I can't wait for more updates to come out! I really hope IGP will do a full play through again, or atleast update playthroughs when more and new stuff comes out. I always love watching him just always heartbroken when he doesn't do full playthroughs cause there is no other youtuber I know that plays the games he does.

I watch the videos just to listen to those shrieks of terror, the infamous "YOU SUCK" after managing to escape and the maniacal laughter every time he figures something out, but honestly the reviews of the games themselves are pretty informative. More than half the games in these videos are ones I've never heard of but I'm bound to at least check them out after watching IGP play through it. So according to the books, Theodore (the neighbor) is a man who likes to build things (see his previous houses and the amusement park) however there were some incidents in which people lost their lives on the rides and testing sites. This caused Theo to go into a depression so when his wife and daughter died, Theo starts to lock his only living family member away. Aaron is Theodore’s son and last remaining family member alive and Theo begins locking Aaron up in an attempt to protect him. When the police start to catch on (via Theo’s missing daughter poster and Aaron not making any public appearances like going to school and such) Theo abandons his home and hides Aaron in the museum, this is where we see them. Theo is willing to do *everything* and everything in his power to keep Aaron safe because he doesn’t want to lose anyone he loves ever again. Not sure what’s going on with the neighborhood though… I mean, apart from the cult stuff.

I don't think they're a cult. I think the PC is a paranoid weirdo, maybe schizophrenic, and he's been causing trouble, spying on them, etc. As a result, the town reacts poorly to him and they've all sort of bound together to repel him, which of course only made him think even more that something more was going on. Finally he tries to kidnap the kid, thinking he's saving him from these crazy people, when he's actually the crazy one. Finally at the end he almost kills someone, so they knock him out and presumably arrest him.

FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT STORY BACKGROUND: @TheSamUtari 1 day ago [ 8BitRyan Hello Neighbor part 1 video] for those who are confused as to what is happening here- you have to take into account the previous Hello Neighbor (all the Alpha and Beta build lore and the full game), Hide and Seek, and the Novels. (SPOILERS): The kid getting kidnapped at the beginning is Aaron (the Neighbor's son), if you remember in Hide and Seek, we see that the young boy Aaron, pushes his sister off of the roof, therefore ending her life. We also saw this in the nightmare sequences in the original game. Even "Hello Guest" with the theme park is all related to this plot point where Aaron accidentally kills his sister. But the Neighbor locked Aaron away thinking his son was a bad omen. The Neighbor blames his son for all the misfortune in his life (his failing theme parks and their disaster's, his wife's death, and then his daughter's death). But, not willing to lose the last bit of family he has, the Neighbor locks Aaron away. I theorize that adult Aaron becomes the crazy crow man we have seen in the Alpha builds. But guess we will just have to see. I also think this game will be in two parts like the original where the first part takes place AFTER Hide and Seek (which means it is a prequel to the first game) but that the 2nd part will take place in the future AFTER the events of the first game. :)
