Not only that, but this shows that they do more than just stand at the pass all the time idly waiting for food. They do get stuck in and try to get people to cook the food correctly. At least in the first couple services, anyway. The edited footage almost never shows them at one of the stations backing up the chef(s) that're there.

Reminds me of the one episode in a later season where the sous chefs (I think it was Andi and James) did the whole service by themselves after the teams both flopped. this shows so well how pressure builds. its' quiet but chaotic and every small mistake causes a cascade of setbacks. its much easier to understand both why some chefs crack and why Chef Ramsay flips out. he tries so hard to guide them to success and each time they mess up he pushes them. what really upsets him isnt simply messing up a dish, it's a lack of communication, awareness, and honesty. this is the greatest idea for a series ever

List of services I’d love to see “served raw”; -Season 6’s opening night -Season 11’s opening night -Season 5’s first black jacket service -That one episode of Season 4 where Gordon got so baffled by Jason that he started banging his head on a table -episode where Joy quit in Season 12 -Any season 9 episode. I wonder if Elise is always as annoying as she is in the normal show or if they just take her worst moments -first 3 services of Season 8 (i think you know why)

I always enjoyed the quiet Ramsay more. Though him yelling is hilarious on a good day, no one can keep that up religiously for an entire service, not to mention the viewers needing to have the stamina to view it religously. We've seen how nice and patient he can be on videos posted all over this site. This is the genuine Gordon that needs more time in the spotlight. I am so happy that the official Hell's Kitchen channel has decided to experiment with this new type of content. I hope it works out in the end, because the positive feedback is noticeable.

One thing I think a lot of people forget about the first two HK seasons: barely any of the “chefs” competing on these seasons were pro chefs or made their living as such. Like if it were today, more than half of these people would be on MasterChef, not HK. So part of the reason there were so many mistakes in these early services is because most of these people didn’t have a clue what they were doing. I think it was starting with Season 3 that they started casting legit chefs to compete on this. And one of THOSE chefs was viewed as a weak link because she was a Waffle House chef! She would’ve had more kitchen experience than half the cast in the first two seasons!
@tultiden2040

I was so annoyed with how the red team treated Julia (the chef who worked at Waffle House). She finished breakfast service for BOTH teams, and yet everyone sees her as a liability. @@stevencoardvenice On season 1, only 3 of the contestants made their livings as chefs in major kitchens: Chris, Michael, and Ralph. They had Jessica and Dewberry, who were a headhunter and pastry chef respectively as well, but everyone else had jobs like "Office Assistant", "Account Manager", "Purchasing Supervisor", "Server's Assistant", and "Finance Manager". So over half the people on that season weren't pro chefs. As for Season 2, other than Heather being a Sous Chef, Keith being a Bartender/Chef, and Rachel being a Personal Chef, most people had jobs like "Former Stockbroker", "Caterer", "Fishmonger", "Marketing Exective", and "Deli Manager". Even if you count "chefs" like Virginia (salad chef), Garrett (Former Prisoner/Prison Chef), and Maribel (Cafeteria Chef), they weren't working in the same types of kitchens as the people you'd see on later seasons.

Some things I found interesting: -Chef Ramsay telling Garrett and Maribel to 'pick up' the dessert orders right after announcing the first tickets. It sort of sheds some light as to Ben's mess-up in actually bringing the desserts to him when he was told the same thing in Season 5, but maybe someone else can explain what exactly 'pick up' means in that context. -Gabe getting leaned on for some quail here, which may explain why, in the second service, he asked Gordon if he needed quail when it wasn't even on the order. -The infamous Pumpkin Risotto customer actually answering Gordon's "would you like it whole or diced" question. -Maryann just having no patience for the circus show in front of her; no wonder she moved on after Season 3. -Heather and Keith, usually rock solid, having some hiccups here. -Giacomo and Larry shown actually cooking something. -How painful the entire experience must have been for Gordon. The editing down in the actual episode really softened it for us. When the customers start chanting and cheering from the dining room, he just looks and sounds completely defeated.
