I recognize a lot of these but I have only read one of them, and that is "The Historian". Apparently rated it 2 stars on goodreads. But heard that some ppl like it. For me it was too dense. I have English as a second language. I am from Sweden so that might be why I struggled with this book. White smoke is on my TBR as well so would recommend that despite not having read it... yet. Heard really good things about it all over KZbin :) Good luck!

I've been stuck at about 55% of the way through The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova for what feels like a decade. I didn't hate it, but for some reason every time I pick it up I enter a massive slump. That said, I am a massive fan of The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher, I've read and reread it and parts of that story will stay with me forever. I've read 5 T. Kingfigher novels this year, but I have yet to get to Nettle & Bone, despite wanting to read it as well. The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling was alright, I gave it 4 stars and noted it was pretty much Crimson Peak with magic, not a bad thing. I also gave Witches of Ash and Ruin 4 stars, but it was good. I gave The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow 5 stars and cried because there were moments that felt like SPOILER FOR BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, potential slayers being called. So, of the ones I've read, I'd prioritize The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher and The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow.

I've heard such good things about the Appeal and I'm hoping to read it soon! I tried to read the Historian a few months ago, and I ended up DNFing it, but I'm pretty sure it's just that I had a personal issue with the writing style - it was very slow, but if you don't mind that, I'd give it a try I'm partway into White Smoke and I'm enjoying it so far - I've seen it described as a psychological thriller set in a creepy house, and that's accurate so far The Lost Apothecary is on I loved - it's not so much about killing toxic men and more about what happened when one specific attempt goes wrong - it's really good, and the past / present timelines are great I haven't read any of the rest though, hope you enjoy whatever you pick up!

I did add 2 books thanks to this video! Hope you're proud of yourself... as you should! 😁 I've read and reccomend The Lost Apothecary, but I wouldn't necessarily read it as a "spooky season" read. I got more a "feminist historical" vibe from it. I read it in November, which is when the weather is getting warm here (it's Spring for us in Brazil) and it was perfect for the season. You might save it for another month (but should def read it!)!

Great video! My two cents on the books I've recently read: the Society for Soulless Girls is a fun, quick read and a nice retelling of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde with the familiar humour of Laura Steven. Frendo didn't live up to the first book in my opinion - too many perspectives and slightly disappointing plot. But it was fun to be back in that world, so just listen to it with 2x speed as an audiobook and you'll fly through it. Oh and White Smoke is very good - again would recommend the audiobook. I was pleasantly suprised by how creepy it was for a YA and it had some good social commentary. But whatever you pick: have fun! And spooky season is a state of mind: November and December can be as spooky as you want 😉

I have read The Historian multiple times. The last time was maybe 10 years ago, but at least then I really loved it, so I am recommending that.

The Lost Apothecary was a fun, quick read if you're wanting to pick up something that you could complete in one or two sittings. One timeline is definitely stronger than the other though so it made it a "middle of the road" read for me. If it didn't have that second timeline, it would have been perfect! I wasn't a fan of Plain Bad Heroines. It sounded so good but I think the synopsis is a little misleading. I thought the filming they're doing at the school would be the forefront of the story and it's not. You spend a majority of the book with the characters not even at the school they're filming at. It wasn't until around halfway maybe 60% in the book that they even made it to the school. I slogged through the last half waiting for it to get good and (at least for me) it...didn't...really. If you do pick it up, I hope you enjoy it! It just wasn't for me.

I wouldn’t prioritise The End of Temperance Dare ❌, it’s not that it was bad just a bit forgettable and given how much else you have to pick from I just wouldn’t bother
