He recovers from having his mind enslaved by Saruman, then almost immediately leads his people to a victory against overwhelming odds at Helm’s Deep. Then, he immediately rides to Gondor’s aid, inspiring his men and taking out a Southron captain. It takes a Nazgûl to finally defeat him. Theoden was a great man.

The Nazgul did not defeat him even with Thedeon's heroic death. The Nazgul was defeated and destroyed whereas Theoden King's was redeemed and lived his life ultimately as he intended, defending his people and coming to the aid of humanity in its hour of need! Warrior's way. That's how in the film, he says, "my body is broken..." But he let know that he was not now ashamed and is awaiting welcome to the halls of his fathers. And clearly HE was not broken. It's not mere sentiment especially in the world. Redemption. Whereas all the Witch King could do was declare, "you can't kill me!" RIGHT BEFORE being defeated, killed AND annihilated into the void. Der.

Speaking as a Viking reenactor, it is indeed important to measure your head size when getting a helmet made for you. Brain buckets are something you definitely want tailored if at all possible. Not possible with prop reproductions like this obviously, but it does ram home how personal armor was to each individual in historical eras of old.

HI guys - Ive only recently found our channel and just love it. The helmet is superb! I live in Australia and have been to the WETA Workshop in Wellington NZ, did the tour and actually held and wore one of Gimlis helmets !!! My heart nearly stopped. Unfortunately we where not allowed to take photos but I will remember the experience always. Keep uo the good work - LOVE it.

We purchased this with the idea of wearing it as part of a Theoden cosplay. The helmet was too small out of the box, but we removed the liner and it fit like a charm! I will be remaking the interior liner to fit the head more comfortably. It's really beautiful work!

I dont know if it gets said enough, but King Theoden is a genuine badass. Something that never occurred to me, Rohan is known for its mounted warriors, is thay why Theoden's sword is a one handed blade? I assume its so he can wield it on horseback.

It's certainly one reason. Real horsemen did opt for one handed swords even when two handed weapons were available but it's also important to note that (aside from their use of horses) the Rohirrm are based on the Anglo Saxon culture which ceased to exist long before two handed swords became the norm.

Probably possible to get a bespoke and functional steel and bronze helmet for the same price :p Late Roman officer's helmets (such as the Berkasovo helmet)are gorgeous and probably inspired Rohans helmets via Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian Vendel period finds.

King of The Golden Hall is a favorite chapter of mine so I probably have a bias towards Théoden or just to the entire land of Rohan and its people, it's not quite as solemn as Gondor can be, a line from the book is good for this "wise but unlearned" from Aragorn. I have always been ambivalent to the changes in the movie, I didn't like that Saruman had literally possessed Théoden, instead of the insidious corruption that Wormtongue did, being his advisor preying on his weaknesses and trust, I felt it made Théoden revitalization lesser. In the Book it's an fight between Gandalf's words and Théoden's weariness, where in the movie its like an exorcism with Gandalf magically removing Saruman from his mind, or whatever he did, I just felt it removed some pathos. There are also other small personal preferences, I felt he looked too young etc. etc. etc. Sorry, I'm rambling, The Helm looks nice.

Here's a spookie spoiler: Celembrimbor is Sauron. We are introduced after Anatar walked in Eregion. He tricked Celembrimbor and captured him. Killed him (the corp tied in the north castle Galadriel came accross). That was Celembrimbor. Sauron is a shapeshifter. He is shaped as Celembrimbor to trick everyone else. Remember what he said to Elrond? "I will give the middle earth smth they never seen before". Who do you think would say that? And what that individual is talking about? Well, you decide! But, Matt, if this is true I want Aragorn's Sword as a gift 😁.
