Part One focusing around the cut Revolutionary-themed Cenobites (which would've been really fun, unique, and entertaining) and the 1st Lemarchand. Part Two would've focused on Present Day, with what we got...following up on Angelique (pretty underappreciated) as the antagonist. And finally, the future Space for Part Three. Too bad Dimension Films didn't greenlit the idea and just forced the director to push it all into one movie runtime.

Yes they used a different actor for the voice because the one in make up couldn't do a voice, failing to understand they would let Doug Bradley do the lines and just changed/manipulated his voice in production...which is why he sounds so otherworldly. Its just another reason this film feels so lazy

​@@dong.corleone2 was definitely a letdown, but I thought Inferno and Hellseeker were okayish, and definitely enjouyed the 2022 one. 3 had some neat kills, but there's more to Hellraiser than the kills. That and making Pinhead a Freddy-like villain just doesn't work for the franchise. He's not good or evil, he's supposed to be like more of a force of nature. But, they made what they thought would sell, which is basically your typical slasher, and turned Pinhead into a maleavolent monster. No offense to fans of 3, but it has more in common with bog standard horror slashers than it does Hellraiser as a concept. I say this as someone who LIKES bog standard slashers, such as NMOES, this is not why I watch Hellraiser films. If I wanted that I'd rewatch the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, amongst other films.

What makes the issue of Pinhead's voice even worse is the fact that it was actually another actor dubbed in. So they were already doing digital work on it to lay the voice over the footage and still didn't bother with any effects.

I 100% agree with you. I'm gonna be honest, the very 1st time I watched it...I kinda liked-ish it🤷‍♂️ But I definitely agree, it is not a good movie by a looong shot. But out of all this seemingly neverending marasme of unspired insipid sequels (starting after bloodline of course) this one at least feels like a somewhat properish Hellraiser, with a rather haunting ending. Great review, Cody. This was much in tone with what Hellraiser is supposed to be obviously since it was not a spec script forcefully turned into a sequel and for that it was more enjoyable than parts 7 and 8. The only thing other thing I would point out is that this is really a remake/reboot, not a sequel.

One thing I can appreciate about this one’s ow it goes back to formula concept with someone being taken by pinhead, comes back and needs people to grow back to a “normal” person. I also like the twist of the blonde’s son actually being the friend wearing the son’s skin and the gore like he said. But that’s about it. I really didn’t like how the dad shot the guy before pinhead took him. It felt really dumb and made me say “who the hell would do that? Pinhead was going to solve your problem and you had to get involved.” I didn’t like the mini-me pinhead. To me it makes no sense that they made another pinhead cenobite, and how it seemed like pinhead made mini-me himself with pinhead putting pins in his head. Also I’m pretty sure all the cenobites except mini-me has been in past films. It felt like a Lifetime remake of Hellraiser.

I REALLY didn't like this one when I first saw it. And I'm not saying I like it now. But when you think about all the other Hellraiser sequels, this one is at least a Hellraiser movie. Not another movie that was re-worked to fit in a puzzle box. And I think the idea of the plot is good. But the acting is so, so bad and the poor guy who was cast as Pinhead just isn't working. Even if they can't get Doug Bradley, find someone at least who looks imposing and like you said, make some effort into the voice effects. I think with a better budget, that would lead to better actors, and some stronger writing, this one could be good.

I think the idea of a mini Pinhead or a Pseudo Pinhead I think his name is, was that the actual Pinhead is training him as an apprentice and attaching the skins of their Victims to his face piece by piece. I think the comics explored that there are several reincarnations of Pinhead, the Elliot Spencer version is the current one we know, where people who become Cenobites don the Pinhead Cenobite style of that era and It's like a Jedi teaching the Jedi way to a padawan, in this case it's how to wield chains instead of a lightsaber and the identity is passed down. Or hey maybe Leviathan got lazy. Had to make a Cenobite and didn't have much to work with So copied what wasn't broke.

This may be the only Hellraiser sequel where I agree with you. (Okay, perhaps we weren't that far off on Deader.) This movie doesn't feature Pinhead murdering a club full of partygoers. This film doesn't feature Pinhead in space. This film doesn't promise the return of Kirsty and then give her even less screen time than Pinhead. This film doesn't include Pinhead chopping off a guy's head with a cleaver. For all of its "amateur hour" aspects, it's conceptually one of the least-embarrassing sequels.

This movie was directed by Victor Garcia, who before this did Return to House on Haunted Hill and Mirrors 2, so I think his filmography speaks volumes as to his lack of talent (although he did work with Guillermo del Toro a few times as an effects artist).

That’s a pretty good review cody by the way that’s awesome that you mentioned my comment from the hellraiser 3 review because yes I am one of those people that really hate this movie this is one of if not my least favourite horror movie of all time and it’s one of my least favourite movies of all time the only thing that’s fine about this movie is the story works for a hellraiser movie but that’s it. Only made just to keep the right, I know whats new. The 1 positive I have is that the Lament Configuration effects look great. Alot better than every other box effects. The gore is great too.
