It is 100% dependent on 1 factor. Sugar and it's sources. High sugar(and plant defense chemicals)+ high cholesterol = heart disease. With respect, Professor Bart Kay and many Paleo Anthropologists will most certainly attest that in the absence of glucose, elevated cholesterol has absolutely no effect on cardio pathophysiology, whatsoever, in any human era. There are enormous amounts of that kind of research. It's been around for quite some time. No different than botany. We have known that all plants(yes, all of them) are poisonous, in one degree or another, for hundreds of years. I understand the trust but verify mentality, but you don't need a doctorate or a PhD to work that out. I eat plants, I get sick. I eat steak, I get better....... Whatever, could that mean?

Letter About Asthma by K.P. Buteyko MD-PhD: Two hundred years ago asthma was considered a mild ailment. Having asthma generally meant having a long life free of other diseases. However, no one could explain how asthma prevented other ailments or why asthmatics lived longer than others. Today, we know that asthma is not an ordinary disease. Bronchospasm, the main component of asthma, acts as a protective mechanism, helping to maintain biological constants and important functions at near-normal levels. We have also learned that asthma or bronchospasm cannot exist unless the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) level in the lungs is abnormally low. Since the metabolic and immune systems can function correctly only if the CO2 level is normal, the limit of the asthmatic's CO2 level protects him or her and allows for a long and healthy life. It is this powerful defense mechanism that provides the asthmatic with an improved biological system. Evidently, bronchospasm is one way the organism has adapted to its environment. Modern drug treatment for asthma is aimed at neutralizing this protective mechanism. The organism then fights back again and again with more intensive bronchospasms leading to a rapid deterioration of asthma from drug treatment. It is not possible to cure asthma by removing a protective mechanism like bronchospasm. Only when the condition responsible for the bronchospasm is removed, can asthma be reversed. K.P. Buteyko once said that: To test the validity of the scientific discovery made by us almost 30 years ago, it takes 30 seconds of time: offer an asthmatic hyperventilation - he will have a suffocation attack, offer to reduce breathing - will relieve the attack. The cause of the asthma attack is hyperventilation of the lungs, no one said this before our scientific research. And so I have been asking scientists for 30 years to spend 30 seconds to check this (1986).

@cjbartoz5 ай бұрын
@@tinacox9526 Getting Started by Peter Kolb While the Buteyko method introduced into the west has been getting excellent results, it does not entirely accord with Professor Buteyko’s recommended practice. During two weeks he spent in New Zealand in December 2000, he demonstrated the Buteyko technique as it should be practiced. Aim Firstly, it needs to be understood that breathing too much is a bad habit that leaves you with a debilitating shortage of carbon dioxide and bicarbonate. It usually results from long term, undischarged stress. Any stress makes you breathe more. If this is sustained over a long time period it becomes a habit. The physiology behind this habituation process is well understood. Buteyko therapy aims at reversing this, by habituating to less breathing. You do this by developing and sustaining a feeling of a slight shortage of air over a long time period. This gradually restores your carbon dioxide and bicarbonate levels back to normal. Maximum Pause While it is possible to stifle an asthma attack with a long and uncomfortable breath hold know as a maximum pause (MP), this procedure does not reverse your asthma and does not retrain the respiratory center to pace your breathing correctly. Professor Buteyko is emphatic that the maximum pause has no therapeutic value in restoring healthy breathing, which is the aim of his therapy. It is also dangerous for people with various disorders such as hypertension, heart disease, epilepsy, kidney disease and diabetes. It can also destabilize your breathing, making it worse. Unfortunately the maximum pause has been introduced into a westernized version of the Buteyko technique, much to the annoyance of the Professor. An understanding of the physiology behind the Bueyko method leaves no doubt that the maximum pause cannot improve your breathing. DIY/Self-help Professor Buteyko is firmly opposed to the DIY/self-help approach. The Buteyko technique relies 100% on patient compliance for effectiveness. Learning it from a script is like learning Yoga or martial arts from a book. Most people will experience changes in their bodies as their CO2 levels rise. These changes vary from one individual to another. Buteyko practitioners help you deal with these changes, keep you motivated and ensure that you do the breathing exercises correctly. Support for your Buteyko practitioner enables him to continue his work of bringing the technique to other sufferers. Nevertheless, very few people around the world have access to a Buteyko practitioner. So here are some basics to help get you started. Medication Do not make any changes to medication. Steroids must be taken as prescribed. Because of carbon dioxide shortage asthmatics often don’t make enough Cortisol (natural steroid) and must have supplements. Steroids are not just anti-inflammatories but they are needed by the body and without the right amount it can be almost impossible to get breathing back to normal. Your doctor will be able to review your need for steroids when you stop having asthma symptoms. Bronchodilators must be taken only when needed. As you progress, discuss with your doctor the possibility of weaning yourself off long acting bronchodilators and replacing them with short acting ones. That will give you more control over using them when needed. You should find that within days you will be able to overcome asthma attacks with reduced breathing and won’t need the bronchodilators. Nevertheless, you must always carry them with you for emergencies. Nose breathing Always breathe through your nose. If your nose is blocked perform the following exercise: After breathing normally (do not make any exaggerated breathing manoeuvre), hold your breath for as long as is comfortable, and then gradually resume very gentle breathing. It may help to pinch your nose, nod your head a few times or do some other form of exercise. In stubborn cases or when the blockage is due to a cold, you may have to try a few more times. To avoid breathing through your mouth in your sleep, you might like to experiment with a little light medical paper tape to keep your mouth closed. Mouth taping at night is not recommended by Professor Buteyko, but most people find it extremely valuable. If you do, protect your lips with suitable cream, use a low tack tape (some are quite aggressive), and make sure you fold a tab or handle at each end for rapid and easy removal. Do not go to sleep with tape on your mouth if this causes any form of anxiety. Comfort Make sure you’re comfortable before starting the exercises. Remove unnecessary clothing since the improved blood carbon dioxide will dilate blood vessels in the skin, thereby warming you up. Posture To get your posture right stand with your back to a wall, heels, shoulders head and bottom touching the wall. Now drop your shoulders. Keep this upper body posture when sitting. Relaxation While maintaining your posture, relax all the muscles in your chest, neck, shoulders, arms, tummy and particularly the diaphragm. It’s a good idea to tense them up a bit first before relaxing them so that you can properly identify them and make sure they are all relaxed. Normal Breathing Take off your shirt and stand in front of a full length mirror. Watch your chest and tummy for breathing movement. Make sure that your chest does not move at all, and only the upper part of the tummy moves, between navel and breast bone. The second thing to check for is that the tummy moves out with each in breath and not the other way around. Many people get this wrong. Your out-breath must be free, relaxed and unforced. Reduced breathing (RB) Your aim is to develop a feeling of slight hunger for air, sustain this over a period and do this frequently. In fact, this should become a habit so that you do it all the time until you have achieved your health goal. Try to feel your breathing and become aware of your breathing pattern. Now try to maintain this pattern while taking in just a little less air on each breath so that you develop a slight hunger for air. Initially try to sustain this for two minutes, then five and then ten. If you follow all the steps correctly, then you should feel really calm, good and even a little sleepy. If you already practice relaxation techniques, yoga etc, you can combine them with reduced breathing. Measuring your breathing Hyperventilators breathe more than normal in order to achieve lower than normal blood carbon dioxide levels. It follows that if you have to breathe more than normal, then you will also not be able to hold your breath as long as you should. Professor Buteyko has cunningly used this principle to measure your blood carbon dioxide by testing how long you can hold your breath. You start the pause somewhere in your normal breathing cycle. This is how you start the pause: Look up with your eyes and at the same time pinch your nose and start a stop watch. Just before it starts to get uncomfortable, stop the stop watch and resume normal breathing. You should be able to resume normal breathing without any effort and without taking deeper or more frequent breaths. Some precautions: - Do not take a deeper breath before the pause. - Do not make any attempt to empty the lungs before the pause. - Do not worry about which phase of the respiratory cycle you happen to be in before starting the pause. A pause is just an interruption of normal breathing. The time in seconds is called a Control Pause (CP). Asthmatics typically have a CP of 5 - 15 seconds. (But not everyone with such a low CP has asthma.) Your aim is to achieve a CP greater than 40 seconds, although for perfect health Professor Buteyko recommends a CP of at least 60 seconds. Doing a Set When at rest, correctly seated, comfortable and relaxed and after breathing normally for at least five minutes you are ready to do a set. A set consists of Pulse - CP - Reduced breathing - 3min normal breathing - Pulse - CP First measure your pulse and then do a CP. Record the results on a table. Then do reduced breathing for ten minutes. Breathe normally for three minutes, then take your pulse again and take another CP. If you’ve done your reduced breathing correctly your pulse should go down and your CP should go up. Sometimes the pulse remains the same. If it goes up you’re not doing it correctly. After three days you should be able to do around 8 to 10 sets a day. You can then start integrating reduced breathing into your daily life. Ideally you should aim at doing reduced breathing all day. That takes care of the exercises. Here are a few helpful hints to help your recovery. - Don’t eat unless you are hungry. Only eat until you have had enough. Eating increases breathing; eating excessively increases breathing excessively. - Don’t dress too warmly. Be careful not to overdress children. If you are worried about them being cold, check their ears, nose, hands and feet. If these are warm, they’re OK. - Make sure you get plenty of vigorous exercise. But don’t exercise to the point where you have to open your mouth to breathe. If any of these recommendations make you dizzy, sick, anxious or give you palpitations, stop immediately. If possible see a Buteyko practitioner.

I watched Dr Odville, heartsurgeon, elaborating a lot on heartdisease and cholesterol, being himself on carnivore lifestyle. If LDL is high, just check if it is the small density LDL or the high one. Small is what causes plaque, high not. Statins work only on high particles LDL which you shouldn't lower as THAT is GOOD. Also if triglycerides and HDL have a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 it is perfect.

I did very well on keto for almost a decade, but for some reason, i am responding terribly to carnivore. After the initial few days where i started to notice some lowered inflammation, i have since gained weight, ldl up, triglycerides up, bp up, a1c unchanged. Here I am, now a month later...ive cut my eggs from 5 to 3 for breakfast, cut my ground beef from about 1-1.5 lbs at dinner with salt and butter...to a lb or less, no salt, less butter. I was already supposed to be in a calorie deficit...i can see where i may have been adding in enough to make up for that in "little bit here, bite of cheese there" situations...but those snacks or sneaky bites were all still eggs, meat, or cheese. im trying to go stricter and just be lion til new years, but i cant really afford that with even 73/27 beef going for 4 bucks a lb...unless i make sure to eat at a severe deficit...but that tends to crush willpower much faster and could lead to over-snacking.

Great to see an honest MD talking. Yes, not sure is not sure. Though I am in the same situation wanting to find out if high LDL is actually bad or not. Many of our kind on low carb high fat diet experience this sky-high LDL condition, but all other indices are improved clearly. In my case, I had 8.8mmol/l TC with LDL 6.5mmol/l, HDL 2.0mmol/l and TGC 1 mmol/l after a couple of years' HFLC diet. GP puts me on statin. I resisted at the beginning but decided to take it later on, as I don't feel any immediate side effects from it. They said I was the kind of familial hypercholesterolemia which I am not really convinced. I have had high TC for long time, over 7mmol/l since I started checking it 15 years ago. I did a CTCA this year and my CAC score is 0. However, I do have some plaques in the coronary arteries (less than 25% blockage). I am 55 and not sure if this is considered normal condition, or indeed I already have CVD. These days, cholesterol science is clear as mud.

Hi first you have to realize that this is a healing way of eating not a weight loss diet. So let that go and continue on your path to Good health. Your weight will normalize when your body is done with more or most of the healing. I'm a 63 year old male and I've been eating carnivore for almost 3 years now I too drink coffee with cream in it and I generally eat one meal either for dinner and sometimes I will eat an earlier meal 3-4 hours before that in late afternoon I've also had very good success with just occasional couple of days fasting up to 3 days. For most of the first year of my carnivore journey I actually gained a little weight. Although I was already seeing some restructering of my body shape but I was picking up some weight and then after that time all of a sudden my body just switched and started losing both in my stomach and love handles but also just the subcutaneous layer that was covering my whole body. With no real effort on my part to lose weight this has continued to occur to this day I'm continuing to just slowly lean out and I wasn't in a hurry anyway it seems like this process and this timeline is also helping excess skin tighten up. Another thing to know is be aware that the cream in your coffee needs to be very clean where I live you cannot find whipping cream that does not have other crap in it like carrageen etc. Find clean, most of the additives are things you don't want to consume. I drink coffee every morning ,always with homemade cream and it's either consists of whole milk or half-and-half mixed with four egg yolks and a stick of melted butter blended together this is my creamer for the day. And then eat sometime in the late afternoon early evening ground beef , eggs ,ribeye and occasionally chicken thighs. I've stopped mostly eating pork products as they don't sit very well and neither does lamb for me. Be patient and good luck ...

Daily you’ll want to be sure to get about 1g-1.2g protein per pound of lean body mass and then add high quality animal fat to this until satiety. This will usually end up being about a 1:1 protein to fat ratio in terms of grams. Remember that 1 pound of meat has about 100g of protein. You need 10 glasses of mineral water and 3-4g of 100% unrefined seasalt a day.

I've done nothing but argue with my doctor for years now. He's insisted I'm going to die if I don't do something about my ldl levels. I kept telling him I didn't want to take statins but I finally gave in. No matter which one he prescribed after a week of taking one my joints were in so much pain I couldn't use my hands and walking was difficult. Had new blood work done and my results were triglycerides 60(a bit higher than normal for me as I've eaten a low carb diet for 30 years), hdl 60, ldl 200. I visited my wife's cardiologist who insisted on prescribing me injections and sent me to have a stress test and imaging done. When I found out the injections were $600 each and I'd have to take at least one per month I refused. The results came in and were negative for blockages. Not bad at 74 and I put that down to eating around 12 carbs per day. Not exactly carnivore but close. At any rate I decided enough was enough and tried niacin. Had to work my way up from 250mg to 1000mg over a month. Two and half months later more blood work and my ldl had dropped 50 points, triglycerides were unchanged and hdl rose 20 points although I felt the previous levels were fine. Now my doctor wants me to continue taking the 1000mg daily but I'm wondering what nasty side effects may be happening. My blood sugar, normally low has risen. I'm also itchy much of the time even though the niacin flush has gotten very mild. Mouth keeps a bad taste and stomach excess acid is frequent.

I'm a 64 Y/O man, 12 years retired from the Navy, low BMI forever except when over-muscled. Went from the standard American diet (SAD) I followed my whole life, with crazy wrong eating, to Keto due to some KZbin doctor vids I found convincing. I got immediate good results I could see. I later moved to "Ketovore" just to try it. I like it, and love the results. My most recent VA annual physical exam surprised me but not the Doctor. He was used to seeing Carnivores, and asked me if I was one. He showed my a too high LDL - 194, a too high total Chol - 293, and a too high Triglyceride count - above 400. The HDL was good at 79. Worst of all was my fasting glucose and my A1C - he grinningly asked me if I had ever been or was now diabetic. I laughed and then quickly settled myself, but was genuinely amused. He was too, but only due to seeing this before - a glucose reading that fits the "standard American" - an overweight, out of shape person. All of these readings have to be re-configured to fit the new kind of energy system - the use of ketones instead of glucose for the majority of energy use. Both are still used - glucose doesnt go away. But with the body using mostly fat instead of glucose for energy, the use of Cholesterol has to go way up - thats what carries fat - triglycerides - around to all the cells that need energy! So yeah, this all has to be investigated a whole lot more. Thank goodness for those guys doing that work on LMH cases - they seem to be pioneering this vital new medical knowledge.

Triglycerides shouldn’t be that high. They are very dependent on carbs and sugar intake. It could be a transitional number if you just started but if you see that again at your next physical I’d be looking for sneaky carbs in things like sweetners and creamer. Get a glucose monitor and check every morning when you wake and perhaps a couple of times during the day to see reaction to meals. Be sure you are eating enough fat. Sometimes people eat chicken breast and other lean meat and it spikes glucose just like carbs. Look it up if that’s you. You need the fat to keep your glucose low. Triglycerides are way strange for sure. Normally see those drop over a year or less to 100 or less. HDL looks right on. Maybe you had a dessert or cheat meal within a day or two of the blood test? My trigs doubles from one thanksgiving meal with pecan pie, etc. from 100 to 200. Elevated for at least 2 days. I pretty much don’t cheat except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Don’t feel too bad if I don’t repeat it more than one meal.

My position is that LDL quality is more important than LDL quantity. If you have poor quality LDL (Pattern B, oxidized, high trigs, etc.) then maybe you should worry about the quantity (because you have a lot of bad stuff) but high quality LDL shouldn't be a problem. It's great to see this concept being addressed as a possibility.

Here is my take on this LDL "confusion." I have metabolic syndrome, including Type 2 Diabetes. If my LDL-C is high it is because my insulin resistance is a problem. And it is the insulin resistance, with its high blood glucose and high blood insulin, that damages the lining of my coronary arteries. My high LDL, whether that be large fluffy or small dense LDL particles, has ZERO effect on (i.e. does NOT damage) my arteries. So if my LDL-C is getting high, I need to clean up my excessive carb intake and the concurrent elevation of blood INSULIN. If I just try to get my LDL-C down, with statins or PCSK9 inhibitors, that ain't going to do "squat" to minimize/stabilize my atheroscerosis because LDL particles do NOT injure/burn the coronary glycocalyx NOR endothelium. The esteemed Dr. Macolm Kendrick believes that all these scare tactics regarding high LDL-C, LDL-P, ApoB levels are just a distraction that lead us away from the root cause of CVD which is HIGH GLUCOSE and HIGH INSULIN!
