Hey folks! Just want to add: (this only applies to a tiny minority of you) any comments making fun of her appearance or anything personal will be deleted. I have no issues with Anna as a person and if being elegant makes her happy then that's great! This is a friendly roast (mostly aimed at myself tbh) and she is more than welcome to roast my oafishness in return 🤪 PS. Just because I'm roasting someone doesn't mean I dislike them, think they're problematic or am trying to "call them out". Honestly, I just thought some of the stuff she said was funny and thought I could make some good jokes about it - so I made a video. It's not that deep.

Fun fact about screaming: I live in Uppsala in Sweden, in a neighbourhood that consists mostly of uni-students. Here, it is socially accepted to go out on your balcony and scream on the top of your lungs every evening at 10pm. It’s called ”Flogsta vrålet” and is more popular during exam season 😌

I honestly don’t get the appeal of affluence EXCEPT for the ability to be able to truly explicitly GIVING A F- about what other people think about what you look like, if you’re “cool”, etc. I mean, the money obviously means not being weighed down by the constant stress of not having enough for everything you need, let alone want, but there is a point where that comfort can be achieved and you still aren’t “affluent”. Affluent means you have arrived, you are set for life, and you can CHEKC TF OUT of these games. Its also works a lot like confidence- its a mindset you either have or you don’t. It can’t be taught or bought and when you try to fake it, its PAINFULLY obvious to everyone who had it for real. Its why we have the term “new money”. Because you need money to be affluent, but money doesn’t make you affluent. And women like this SCREAM “I have been groomed as a trophy for the worst of the patriarchy since childhood, brainwashed into thinking it makes me special, and it had worked. Anyway, we MUST get together if you ever find yourself near my village- you are familiar with Stepford, yes?” 🤖

Anna is likely Russian, so it's important to know: after the fall of the USSR, women were obsessed with Russian royals of the past, as the monarchy was no longer considered evil. The 19th-century upper class was aggressively glamourized in 1990s-2000s Russia. Our moms told us to behave like LADIES as opposed to proletary or village women. So no wonder she speaks about this seemingly upper-class style so seriously.

shes finnish and swedish but maybe the russian thing comes from her finnish side. i lived in switzerland for a few years growing up and went to international school with some extremely rich people in zurich and a lot of people with immense wealth think and behave exactly like anna. anna currently lives in geneva. switzerland = breeding ground for "elites" (also extremely expensive country). i also believe anna attended finishing school in switzerland. her channel is about being aspirational.

@@somebody-br2hm no being the best version of yourself has nothing to do w attracting a super rich man. Anna attaches that to her message… her audience is hetero cis women and let’s be honest most of us want partnership and regardless of what “feminism” may make you think u want/Don’t want, most of us want families of some sort. I’ve noticed loser men like feminist Self-sufficient women bc they’re easier to mooch off of. Their attitude is “I don’t need a man”…Why not attract someone who can actually provide for you as opposed to to you being a mule for the entirety of your adulthood? My main issue w Anna is that she is obsessed w being skinny and not everyone is going to want a super rich guy. I’m not into the “I’m an aristocrat” attitude. But being the best (and most elegant) version of yourself to attract the best mate is not a bad thing. Men who act like men like women who act like women.

Personally I find Anna's thinking towards men, society and marriage very Russian, which is understandable in the light of her Russian mother. Anna's real name is Aija Räty and though she grew up in Sweden, her Russian mother is from Estonia and her father, who left the family early, is Finnish. It's rather interesting how Anna seem to have internalized typical Russian thinking this strongly and totally rejected the Swedish and nordic consensus of gendar equality and personal financial independence.

I've known a few very rich (old money) people in my life. Yes, they buy expensive high quality things that last for a long time but my image of real rich people has become the image of a woman in her 40's wearing good leather boots she's had for 20 years, jeans, a fair isle sweater with holes in it worn over a cotton shirt, messy hair in a low ponytail, as she gardens and potters around and visits the neighbors to give them some of the pheasants they shot recently. For special events they dress really classy and know all of the etiquette and who is who at the event and what everyone's relationship is to each other. It's like the high society ladies keep a list of who is currently getting along and who isn't. These people aren't snobby (at least not to your face) and have the good manners to make you feel at ease. It's also like they're so rich they can afford to look "unkempt" but in a very specific way that tells you they've got money.

Honestly! Personally I value elegance and I don't find the majority of the attitudes she teaches or the message she spreads very elegant at all. Audrey Hepburn broke so many of Anna's supposed rules and is still considered by many to be one of the most elegant women. I believe genuine kindness is also something that ties directly into elegance. Anyone of any class and social status CAN be elegant (and if that isn't their priority then that's also alright) but she seems so contrived and snobbish to me. As a lesbian, I also don't like the way a lot of her videos seem to carry the message of "be elegant for men" which is completely nonsensical.

I have bougie-like family in France and I have to say, most of these 'rules' are actual rules that people from this social class follow. I have never seen my mother in wrinkled clothes, she owns 0 tshirts, nothing with cartoon prints... My grandmother would always scold me for saying, "what/quoi?" instead of "excuse me?/je vous demande pardon?" or not saying Mrs/Mr when speaking to people... Basically, they follow most of these rules and they consider these 'basic education'. I'm not going to defend these rules and say these are the only way to live. They are old-fashioned and some of them reek of misogyny (although men are also expected to be 'well groomed'). That being said, these are indeed some of the unspoken social rules of 'old money' and it is totally someone's choice whether to follow them or not. Something else that she doesn't mention in the video is that, no matter how much you follow those rules, 'old money', much like in The Great Gatsby, will likely forever remember your humble origins and look down on you, regardless of your present fame or success. My bougie family has said things such as 'this person is from X but at least they're educated,' meaning that "at least" this person knows about these social rules, despite not being from a rich family. I think they also come off as quite weird in a society that is trying to break social class habits. In the US, such rules look absurd to the everyday person because the social distance between social classes is much less great. In the UK or France, these still exists to some degree. There are still even debutante balls where girls will learn these and other 'elegant' behaviors. This would actually be really interesting to dive into-- is there a connection between gender equality and debutante balls in various countries? Once again, this is no way a defense of these behaviors. If Anna what's her name can profit off of making social observations, then that's her choice and her life. She didn't create these rules but she sure is trying to perpetuate them because that's her brand. And it's of course your right to judge and comment on them as well. Have a nice day :)

In a way I agree, much of it are things that are useful if you want to survive in such a world while maintaining the social approval. And at times they help make a favourable impression, if I ever am in a position to need to kiss up to some old-money snobs, like in some jobs one must, her videos will be a gold mine. However considering the restrictive ideals coming with that, regarding gender, lifestyle, self expression and so on, I believe it's not really healthy for these to be spread as gospel to an elegant life as if this was aspirational. I get it, quite a lot of it (fashion rules, basic manners) I like following myself at times but the clear classist implications, the negation of individuality and the heavily gendered standards just aren't something I could ever consider an appealing way of life. So, what I am trying to say is yes, useful advice to survive in that old money world for a bit - but unless you're being paid for it it's a lot of effort to put into things that mainly spread harmful values. Take piano lessons instead, learn to paint, read classic literature - those old money families often turn equally impressed to real skill and might even permit for a shred of individuality for someone they consider an artist.

@@nellgwyn2723 I think the spread of these rules online is a form of "democratization" of elegance. Now everyone can be elegant, regardless of their social class. Elegance is no longer a form of etiquette exclusive to rich people, but rather an "aesthetic" or lifestyle tips which anyone interested can follow. And as for the "restrictive ideals" you mention, I don't see any problem with it. Being hyper-feminine/masculine is just as valid as being genderfluid as far as expression goes. And what do you mean by "self expression"? Couldn't the adherence to this lifestyle be considered a form of self expression (since it's completely optional)?

What kind of sHaCK is she living in?! - Poor girl doesn't know about custom fit couture tshirts for lounging, sad. - Very *rude* of her to not disclose the finishing schools SHE went to... I'll guess the reasons why she hasn't. Anybody can be a judgemental assh0!e, but being a boring android has NEVER been a synonym for "classy" or "elegant". People can learn table manners and convenient clothe fitting in other much more congruent, amicable and useful youtube videos without suffering through condescending remarks. What this blonde lady said are mostly baseless opinions and it bothers me way too much how cute but outdated practices are perverted into this pop culture "boss babe" nonsense.

"The birthday suit is not ladylike" Lol omg this was gold 😂 I used to be really into pursuing an elegant, classy, feminine lifestyle and while some of these principles really did improve my confidence, attitude, and goals for the better, a lot of it just made me stressed. I began to feel like nothing I was doing was good enough and was overly critical of my behavior, even in the comfort of my own home. I've learned to be all these things without torturing myself in the process

hot tip for anyone who's still wearing yoga pants for comfort, you gotta go to wherever grandmas near you shop and get some of those baggy wide leg grandma pants. they're the comfiest thing ive ever worn and they always have massive pockets. they come in lots of cute grandma patterns and colours like pastels and flower prints too not that yoga pants are bad to wear out, but grandma pants are just way more comfy and also pockets

@Caio0_057 3 жыл бұрын
@@berryyrreb1946 I don't know if it would necessarily make her desperate, but I am using HER WORDS here. She said that elegant ladies are not desperate for men, which means that she must think that "less elegant" ladies are desperate for men. If she didn't think that, she wouldn't have mentioned it. Therefore she is making a distinction between wanting to appeal to men (which she really wants elegant ladies to do) and being "desperate" for men. I don't think that distinction is valid as it is inherently subjective and based on sexist stereotypes, so I decided to call her out on it.

@@vulpesvelox617 It's weird because to me, personally, she sounds 100% Swedish. She was born and raised in Sweden (and was apparently a participant on the Swedish version of Love Island/Paradise Hotel), which would explain her accent. However, you're not entirely off-track. Apparently she has some Russian/Estonian/Finnish heritage on one of her parents' side (her last name was originally the Finnish-sounding Räty). That being said, it shouldn't (I'm not saying it 100% doesn't) affect her accent seeing as how she was born and raised in a Swedish-speaking household. But maybe you sniffed out something miniscule that isn't apparent to my Swedish ears. Simply that you're more adept at picking up on the Russian influence and I'm more adept at picking up on the Swedish, so we get different impressions from the same accent based on where we're from. :-)
