Gondorian aesthetic is simply unmatched😍 And practical! This is a very tall shield that can be moved to easily cover your head or feet, with a strap to let you brace your arm against it. I guess for the Númenoreans it might have been a regular heater shield though🤣 Thanks for the video!💙

People often incorrectly just say Gondor for this time period. The army during the last alliance we see on screen was mainly from Arnor. It should be named Arnorian shield, the army of Gondor did not fight at the Siege of Barad Dur, Gondor was being heavily attacked at the same time

What I love is the art history... the fan of the White Tree is represented architecturally in the domes of Minas Tirith and the ornaments on the pommel/hilt of Anduril.
@LordTelperion2 жыл бұрын
The fanned White Tree is SO much more beautiful and powerful than the branched version in later Gondor.
@LordTelperion2 жыл бұрын
And you can see the original White Tree icon on the Great Gate of the City too, particularly when Grond smashes through it... poetic to say the least.

Lead characters will often not carry shields (or have them knocked away or shattered rather quickly) for the same reason that they often carry only handguns (i.e. modern cop shows/movies) when they set up to make entry with a swat unit - it's purely a Hollywood thing. They don't want the large shield, or long gun (cause why in the heck would you take point with a pistol???) to block or obscure the main actor. It's all about screen time and visibility. Exposure of the main character/actor, as much as possible, helps them gain more recognition and promotion - it's often call "face time" (before the app was a thing). That is why it was so awesome for Karl Urban (Eomer of LoTR) to agree to be true to the lore of Judge Dredd and agree NOT to remove his helmet in the movie "Dredd" - unlike other depictions of Judge Dredd or even other notable characters whose facial anonymity only increased their awe, lore and reputation (i.e. Halo's Master Chief - the canon source material, not that bastardized abomination of a production recently shat out by Paramount).

A shield only made if you are right handed with your sword? Since the leather straps are positioned that way.

I'm thrilled you finally received this amazing Gondorian shield before Theoden King's rousing speech of "shields (that) will be splintered/shattered"! And now we highly trained elite soldiers of Gondor (yup, that's me, almost forgot about that when I ran and turned tail leaving our civilians defenseless) await Mithrandir's tactical orders since we're apparently without lieutenants and captains and our ONE captain has gone to kamikaze charge overtaken Osgiliath... a red day! Ere the sun RISES! Where's Imrahil when you need him?

Just imagine how heavy shields were back in the day - the long ones. I mean, they were much stronger than we are I’d imagine. But still, heavy.
@DeviousWaffles2 жыл бұрын
No need for the main guys to carry shields, for they are protected by plot armor.
@Banditks2 жыл бұрын
Long ago I bought the wooden version of this shield, I will have to say the quality is miles better in this version. I was disappointed enough in the wooden versions craftsmanship i actually sent it back. This version is much better, I wish the hand holds were re-positioned to be in line with eachother but overall its a great step forward in quality. The banner though could have been made of better quality materials. the tips at the bottom curl pretty badly and need to be flattened under heavy objects for hours to hope to straighten out. Overall I would have used better material. Now that we are in the 2nd age and the two key human characters Elendil and Isildur are becoming popular again. Will the Isildur Helmet and sword get a similar treatment from United cutlery like Eomers equipment got? We will see the Elendil helmet become available? I do mean the versions from the peter Jackson film not the rings of power versions.
@Joehatrix Жыл бұрын
I fear that if they re-release Isildur and Elendil’s helmets with torso like bases the helmets might also be made out of Polyresin. And thats a big no from me. As great of a paintjob a polyresin piece might have it will never look as metallic as the real deal. The low remaining inventory of the Original ones would be wiped out and they would double in value.
@Banditks Жыл бұрын
@@Joehatrix I own the King Dain Ironfoot helm that is made out of the non-metal, I also own the full Metal Isildur and Elendils helms. The benefit of the more 'modern' rendition of Dains helm is the interior actually has padding to more comfortably wear it. Also A helm of that design would weigh a metric ton if it was made of pure steel. Its already a hefty beast made out of the lighter material that showcases the detail of the helm better than metal could. This is specifically in reference to the Dain helm As for a Poly helm for Isildur and Elendil, I don't think its necessary, the helms sport a very thin and tall construction that would be negatively affected by a poly build. However the wooden spindle base is pretty lackluster when sitting next to the nicer and newer fake armor stand next to Dain or the elf helms. I would say keep the helms --metal-- and upgrade their bases. Even the metal ones could use an upgraded take on the exterior details. The interior being a very THIN bit of leather doesn't make for comfortable wearing for more than a quick picture it also locks out people with large or small heads being there is nothing to adjust inside. Have a small head? well your nogging is going all the way to the top of the cone and the cheek guards are going to be resting on your shoulders, I know this because it happened to a friend who wanted to wear them, made for a good laugh but was also disappointing. sure stuff some newspaper or something up in there, but UC has better quality now adays might as well take advantage of it. When in context with the shield, the wooden first edition that i received straight from UC was trash. The metal piece at the top of the shield were only attached with oversize thumb tacks also the metal piece was a good two inches too wide and hung off the sides. The shield also had more than a few painting mistakes and the white tree was a paint can sprayed on with a stencil. The handles to hold it weren't event attached to the shield, which is curved enough to not bang into the wall when mounted. It was extremely poor craftsmenship and this second edition is miles better in every way except for the banner.
@Joehatrix Жыл бұрын
@@Banditks Hahah had a chuckle thinking about your friend attempting to wear the empty wobbly helmets 🤭 thanks for your detailed thoughts on the matter, lots of valid points to consider! In concussion I don’t think united Cutlery is full blown into (re)production nowdays, right now they are struggling just to get the new Anduril into production, not even to mention the Sword of Isildur re-release on the way as well, there hasn’t been a word yet on if they are ready for production. I really do hope they can make it happen. My point is that if they are struggling with sword re-releases, imagine the nightmare they would face to re-release Helms that are way much more intricate, difficult and bulky to produce? But maybe it’s easier than what I think? One last personal opinion is that apart from the “new” Helm of Sauron that has the neck armor base and looks perfectly proportioned. The Helm of Eomer and King Theoden look like bubble heads because the base tries to replicate the entire shoulder length and its a cartoonish look for me once I seen it. Nothing wrong with it. Just not realistic enough for me. The “new” Gondorian shield has been in my wish list! Just haven’t had the time to make some space in my collection wall for it. And I appreciate you giving me your personal opinion/experience having owned both, I was actually keeping an eye out for one of the original ones to pop up on eBay, but not anymore.
