Just interviewed for a help desk role at a school district, so it was simple. These were my questions. 1. Why do you want a role as a network specialist support role? (This title is misleading since the job description is basically help desk.) 2. What is a RJ45? 3. List 3 ports on a laptop. 4. Do you have knowledge of these OS: Windows OS, MacOS, iOS, ChromeOS. 4b. If you don’t have knowledge in a specific OS would you be willing to learn that OS 5. Hands-on Tasks (show me how to power wash a chrome book, and factory reset an iPad) 6. How do you keep up to date with IT trends. 7. Do you have any questions for us? This was a really straight forward interview, I assume they’ll hire anyone, due to the demand of IT support for a school district. The pandemic has led to so many chrome books/iPads being used for their online schooling.

I literally just graduated from school with a C.I.S. degree but worked at the college help desk as a work study for experience in the I.T. field but we literally never used active directory at the helpdesk that was more for the analysts so I guess I should do the virtual box and practice as I'm filling out applications. The basis of this video is that you should be well rounded. Active directory is a must in a windows enterprise environment but the underlying concepts are key. This is the first stepping stone. Take it from someone who is well versed in AD....

Great vibes!! Hands on experience is so important. People seem to focus too much initially on certification across the pond. If we were hiring we would be looking for experience. I started on 1999 at 17.. Patching hundreds of PCs for Y2k compliance (NT4, Windows 95 etc). Fun times!

This is exactly my issue, I finished my CCNA and labbed heaps with Networking concepts, emulation and hardware. However, I couldnt land any networking job let alone any helpdesk jobs. Now im in the process of labbing everything helpdesk related in hopes to land my first proper IT job.

I don't have an A+ and was hired at fidelity help desk. They teach you about their propriety software. You have that mixed with office 365, Active Roles, and rebuilding a Group Policy that was corrupt.

My cousin who has no degree gave me very good advice, i had recently wanted to change careers and persue a CS degree, im 25 so its a big commitment to make, he said degrees are pointless, hes in his current job earning way more than people with degrees because he has more work experience. I was planning on getting a masters in comp sci (business undergrad) and I've taken a few coding classes, but I'd really like to start out in IT support and am beginning to feel like a masters would be over-the-top for that. Do you think i should start out with an a+ certification and then go from there?

Make sure your area is asking a+ first before taking it since every state and country is different. Learn the material, build a lab at home with vms and fix the resume. Than start applying for jobs. Make sure you talk to job recruiters and fix your LinkedIn profile.

Just watched this video you sent me. Thank you, it's very informative. Like I said even I have two small entry level MTA certs for networking and security nobody wants to hire me. I am still working on Security+. I didn't know this was a monster exam. They made it extremely complicated, unreasonable and obstructive. Than once again even with sec+ I keep hearing all kinds of stories. Some people got help desk jobs easy. Some got entry level security for like 45K. Some got 60-75K job right away. But I also keep hearing some cannot get into internship and some were waiting 2 years before getting a job. After watching this video I will learn how to create home lab but have to get done sec+ first. Btw what certifications do you have and how long took you for each? Fyi I will subscribe, thx for info.

I hold no certifications right now, I just have job experience. Yes, I plan on making an internship program real soon for new techs. This will help people to get a job in tech.

I’ve started my coding journey, still in college at the moment. I’m hoping to get an internship this summer, but so far it’s looking like it’s highly unlikely. I’ve been looking for IT internships, software internships, etc. I’ve applied to 15+ places, still haven’t heard anything back or they reject me without giving me an interview. How can I get experience without having experience ? I know my resume isn’t as thick as others, but I’m not even getting a chance. Where can I start? I need some guidance please. if its system admin, yes. You don't need to take a pay cut for system admin, it should be paying more. Check your local area and see what they require for system admin and learn those skills and certs.

You and professor messer have given me hope and I’ve learned so much more in 3 days than all of school. And now I finally know what areas I’m gonna attack A+ and then learning about the active directory etc on your playlist which is amazing since A+ is only 50% and after than network + and I think I’ll be ready and be knowledgeable in those areas at the end of the year and then security +. I have no certifications and I’m in IT. I have a strong work ethics and that’s how I got hired in IT. Don’t waste money on certs in the beginning. Gradually work your way towards it.
