Grey, two years ago: “I would just stop when they stopped emailing me.” Grey, eight months ago: travels to New York and is yelling at a grave in the rain about how his story is a folk tale after attempting to go to the restricted materials section of the New York historical library and nearly breaking into the home/museum on Staten Island because he just wants to know how barrels helped a dude speed his way around Staten Island.

There are definitely "best friends", even as an adult. Those are the friends you view as a brother or sister, though not by genetics. Someone you would give your kidney to without a second thought. Someone you'd let stay at your house for an entire summer without needing a reason. I don't personally have a friend at the level, but I know of people who do, and perhaps Grey and his lack of social skills isn't someone who should be in charge of making these definitions.
@--and--6 жыл бұрын
I think what Grey -- and to a lesser extend Brady -- is so disturbed about by that gawker lawsuit but do not verbalize is that this is a typical case of a trade-off of rights: on one side there's gawker's right to free speech, on the other side there is Hogan's right to privacy. Although most people seem to agree that Hogan's right should have (and has) gotten precedence here, in general the transition between two party's rights is fuzzy and everyone places the line differently. Note that this statement applies to a much wider variety of subjects, some of which have been discussed on HI. A common example that needs to be answered by any society as a whole is when to go for private sector solutions and when state-run solutions ought to be implemented.

Back in the days before everyone had phones in their pocket, with the ability to call or text anyone at any time, this is exactly what happened when you got separated from your group. You just had to hope that the venue would have a meeting point, or go to the most likely place the rest of your group would be at.

Talking about the "I like this person but I don't know how to become friends" thing. After thinking about it I think you should totally call him, if he says "no", you know he's a sour person and what's even the reason to become friends with him. But if he says "yes", you've probably made someone very happy because he knows you like him and feels validated (that's how I and probably most of us would feel in such a situation) and you will have a new friend after spending a bit more time with him.

Just a note about the sponsor (Away suitcases) Most US airlines now don't allow bags that have non-removable batteries. If you get these, or others with removable batteries get ready for some confused airline staff who don't know their own rules. There's a restorant that gave people 50% off or something if they never took out their phone. I wish this sort of thing was more common. The talk about men making friends I feel is a major problem for mental health with people who need to socalize. @ProfessorEGadd6 жыл бұрын
If you come together do do a specific activity then the time isn't unstructured.
@profwaldone6 жыл бұрын
ProfessorEGadd its a structured period of unstructured time. Like a lunchbreak from life
@ProfessorEGadd6 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong I love some DnD, but its still structured time. If you have any plans for your free time it becomes structured, which can be great for all sorts of things like productivity and mental health. You can plan to have unstructured time as long as you don't know what you're going to do with it. For example, you could schedule 30 mins of unstructured time every day before bed. In this time you might make preparations for the morning or clean or something, but you don't know what you're going to spend time on before you do it. This makes unstructured _social_ time quite rare, because you have to get several people together to do nothing. It's stuff like having a beer with friends, chatting to housemates after supper or just 'hanging out'. It's usually spontaneous, so if the rhythm of your life does't have room for that kind of spontaneity (as seems to be very common) then you won't be having much unstructured social time.

Didn't read the book but watched the documentary version on Netflix. I think that I'm with both Brady & Grey in that I'm typically on the furthering of free speech side but in this particular instance it's hard to defend Gawker. I think something that really rubbed me wrong with Gawker in the documentary was not just the kind of news that they do but the interview with people from Gawker and the way they talked about their org. They seemed to be unwilling to or unable to perceive that they possibly did anything wrong or questionable. It wasn't just that they were some trashy magazine that published gossip, no! They were truth tellers! Speaking truth to power! And ANY attack on them is purely bc rich celebrities have VENDETTAS against the truth and NO OTHER REASON. Again, I recognize that if you treat Gawker harshly you run the risk of setting a precedent and also the possibility of any rich jerk who doesn't like what is said about them potentially bankrupting a different news team but Gawkers framing of themselves as the innocent victims in the scenario who were ruthlessly attacked bc some thin skinned billionaire couldn't handle the truth really rubbed me the wrong way.
