Great videos! I also use much the same method for clearing patios, but I do suggest to clients that they pour boiling hot water with a little salt in it, on the spots where the weeds used to be. It makes it MUCH easier to control everything (but I only recommend this for paved areas). The only way to get rid of weeds in garden beds, is do it manually. There is no other way around it. I like how you take the time to do this, because a lot of gardeners (especially the franchise guys) cannot be bothered. Regarding the rain, I generally reschedule if its going to be wet. Apart from the fact slippery lawns aren't the safest work environments, I absolutely hate working in the rain. And you are right how hot it gets working in rainwear (unless its really, really cold).
@martinthegardenguy9 ай бұрын
Yes, I agree about hand weeding beds. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way 😁 I love it. It's very good for my blood pressure 😂 I also do the same about rescheduling work when I rains. Another way to get weeds out of a patio is to use a mixture of cleaning vinegar, water, a bit of dish soap, and a bit of salt into a sprayer. If you put a tarp down around the bottom of any tree or shrub that you are pruning, it makes it much easier to pick up the clippings afterwards, by simply rolling up the tarp.

Thank you for sharing your work with us. I wish we had weeds, but we have: bushes (thanks to the squirrels) and could start a tree nursery. Nah, seriously - the footpath around our garden gets cleaned once a week. We've hired a service to come and clean or shovel snow depending on the time of year. And the plants that push their way through the patio gaps are pretty things like bluebells or hollyhocks. They are allowed to grow there. 😉
@martinthegardenguy9 ай бұрын
Haha, I know what you mean. I look after several places where squirrels do this. One client of mine even grew a hazel woodland with all the nuts they had buried and forgot about. He had me dig them up and pot them on as saplings. Your garden sounds very well kept 😁 Thanks for the comment. Martin.

Trying to maintain our plot in the city cemetery, we used a saturated solution of table salt, applied through an injection from a large syringe into the soil between the slabs. Stronger chemicals can also be used in such way, as salt water cannot completely get rid of the toughest weeds.
@martinthegardenguy9 ай бұрын
Wow, that's a pretty cool method to keep the weeds down. I'm glad it works ok 👍 It's great that you take so much time to keep it nice. Thanks for the comment Best wishes Martin.

Wishing your client many years of good health. He sounds remarkable and has a beautiful garden. You did a lovely job on it. Brambles are violent in everything they do, their growth, their spread, their invasive nature and their sharp thorns then they reward us with their pretty flowers and the fruit for the birds, insects and humans. It’s a true love/hate relationship for me as I love the jam from the berries but the plant is a nightmare to deal with. Whenever I cut it back I feel guilty about taking it away from the creatures who need it. I’m sure it grows back to ten times its original size (I doubt it does really). Maybe I have been cutting it back at the wrong time of year but I’m sure I’ve varied that to no avail. Ah well xx
@martinthegardenguy10 ай бұрын
Haha, yes indeed it's a love/hate relationship 😅 I myself only love them for one month of the year, when me and the kids go picking 😁 You are right, though, a great plant for many creatures big and small. But never worry about cutting them back and depriving wildlife. They are (by nature) a plant of wild/unused spaces and never really do that well in a garden. They just like popping up to annoy everyone now and again 😂 I love how they like to root in the most difficult places to actually get to, and pull them out by the root. Anyway, thank you for the comment. Best wishes Martin.

Great job. Loved seeing you spread out the primrose. Another way to weed a patio like that one is to pressure wash it. It needs it anyway, so you would be doing both at one time!

@martinthegardenguy actually this is the first video of yours I've seen! It came through my feed and I decided to watch it. I will go and look for the pressure washing video. You asked the question about how else could you weed the patio, and I've seen others use the pressure washer instead of the weed eater. Not saying you should do that, just commenting. Thanks for replying! New subscriber!

Love this garden and how you are getting it ready for spring 😊. That time you put into the flowerbeds really does payoff. We’re waiting on our plumeria trees to get leaves again but our lemon and grapefruit trees are absolutely full. If So Cal could keep getting our normal rainfall again it would be so nice. Meanwhile I know you’ve had so much rain this winter. Looking forward to your follow up video. 😊

Oh wow, plumeria flowers are amazing. You're very lucky to be able to grow grapefruit and lemons 😁 I'd love to grow them. Unfortunately, not here in the UK, though. Not properly anyhoo. There are some patio lemon trees available, but the small yields aren't worth it. Thank you so much for the comment. Best of luck in your garden this year. Martin.
