The play/antagonism between Pinhean and Angelique. She wants to go for the beauty and seduction while Pinhead for disturbing/horror. How Pinhead created the twin Cenobite because the brothers were scared of dyoing. When he is stitting on the "throne". When he says his empty. ....so many amazing scenes. And also, how this is the last one that actually connects to what happened prior.

This film was directed by Kevin Yeagher, the prop guy who designed the classic Chucky puppet and Cryptkeeper puppet from the Tales from the Crypt tv show. (He’s also married to Catherine Hicks, the mom from 7th Heaven, who played Andy’s mom in the first Child’s Play) But because of how much he clashed with the studio, (to the point they began editing the film behind his back), he gave it the Alan Smithee treatment (Alan Smithee being the pseudonym filmmakers use for movies they’re no longer willing to be associated with).

The biggest red flag for this movie is the director credit to Alan Smithee, a Hollywood moniker given to films that have been disowned by their director. Having said that, I like this movie alright. Like you, this was the only Hellraiser movie that I saw in theaters. I think it's a pretty ambitious film and some of it works and some of it doesn't. The space/future segments are about as cliche as it gets. It's not my favorite Hellraiser film, but it's not my least favorite either.

Yeah he really didn't get along with the studio execs at all when they took over and butchered his movie. It probably would have been better received and we may have had at least a couple more good sequels rather than the rest going straight to video.

Its hard to trust someone who only ever had 10 minute long movie reviews. It feels like the reviews are made just to fill a video quota and that's it, even if thats not true. Amazing you put out two reviews in one day, I just hope that your movie reviews will start to get a little longer. You have more time to record and edit, and I'm sure that theres atleast a handful a movies that should be able to hit more than 12 minutes for an average review. @justicierodelaliga3 жыл бұрын
Bloodline is my favorite. Precisely because it tells the story of the maker of the Lament Configuration through generations. The concept in space, yes, it´s weak and usually when a horror franchise is at its worst but that´s not the case for Bloodline. It is meant to be the book ends of the story and is the least amount of time it takes. More so, they didn´t try to do something like what they did in Jason X as far as trying to change Pinhead into something else or use the future element to infuse the story to the point of damaging it. For instantce, the weapons used by the soldiers are basically rifles. So there´s that. As for more positive elements, I can´t believe Cody didn´t mention how great Pinhead was and, more so, that Angelique is AMAZING. It´s obvious that Cody just doesn´t care for the escence of Hellraiser. What´s amazing about it is that we´re dealing with demons here. And not just plain demons but ones that are brilliant (in Pinhead), a disturbing appearance and the fact that while they want to kill you (usually in the most painful way) it doesn´t end there. They are going for your soul. And it is in Hell were they will continue your suffering. If these horror icons were real Pinhead and the Cenobites would be the ones I want to avoid the most. Yes, with the other killers you´ll die in a brutal way but that´s it. Again, the Cenobites will go for a painful death that will continue for eternity in Hell. If that´s not scary I don´t know what is. PS1 While, sadly not used as should, Pinhead will summon hooked chains from wherever. That´s so much hard to avoid that whatever the other killers can do. PS2 Freddy Krueger will kill you in you sleep and your soul will belong to him. Yes. But your soul won´t be tortured. Just trapped. And, as shown, whenever he gets defeated the souls are released. That doesn´t happen with Pinhead and the Cenobites.

Why do people call Hellraiser a slasher? Isn't it more just a splatter movie? I mean Pinhead isn't exactly like Freddy, Jason and Michael. More like Pennywise and IT definitely is not a slasher.
@justicierodelaliga3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Hell on Earth was to be fair. But other than that no. And that´s why, I´m guessing, Cody isn´t liking them as he´s approaching them as slasher movies. And yes, Pinhead is a horror icon but that doesn´t mean he´s one because he´s a regular killer.

I used to hate them- and for good reason when you learned they were discarded scripts reworked as Hellraiser movies- but if you let yourself go and after repeat viewings you learn to like them for what they are. And, I´m guessing, Cody will despise them becuase Pinhead and the Cenobites are barely on them and they are weak "slasher" movies. However, that´s it. The world of Hellraiser is not to be slashers but explorations of the sinful souls. Also, yes, Pinhead and the Cenobites should appear more not barely any minutes, they still don´t need to be there constantly. If anything, to me, a little more of screen time and the way Inferno was handled is how the reast should have as well.

Well. I completely agree with fact that this should have been a complete period piece. They tried to incorporate too many ideas and failed dramatically. Had they kept it in that original piece they could have gone for a complete new angle. Admittedly I like Hellraiser v though, even if it is very clearly a script they took and added a few rewrites (eg. 10 minutes of cenobite-like creatures and Pinhead). It kinda works as a nice mystery, horror movie, dark and moody and Pinhead being some sort of lynch pin to keep it tied to the series.

The idea for this movie is better than the movie itself. The idea to make a movie that chronicles the creation of the Box and the ending of the Box is a great idea but this movie struggles to meld that with still making a Pinhead movie. This script was rewritten like 5o times during production because they had to keep forcing Pinhead into the story sooner and sooner and you can feel it watching it. The obvious real main villain character was meant to be the Female Demon who comes off as the more interesting character to me over Pinhead or just as interesting.

I had the same impression, that they could have spent way more time with Lemarchand in the 18th/19th century. The character of Angelique was unique and interesting, Valentina Vargas was stunning in the role, but got unfortunately wasted in the 3rd act, which was a frickin' shame. Considering how troubled the production of this film was, it's completely surprising how well the end-product turned out. In my humble opinion some aspects of it and the visual execution are even better than the original Hellraiser. Pinhead has very good and heavy dialogue-sequences, Doug Bradley can shine a bit more as an actor in this one, which is a treat. His costume-design, how it's lit and framed is crisp and satisfying. I didn't even mind the sometimes hammy CGI-effects, the outer ship- and space-designs were not bad. The main actor is not Anthony Hopkins or even Doug Bradley of course, but does a serviceable job, the actors in the space-sequence, especially during the showdown are quite bad and it is too short and anti-climactic. But Pinhead's monologue there is interesting too, so it balances out the film a little bit. And the twin-cenobites were quite freaky in some scenes, especially when they are circling the poor space-soldier, before executing him in a painful way. 😃Overall it's an enjoyable movie and much better than the ones following it.

This is possibly my favorite entry in the series if not Hellraiser 3 Hell On Earth so its a tie spot. What makes this movie so amazing is the lore building where as 3 went into Pinhead’s origins, this movie goes into the origins of the dreaded Lament Box unintentionally initiated by a 18th Century Toymaker whom you can say is the gullible character that caused what we love that is Hellraiser and the cursing of his bloodline hence the name by doing a bidding for these depraved, sleazy, libertine aristocrats whom seem symbolic and metaphorical for what will be unleashed. I love Angelique as a character and new Cenobites one of the iconic ones along with the OGs from the first 2 movies and how also I like she doesn’t see eye to eye with Pinhead on many occasions only thing is they have the same goal in being free from the box’s confines to reign the Universe as they please she is also a great Femme Fatale if I could name one when she is somewhat human to say the least. Also the 2 brother cops and that Dog Cenobite are real kool additions too, I do like the main protagonist who is the latest Descendant of the current time I enjoy him narrating of his 2 ancestors and trying to convince those Space Marines or whatever of his goal to stop Hell itself. Pinhead has some of his most iconic lines and best moments in this movie as well along with the first 3 movies. This movie could’ve actually bought the series in full circle and ended here with great closure but alas from here the series went downhill good luck sitting through Inferno or Hellseeker lol awful movies.
@justicierodelaliga3 жыл бұрын
With the expcetion of Hellworld, and not counting Revelations and Judgement for obvious reasons and despite the fact that 5 thorugh 7 were reworked movies they work. They needed more Pinhead and Cenobites (not too much) but that´s it. Hellraiser is not a slasher franchise. It´s an exploration of Clive Barker´s disturbing imagination. Basically you have to appreciate the stories the same way you do the Silen Hill games. That atmosphere, story and monster designs. If that´s not your thing then you´re not going to like it.
@corpsedesecrator26123 жыл бұрын
I respect you opinion and acknowledge those movies were basically different takes on the series. Well I will say that out of all of the post Bloodline movies I actually did like Deader notice I didn’t bash it, the idea of a cult that revives the dead is really kool and I think they needed the Lament Box to be more efficient in this if I remember correctly and I remember Pinhead abhorred them so for what it was Deader was a movie I do go back to and I like the Atmosphere and setting. However Inferno was just straight up boring for me I do respect they tried something new but it wasn’t for me and funny thing is that it was the first Hellraiser movie I watched rented at Hollywood Video and thankfully I didn’t give up on the series and watched the OG and Bloodline witch got me invested in the series. As for Hellseeker that is a sequel I actually despised where as Inferno was boring this movie was an insult for me I hated this movie primarily cause it degrades Kirsty Cotten as a character after all she had been through the first 2 movies she is naive enough to fall into the arms of a manipulative, scumbag person whom is like the main character, thankfully he does die towards the end as an offer to Pinhead but even then it shouldn’t have taken the whole movie. Overall I like Deader, think Inferno is boring with what it was trying to do, and hate Hellseeker it seems we agree everything after was trash. Anyways I’m just sharing my opinion and having a friendly conversation as I think you hold great merit and credibility on your take and I love geeking out!!

This is where Hellraiser ends for me and it's where I would tell people to end if they want to check out the series. I personally think Wishmaster is a better successor to Hellraiser than the rest of the actual Hellraiser sequels after this

That might be because Wishmaster was written by Peter Atkins, who also wrote the second, third, and fourth Hellraisers. Funny, Wishmaster was another franchise where the sequels didn't fare very well. The first movie is the only decent one. It's cheesy as hell, but a fun watch. I enjoy it for what it is. The sequels were just atrocious, though. Especially the third and fourth films.

Really? Whishmaster 2 wasn´t great. And 3 and 4 feel like amateur movies. Very bad amateur movies.

After bloodlines Inferno isn't really bad and it's pretty underrated, hellseeker is decent cause Kirsty comes back but after that deader and hellworld are bad. Revelations is awful and judgement is good and it's much better than revelations.

The worse thing is that pinhead was created in the great war so how could they summon him in 17th century France 🤔
