On the topic of roughhousing with the dog and amping up the dog, i feel like with some dogs its completely fine to roughhouse and play tug of war and get them riled up. I feel as though you should ask the owner first before doing that. For my dog, he loves roughhousing, but still becomes a total sweetheart around people afterwards.

When I first started listening to Hello Internet, I had never heard of Brady Haran and had only watched one video that I only later found out was by him, "British Numbers Confuse Americans", which I had watched partially because CGP Grey was in it, but mostly out of outrage at the name, and I thought he was vaguely British, and possibly Indian or Iranian, from the last name. Until, in one of the early episodes, Brady talked about cricket for the first time. I instantly realised, this guy is totally Australian. Somehow, talking about cricket really brought out the Aussie in his voice.

52:28 When I first started watching numberphile and listening to the podcast, I thought Brady was English (especially because lots of the people he talks to are), but now that they've pointed it out I'm noticing certain parts of his accent that are more Australian than British, but I think mostly his voice doesn't have the intensity that a lot of Australian people have where it's sometimes hard to even tell what they're saying even though they're speaking the same language. I think a similar thing happened with David Tenant's accent, because he's Scottish and has parts of the Scottish accent, but has incorporated parts of the English accent enough that he doesn't immediately sound Scottish to me.

As a young person I got my first phone a year ago and I still don’t use social media ( by choice) and all I use is KZbin. I prefer to meet people in real life , but I still am shy around new people, I find myself as an introvert but I think social media is bad for your personality. It’s just an opinion and it’s just the way I work, but even though i don’t socialize through social media I don’t feel like an outcast in school because in school people have to socialize in person which I am better at.

So...I grew up when Facebook was a big deal. Hell, when I joined the Navy, it was mandatory to add the U.S. Navy as a friend on my Facebook while I was in the delayed entry program. Which was a problem, since I did not have one. I see no problem in serious limits on a kid's internet access, apps, and the tech they have access to. It seems like the argument of 'you have to let them because other parents let their kids' (an argument my Dad always laughed at) has taken over...but who cares? You really want your kid becoming friends with people who only like them for being the same? Also, I don't care where you live, there are plenty, plenty of people who can't afford to get their kids iPads and laptops and smartphones. Are we teaching kids it's okay to ostracize other kids for being poor? For having strict parents? Forget that. I'd rather my kid have *no* social skills than ones that are bad and harmful.

Bloody Marys supposedly taste better on airplanes (while everything else tastes worse) due to the reduced pressure in the cabin and dry air, which both dulls our taste buds. Supposedly the engine noise makes everything less sweet as well. If you want to know more, I encourage a cheeky little Google search.

(Ignore this if you have pets, it won't make you happy) What I dislike about the concept of pets, is that humans tend have a completely twisted perception of their relationship to their own pet. A pet gives you the positive feeling of caring for some"one", a quirk of our psychology evolved to make us care for infants. Pets are a tool to exploit this part of our brain to give our consciousness excessive positive feedback for relatively insignificant tasks. A pet is there to serve an imagined loving relationship. The issue with all this is that we don't really care about the animal behind the pet. We don't really care whether we really provide a good live to the animal. We just do what is necessary for the pet to provide us with the feelings we desire. Absolute prime example for this are dogs. We have bred dogs to optimize for exactly that use, with disregard to all the issues this entails for the animal itself (If you want to just love your dog, don't look into this). And I understand that people don't care about animals, that's not the point. It's how sincere we believe in the lie we tell ourselves.

Hitler didn't want the Russians to capture and torture Blondi or put her on the display, at least according to Albert Speir. Also a nurse that was present at the time in the bunker said in 2005 that everyone was more upset at Blondi's death than at Hitler or Eva Braun's. Also I don't see how anyone could not immediately recognize Brady as Australian.

The stereotypical Australian accent is just Crocodile Hunter level to the rest of the world. English has strong representation of upper and lower class to the rest of the world, along with being muddied by Scottish or Irish accents, it's easier to mistake the general UK as the Origin if there are enough British inflictions, and the Australian sounds aren't as attached to the stereotypical heavy Hugh Jackman drawl.
@bananatreelabs11374 жыл бұрын
I find the accent topic very interesting. I’ve been in America all my life yet people still occasionally will ask if I’m British. People disagree on whether or not I sound British, and I find it really odd. The idea that people just hear something different and mark it as foreign is definitely true. I have a habit of very precisely enunciating my words, and no dialect of English does that. One example is “water.” I pronounce the t, Americans pronounce the t as a d, and British people sometimes kind of skip over the t.
