Just last Sunday in church I was sitting next to a teenager, and she had her cell phone on her lap the whole service. Twice I caught a glimpse of her typing a message. I agree that babies should not be brought into church. My church allows it, and, of course, the babies start making noise during the service, usually during the sermon. So much for concentrating on the sermon! Unless they have changed, over ten years ago I went to Saddle Back Church, and they do not allow babies into the sanctuary. They have a separate room in the back for mothers--it is almost always mothers who do this--to take their baby and not disrupt the "sanctuary" of the service. (If you go to Saddle Back, do they still do this?) And lastly, one time a woman's phone rang during a service and she actually answered it and talked on it. Am I being sexist when I notice only women doing this? (When I get to church, I put my phone in my glove compartment so as not to even accidentally have it go off.)

As Todd says, these things destroy the reverence we should be showing God during church. I agree with him!

I visited my friend’s church and was shocked to see the woman in front of me wearing a tank top and shorts like she was going to run a marathon. I remember being told I was being judgmental when I told teenagers at my old church to get their feet off the pews. Why are you chewing gum, slumped down in your seat, giggling, with your tennis shoes on the pew in front of you? I remember doing that in movie theaters as a teenager and I want to go back and smack younger me. I visited a church last week with giggling teenaged boys wearing T-shirts and shorts in front of me and I was distracted and told myself not to be judgmental. If we treat it like a concert meant to entertain us instead of with respect, this is what happens.

The original temple was the grand potluck, people brought their cow, chicken or bread to be cooked. Biblically speaking praying is to be done at home behind closed doors not in the temple or on street corners.

@@HiThereHeyThere I believe you mean very unchurch life belief. Churches while have bibles for everyone in the pews, the views expressed in them are very rarely taught in church.

It wasnt a potluck. It was a place for sacrifice, all that pointed to Christ and our sin. And Scripture is clear, believers pray 247 regardless of where we are. God is always with us
