Ok, I've watched a ton of videos on the 2023 Kia EV6 and have decided to add my two cents on the subject. Back in August 2023 I purchased a EV6 Wind AWD with the tech package and paid a little more for it in the black! I drive 90 miles round trip from my home in north Idaho to work Monday thru Friday, my reason for going electric was fuel costs, for 4yrs I drove a Ford Ecoboost and every Friday it cost me $130 to fill my 35gal tank! Do a little math and yes it was expensive. It's been four months now and I have 12000 miles on it and it's been amazing!! This car is everything that was told to me by the dealer and my research, it's comfortable, the heating and cooling is great, I average a little over 3.5kwh while on the road and in eco mode. I have a home charger and I have the charger turn on at off peak hours which is .8kwh and peak is .10kwh, my monthly charge rate is averaging $61!! This car does great in the snow, slush and wet roads, it's very easy to drive and figure out all the cool gadgets that this car has, I highly recommend this car!! You won't be disappointed, but you have to do your homework on ev cars, research, research.

@@scottclark1016 There’s no efficiency advantage using ECO mode over Normal unless you are okay letting it turn off climate. Otherwise Normal is the same except acceleration is at your command. In non highway driving Auto Regen and Normal mode is most efficient.

13:45 I LOVE this monthly expense breakdown, first time I've seen this on ANY car reviews. 👏 Car prices have gotten so high that's it's refreshing to see it broken down into loan breakdowns like this, something I bet a lot of buyers don't do until they're under the gun signing papers at a dealership! I love how your channel is becoming a voice of responsibility and reason for new car buyers.

Me too...having never owned an expensive and especially financed car (last car I owned personally was a very used 2007 Honda CIvic Coupe, and my parents rarely bought new or financed their cars either)...it was eye-popping to realize that most people are paying $80,000-$100,000 in total for what has become fairly average, mid-priced brand new cars. I don't even want to think about how expensive Escalades, Denalis, Raptors, and german luxury models can get with financing 😲😵‍💫

I bought my EV6 after watching one drive next to me. In videos, it looked ordinary and small. In real life, it has muscles and was a lot bigger than expected. I got the GT line AWD version. The car drives super nice, is super fast off the line. Sporty, smooth, great sound system. Its the best car by far that I ever owned. I've had nothing but luxury brand cars. You could slap a premium brand badge on this car no problem. You can see and feel the quality. The only real downside is the badge it wears "Kia". But, they seem to be working hard to make better cars these days. I owned a Kia a long time ago, it was a total POS (Spectra 5). At that time, I told myself to never again buy a Kia. My opinion is that the EV6 is worth every penny. This car is less about luxury and is more about sportiness.

I just bought one, the 2023 Limited, new. It is the most featured-packed car I’ve ever had-although my 2015 Avalon is a very nice car, with some of the same features. I love the sporty, aerodynamic look of the EV6. So many accessories are included, things you usually have to purchase separately.

I spent the summer renting a bunch of different gas and ev cars, and I did like the EV6 a lot. Personally, the climate thing was a non-issue (I set it to auto, and never touched the climate again). It's definitely bigger than I'd want, but the interior is nice and as great as the Ioniq 5 looks I'd probably pick the Kia between the two. I can't speak to the quality of the emergency braking but the other stuff you mentioned in the safety section is right - the Korean brands have the best highway assists right now. It's a great car, but ultimately way more than I need (I loved the Polestar 2, though!)

Yes it's big, but I'm 5'7" and it's very comfortable. The best thing is I can sleep in the back wiht the seats down. It's very roomy and set up for using the electricity while the car is turned off. and the Vehicle to Load battery access means I can plug in the coffee make in the morning.

The main reason manufacturers put everything into a touchscreen interface is cost savings. I’d rather they spend $5-10 and give me the knobs and buttons for frequently-used controls.

Having had my EV6 GT line S for 18 months I've never found the view from the rear window to be a problem. However, living in the UK with its lower temperatures, I've found it difficult to achieve more than 270 miles range, and in the winter that goes down to 240. Maybe it's my driving style but even trying hard to keep my right foot under control I still can't get more than 3.2 miles per kWh with mixed traffic driving.

Here’s a controversial opinion: I actually prefer it when an EV range is shorter. It encourages us to have more dense, walkable, and transit-oriented neighborhoods. We need more EV charging stations across the country, and then a cross country road trip in an EV might not sound as intimidating. Don’t get me wrong, long-range EV’s like this one are a good thing, but the shorter-range ones still serve a purpose. I still think hybrids, especially PHEV’s will become more mainstream, but EV’s do serve a purpose. Also, I agree that it has too much power.

Pretty radical design, I think my choice would be the Hyundai, even I currently have a Kia :D Both ev's are pretty big for me though, the 2016 Kia Rio Hatchback I have, is perfectly fine for my needs, and this car still has pretty traditional dashboard, no touch screens, etc. and I do like the design in this UB -generation Rio. Rented one on Turo for a road trip, and it was a joy to drive... Can't justify the price with my low annual mileage and extremely reliable Rav4 though. I think the "not-a-real-SUV" form factor is right for the times, though (even though I would have preferred the more boxy hauling capacity of the Hyundai variant). I love my EV6. I don’t mind the heating/media switch over. Once you’re used to it I don’t have to take my eyes off the road. My only two gripes is that here in the UK where it never stops raining this time of the year, is that you can’t see the cameras when indicating or moving over. All you get is a mass of water and it’s hard to even see in the mirrors. Biggest issue is that I’ve only had my car for 6 weeks, not even done a 1,000 miles and it’s devalued £20,000 in that time. Thanks to our useless government moving the switch to EVs from 2030 to 2035. Thanks Rishi Sunak 🤬

As an ev6 owner coming up on 1 year next month I'd like to criticize this review about the "shortcomings" he found... Let's start with the climate controls...he says they can be cumbersome to use but doesn't mention that you can control the radio with the steering wheel controls and leave the climate controls just as they are and not have to touch them again...also, as another option, if you hold down the switching button for 3 seconds you can choose what default you would prefer, radio or climate, so that when you use one after a few seconds, it defaults back to the other... As for the sun visor hitting your face...really? Out of all the reviews I've seen not a single one listed this as a complaint...anyhow, you said it yourself, you're over 6 feet tall...this isn't a problem at all if you simply adjust your seat back half an inch or so. But you act like this would be a common problem for everybody.🤔 On to the regen braking...you say you use level 3 but i-pedal is the max...well, yes and no...i also use level 3 and use the paddle to reach the max to come to a complete stop... basically like you would an actual break peddle but on the steering wheel instead... Safety features, you complain about the low visibility out of the back as if you're looking through a slit of some kind... it's plenty wide for most people and realistically speaking, how far in reverse do you plan to drive anyway?... if you're that scared of backing up kia did provide a backup cam with a wide angle view, also you should have mentioned that if you do get too close to an object the car will activate the brakes for you before you actually hit something. (This can be turned off in the settings but why would you want to?).... Driving in different modes...you only mention the sport mode but didn't mention that it also affects the range...driving in eco mode gives you the most, while driving in sport gives you the least...the difference is about 10 miles.... Charging...you mention the vehicle to load option to power other things but didn't mention the ac plug in the back seat that does the same thing...in fact, you didn't mention any of the various usb plugs located in the cabin as well as the wireless charging pad and having android auto/carplay or the HUD... Pricing.... You mention the prices but you forgot to mention that it's now eligible for the $7500 tax credit on leases straight from the dealership...you should have pointed that out. Financing...i've never seen a breakdown of financing this way..."good credit buyers vs bad credit buyers" 😄 seriously?... I don't know too many people with good credit that would buy a car with $0 down...the average is $2k down, and a trade in. If you don't have a trade in then put $5k down... I won't even get into the "bad credit buyers", I'll just say that bad credit buyers should be looking at a used 2010 prius than a brand new kia... As for $100k for 72 months?...i doubt anybody is looking to hang on to an ev for 72 months considering the average warranty on an ev battery is 8 yrs (kia gives you 10)....i have yet to meet anybody spending $100k to buy a $50k car..... Lastly, charging infrastructure...i don't have a charger at home and I'm going on a year owning my ev6...i charge about once a month to 100% at various places cause they have chargers just about everywhere i go, from coffee shops, supermarkets, malls, movie theaters, even gyms...and it's only going to get better as the years go on... In the end, this guy's review wasn't much of a review as it's more of a 1st impression drive...there are far better reviews out there folks, do not take his advice.

I like that you showed the charging options, most reviewers skip it. Leaving us to search for owner videos to see what is involved to charge these things at home. This is a HUGE part of owning an EV. That said, I'll keep my 2022 Kia Stinger and have no plans for an EV any time soon. Side note: you people (reviewers of EVs) need to stop this misinformation on EVs reduced emissions. If you don't factor in BUILDING and DISPOSING of the vehicle as well then it is just a lie. There's more to cars than just driving them.
@HelloRoad

Which Stinger do you have? I love those! Yeah many people are probably better off with hybrids or plug-in hybrids as charging infrastructure is still extremely spotty in the US. And yes there is certainly a lot of misinformation regarding EVs. I don't have an agenda when it comes to EVs versus ICE. However studies by reputable sources (Union of Concerned Scientists, MIT) show that EVs have lower life cycle emissions when compared to ICE-and this includes manufacturing and disposal.

@@HelloRoad I have the GT Line, 4 cyl AWD version so it is a bit better on gas than the GT models. Good to hear that studies are being done from a beginning to end life cycle on EVs. Almost everyone just talks about gas savings after purchase, which is only part of the equation.

With respect to acceleration... yes, we are absolutely making ALL cars too fast. Hyper cars and sports cars? Yes, they're supposed to be fast, go nuts there. But family haulers have zero need to get to 60 in sub 5 seconds. I'd be perfectly happy if my EV had 25% less power, because it would STILL be faster than every non-sports car I've owned over the last 30 years, and hopefully the reduced weight and power draw of a smaller motor would lead to better efficiency and longer range.
@allenlecorre
@allenlecorre Жыл бұрын
it's not really the weight of the motor though, its the weight of the batteries that is the issue. want more range, need larger heavier battery. What would be nice is a very aerodynamic small EV that doesn't need a big battery to get the range. I think fast acceleration is just inherent to all EV's no matter the size though.
@geoffreyreuther5260
@geoffreyreuther5260 11 ай бұрын
@@allenlecorre If one were to utilize a motor that consumed 10% less electricity, then you would get 10% more range from the same exact battery pack. That's what I'm getting at. Now, I know that a 10% reduction in consumption doesn't lead to a direct 10% increase in range, but my EV has a motor that's 201HP and 291 lb-ft torque. It could EASILY lose 20% of that and still have pretty damn good straight line performance. I'm sure it could have been packaged with a smaller motor that would have a 260+ mile range instead of 240 miles, while retaining the exact same battery. Or they could have also downsized the battery to retain a 240 mile range, making the whole thing lighter and cheaper. Plus, reducing weight helps ALL cars be more efficient, regardless of drivetrain. Over the course of a charge, that alone could be worth 2-3 miles. My overall point: EVs don't need to be nearly as powerful as they are, and I think there's a way to make them more well rounded by being more judicious about power.

If I had to buy an electric Kia, I'd probably go with the Niro instead solely because of its looks. The EV6 just looks a bit plain and generic future car-ish.

The problem with the Niro is the charging speed if you do any roadtrips. The charging speed of the EV6 is where it shines.

Aesthetics are, of course, personal... but this one I don't get at all: the Niro looks like half the cars on the road (I know, I've been driving one for two years...) but the Ev6 has an amazing Citroen DX vibe going on that is completely unique these days. I'm getting a new lease and had completely decided on another Niro (it has been a great car) but after seeing them side by side.... An Ev 6 it is.

Easily solved with a Carlin T-box or wireless CarPlay adapter. I have the T-box and it works great. Even still, I prefer corded for the most part as the phone gets very hot on the wireless charger.

Charging is super fast! Visibility is not great and climate control UX is weird for no good reason.

After living with an EV6 for over 36k miles, the UX is no issue as 99% of the time I am using CarPlay. Charging is where this vehicle shines on longer trips. Super fast charging means your trips are comparable to being in an ICE vehicle. Taking 800+ mile trips, my overall time is the same due to food and restroom stops. Just end up charging during those stops and it is not adding to the time. Plug in and walk away. You have about 15-20 minutes to do what you have to do.

Lord, I would just buy a well taken care of GM mid size with a 3800 engine instead of paying that.

5.22….tilt your head for god sake. If that fails due to your extra long chin, try bending ‘right’ slightly at the waist. Those two things done together will solve that sunvisor issue.

you started off good and ended up like a repulican. all ev 6s cant beat the tesla y performance on the GT version which is over $60.000 and has only a 220 milie range plus you dont get the $7500 rebate .....so why buy a $60.000 KIA with a 220 mile range when you could get a TESLA Y ? only a mega republican would .....dont matter how you mix it up its still a KIA ....

Oh wow, thanks Kia. Just what I needed - another overpriced oversized crossover. 🙄 I'm sick of the automotive industry only focusing on crossovers and trucks for EVs. They like to lie and say that's where the demand is, but that's all they produce even though there's plenty of demand for smaller sedans and hatchbacks. Maybe they can't hold as large a battery, but being smaller and lighter, a smaller battery will still go farther due to needing less energy to move the car. And I don't care if it doesn't get 300 miles of range on a charge like this behemoth, I don't need 300 miles of range before charging. But no, these companies won't do it, because they can charge more for these bloated pieces of crap. Crossovers and trucks are expected to be expensive, but sedans and hatchbacks are expected to be reasonably priced and auto makers don't want reasonably priced for us because that means less profit for them. Also that climate control setup is still terrible. Touch interfaces have no clearly defined buttons, you cannot figure out what you're tapping without looking at it. And touch screens are unreliable, I'm constantly having to tap multiple times to get my cell phone to do things, I don't want that for the climate control in my car. And I swear the reason visibility is so terrible out the back of new cars is because they're trying to mitigate the damage they did with the super bright white LED headlights they started putting on cars. I have a 2015 car with good rear visibility and having any new car behind me at night sucks. I'm seriously thinking of finding some kind of screen or just putting paper over my rear window so these f***ers stop blinding me. But point is - tiny rear window means headlights shine on the back of the car instead of through the rear window. Maybe they should just fix their awful LED headlight designs instead. I can honestly say I'd prefer the old school regulation on headlights, where all auto manufactures have to use the same rectangular or oval headlights. If they can't regulate themselves, it's time for the government to step in again.

Appreciate your info at the end of the video comparing EV’s to ICE concerning carbon footprint! There is so much mis-information in that regard and I’m sure some of it is put out by the oil and gas industry to discourage EV adoption. We have the 2022 Kia EV6 GT-line owning it now for a little over a year and love it! It’s really exciting seeing new tech and advancements in battery technology and charging, moving away from the 100 years plus of oil and gas, time to move on!
