We lived in Cham for ten years, and my son skied for the Club de Sports. We've done some (!) of these runs.. Some! Wonderful place, best skiing anywhere in my experience. Off-piste skiing is the best! Have spent much time at the cafe at 2:30 - the Marmottons at the foot of the Grands Montets. Thanks for this..

If you've not skied the Chamonix valley you'd better do it soon. I first skied there 35yrs ago and the snowfall and levels now are nothing compared to then. In another 20yrs skiing in Chamonix will be nothing but a distant memory. 😥

Reminiscent of the Blizzard of Ahhhs from 1988, but Plake, Schmidt, & Hattrup did it on skinny 210cm boards! Everything became "extreme" after that film.

I love reading about the deaths in Alps each season. Every local I spoke with has a story about someone in their family/friends dying. I think I find it the most gratifying reading about the visitors who die. The year I was there in 2017, from August through September, at least 5 deaths occurred just for climbers. Local guides say that the average is 60 deaths per year. That seems a little high, but it is an average.

@@chamonix4658 I always wish they'd just show the skiing. I don't really want to know that the skiers were lucky enough to have grown up on skis (of course they did) or hear about their philosophy on life and how they are psychically tied to the mountains.

@@cvn6555 i think mountain sports can be pretty philosophical but yes I do agree with you. Not everyone was lucky enough to be born in the mountains with enough free time and money to dedicate to this sorta stuff lol. I do like to hear why people got into a sport, but a lot of it is complete bullshit outside of the simple fact that its fun
