Help, I'm an empty nester, advice please

Things will ebb & flow now children will bring you adult issues, come n & out one moved back home lol so still crumbs in the kitchen but he's company lol youngest getting married next Sept bringing a new daughter into the family I've never had, middle moved to CA last Dec I gathered all the boys went to Charlotte nc last Sept to see my middle one who builds bridges 🌉 so a family trip.....pandemic separated us for a bit, work was demanding for my youngest & I ....now we are both reorganizing a tad w work. Go w the flow my dad's advice. I have tried gardening past 3 years weather not very cooperative lol heat no rain but good for when I work locally & from home. I've asked for more family time which chad is giving but Charlie is too far CA busy w work & fun. You gotta let them go & receive what you're given I was left out holiday plans past year so I'm going to make my own so new boundaries don't wait on them for last minute plans that fall thru, have your own let them fit in. I am trying to stay focused on work & living breathing & letting go sorting my house as they've come & gone depositing left behinds everytime they move lol in my basement. Finding a house yard work is a bit much knowing they most likely all will move on w their lives even oldest eventually will go back out there. So an apart near work may be more cost effective after flooding here & a hurricane I'm not sure 😕 anywhere near me would be helpful..we've had a lot of extreme weather all year round in VA so life keeps moving keeps changing. I love my children but I am responsible now for my needs, happiness. As we grow older help comes from other sources.

I suggest you think about things you can do for you; just you. A routine you might want to start, such as going to the library, or a coffee house, or even take a class. Being out with people will help with the loneliness.

Hi Lisa, I'm a Mum of 3, 2 of them are students living away, and my teenage girl is still at home. As a graphic designer, i've just done a book about the empty nest ( published in french). While working on the book I was sometimes in tears, realising what is coming though. The empty nest is a delicate period that take us always by surprise. But I think, Lisa, you are doing well, keeping busy, working, doing things and having projects, getting a puppy ( oh yes !), are the right things to do. They will be at the beginning some highs and lows, you are adjusting in this new position in your life.
