I agree completely, but I think we should be critical of people trying to sell products and then hiding cosmetic procedures. Like the Kardashians and their “skinny teas”, or J-Lo with her new skincare line. I have a problem when celebrities are making bank on insecurities, while hiding cosmetic procedures and acting like products can deliver the same results.

I mean, I try to avoid those pages that do things like that, but if it was my face, I would be stressed out. Sometimes I think it must be one hell of a crappy job to be an entertainer, no money is worth that stress imo. Plus the job itself where they have to do stuff like wake up at 2 am to put on makeup which takes 8 hours to put on.... that's so distressing. And then some critic calls their performance alcohol splashed into their eyes, people make fun of everything they did, said, and believe. People are hired to harass them, and then a bunch of 11 year olds call them ugly on Instagram.. Oh, and they're called gay, when they are and aren't. They probably wonder if any of their relationships were ever real, and they most likely ditched college to do this crap so no matter how stressful it gets, there's no way out. They're supposed to "rise to the occasion and make the best of it". I mean anyone could have been a successful investment banker and made a ton of money, that's no brain surgery either, and although it's stressful, at least the eyes of everyone on the planet is not on them. They must really like their jobs to endure all this shit or are sublimating HPD, in which case, good for them..

@@browniecinco Exactly! If anybody's interested there is (or used to be?) a subreddit about the hypocrisy of the Wall, which proved that male celebs didn't age nearly as well as media outlets made them out to be -- so, lots of photos of male celebs looking schlubby and wrinkly, in contrast to their airbrushed portrayals on posters and entertainment sites. That said, nobody should be airbrushed or pressured into beauty standards. Performers especially should look like everyday people. Instead of pressuring them to be fit and look tremendous, they should be allowed to use their time to hone their craft and act or make music. Many of my favorite films, shows and songs were performed by people who weren't conventionally attractive. But of course, if the entertainment industry operated like that, then many companies in the beauty industry would collapse over night! At the same time, they're idiots for gate-keeping make-up as a "feminine thing", whereas if they just encouraged people who want to wear make-up to do so, and invited men and women of any age to learn about cosmetics without feeling shame or pressure, they'd probably make an even higher profit. All it takes is a few years with very minor, if any at all, changes (braces come off, skin clears up a bit, we learn to take better care of ourselves, and most importantly, we gain confidence!) and basically everyone looks better in their 20s than in their teens. I always thought I would age gracefully, but I didn’t count on the fact that my depression would keep going, and I’d be 28 years old, diagnosed with bipolar, and all the crying I’ve done would show up on my face in the form of deep wrinkles between my brows. It takes a lot for me to not feel self conscious and ashamed for something I can’t control. Meanwhile my husband legit looks like a dilf and at times I get so stressed feeling I look like a hag. It is so annoying, this deeply engrained beauty standard! To the point that it plays into the mental illness stigma, so you can’t have a mental illness and, if you do, it just can’t show up on your face??

I turned 30 in March, internalized ageism has really caused me a lot of confidence problems as I've aged. Our societal worth as women *IS* directly tied to our age and beauty. This is a sad reality and the result of a messed-up society. However, societal worth is not the same thing as inherent worth. According to societal worth, women are also worth less than men, poc worth less than white people, those who aren't rich worth less than rich people - it's the product of a sick society.

My mom's a cosmetic surgery specialist. She basically told me the same stuff these "celebrity_plastics" pages do, and her intent is basically so I don't get frustrated that I'm not growing out of my "baby fat" when I'm older (I'm 18), or my eyelids don't magically become higher, or my nose wings don't get slimmer. So, I think it's useful. People think that surgeries or fillers are always noticeable, and those little tweaks get under the radar and feed into the "glow-up obsession" imo.

I think this isn't the correct way to combat beauty standards. why are these women sacrifice and the stepping stones for nasty Instagram accounts and gossip rags. no matter how you slice or dice it it just doesn't do anyone good. these people have to go through social media with people assume and speculate what they have done. they are people, they have feelings..... yeah......
@Googleusergoogleuser-b4p3 жыл бұрын
@@Queennari what I'm saying is that the accounts that simply point out the surgery done should not cast any judgements on these women. Those who post it to "expose/drag" those women should be just called out for their tone.

@@Googleusergoogleuser-b4p but they do. they parade these women around like zoo animals and it double down on mindsets of complete lack of self esteem and transparency. unless you have their medical records you simply will not know every procedure done. and what is it our business who did what? it's a attitude of entitlement that feel like we have the right to these people personal lives and information. there are many celebrities that do not hide that they have work done, and there those who want it to remain private because of beauty standards and stigmas. they are victims too of this fucked up industry. with more people coming out and trying to take steps forwards against it this is just taking 2 steps back, because it will always become fuel for those who want to hurt others based on their looks. the correct way to combat these things is to stop glorifying unweight air brushed images. your beef isn't with these celebrities, but with the modeling industry. they are the ones who are shoving those standards down our kids throats. the magazines are the ones who need to have change, these accounts are doing absolutely nothing but fueling chatter and gossip. I always thought the term "aging gracefully" meant just accepting changes that come along with aging. I never knew it dealt with how you actually look, as the video and some comments seem to imply. People would say that about my grandma, that she aged gracefully. I thought they were talking about her struggle with Alzheimer's. I think I'm gonna refuse to Google it and hope it doesn't mean like a "Julia Roberts at 50 she still looks so good omfg" kinda thing. I choose to believe it means accepting that living life necessitates growing older and there are changes that come along with that. This is probably a controversial thing to say, but I wish we lived in a world where cosmetic surgery, make up, filters, and airbrushing didn't exist. And obviously they do, but I just think the less we engage with these things the better. I hope we can get to a point where we're not defined by how we look and don't put much emphasis on it. There is so much more to life.
