Same! I ended up with a 1 week old dehydrated constipated kitten that was fed boiled chicken and taken away from her mother. I took her to the vet and was told if I'd waited just a day or two she might've DIED. All she did was cry out to me at night and I'd just cry with her, her little meows were so weak, it broke my heart to see her in that state. Lol I of course, cried when she finally pooped and was starting to feel better. (she's a spoiled 5 year old cat now ❤)

I had a foster this year that was born without eyes and only half of a nose. Everyone thought it was so sad and kept saying how pitiful she was. She was the happiest kitten ever! She was so playful and sassy. I had her until she was 6 months and by the time she got adopted she could do anything any other kitten could do and had memorized the layout of my 3 story house! They are amazing at adapting and learning how to live with what disabilities they have.
@allycrossingcloud4 жыл бұрын
how do you adopt kittens? (in terms of finding the kittens to look after and then find them a new home later on) I want to do that someday but im not sure how to do it, it seems like such a nice thing to do
@ehhhhlyssa4 жыл бұрын
Isabelle Marshall it’s actually pretty easy to get started fostering cats/kittens if you have the time and a good home environment for little kitties. you can ask your shelter directly if they need help, or you can look online for organizations near you. you’ll probably have to fill out some kind of form, but they’re always looking for new people and as long as you’re a trustworthy person and have a good home and schedule, they’ll most likely accept your offer to help! you’ll also probably be able to decide what cats/kittens you want to foster, based on your needs and what you’re capable of doing. so don’t worry, you won’t have to solve a case like james’ if you don’t feel comfortable.

Isabelle Marshall it’s super easy! Just look up websites of any rescues or shelters in your area and there should be information about their foster program. You can usually fill out an application to be a foster through their website and they will contact you. I go through 2 rescues and our county’s animal control. They call me when they have kittens to see if I can take them and then the rescue handles everything with the adoption process. Kitten Lady’s website has lists of everything you would need to be prepared for caring for kittens. You don’t have to take special needs or newborns you can let them know what you are comfortable taking. It’s so rewarding!

About 2 months ago, we found a kitten with paralyzed legs. I didn't think he was going to survive the first night we brought him in, but he did. We decided to keep him. At first he had absolutely no movement in his tail or rear legs. His rear legs were nothing but bone, we couldn't feel muscle in them. After exercising him, massaging him, feeding him and loving him, he can freely move his tail and is building muscle in his legs. He can kick, pull his legs up and squeeze his toes. He hasn't stood on his rear legs yet, but he is getting stronger everyday. He bolts around the room, plays with everything and loves to snuggle. I love my little Koda so much. It makes me so happy knowing that we were able to save him and give him a happy life. I love seeing your videos. They are so encouraging as I go through this new journey with my kitten. I wish little James the best. It is amazing how far he has come.

Listening to this really hit home with me and gave me several ideas for dealing with one of my own rescues. Mine is not physically or mentally disabled. But, she was so traumatized from what she went through before I got her that she's still having a hard time getting along with the other cats in the household. So, the main work with her is reteaching her how to socialize with other cats just like she used to as a foster kitten at a friend's house before her original owners took her and dropped her into a different, yet very bad living situation. Anyways, my issue has been trying to not over coddle her in an emotional sense. So, this both reminded me of watching out for that an other things i can do to continue to help her out when it comes to her current living situation. Thanks. ^-^

I teared up, not from pity, but from joy. James is so beautiful and special, I am so glad he has a foster Mom who saw the potential in him. I know not many people wanna take in cases like his and that is what makes you a superhero, you speak for the voiceless and you never give up on an animal unless you absolutely have no other choice. You fight hard for these kittens and that makes you a good role model for young people who want to foster animals. Hannah, I absolutely admire you for all you do for cats and even the other types of animals you've fostered, I would love to do the same one day when I'm able.

So happy and excited to see how well he is doing now. Thanks for your hard work and not giving up on him.I have a Persian that has neurological issues from a previous owner putting cheap dog flea treatment on her. And then she was dumped at the shelter because of her neurologicalissues. I was told that she would have to stay in a cage right beside her litter box that she would never use it otherwise. I brought her home as a Foster and ended up adopting her a month later. I refuse to make her live in apet crate. She goes all the way to the basement to the litter box and can even climb to the top of the cat trees now. She still has a shakiness and uneasiness but she loves to play and doesn't let anything stop her. She is a real purr machine. She is very spoiled and I wouldn't have it any other way

You’re so right about the coddling. It’s tempting to become overprotective, but it’s so much better for the cat to let them be independent! Although not a case like this, I remember cat sitting for a friend a couple of times - the cat was elderly and arthritic, so mobility was very limited. The very first day I had her I felt so bad and would nervously carry her everywhere, lift her up to places every time she cried, etc. But I knew I couldn’t do that while at work, nor was it ideal getting woken up several times in the night to her cries each time she wanted to move. So the next day I placed several chairs, boxes etc (had to make do with what I owned) around the areas she liked to create stairs for her, and made sure she had pathways to go between rooms and get her food, water and litter. She was so much happier the next day! The only cries were the “FEED ME” ones, otherwise it was purrs all round. She slept next to me each night and sat with me everywhere - lots of snuggles and biscuit making. The moment I stopped coddling and adapted my living space a little to allow her independence made her so much happier and more relaxed. I did still spoil her with treats and cuddles though 😂 So glad to see James is doing so well after his health scares!
