We adopted a huge bully breed from the pound and whenever someone comes over she jumps like crazy and gets excited and nips at hands or cloths. We have tried everything. What if nothing works? She also gets the same way when we get ready for walks or sees her leash so the leash seems to make her more excited. I'm at the point where I dread someone coming over. She is extremely friendly there is no aggression just crazy excitement.

Joel, LOVE your videos and all the help you provide, the leash training worked GREAT for my crazy lab but now I need to work on the jumping on guests, question-would the knee method work if I was the one who is doing it rather than the guest? Or does it need to be the person they are actually jumping on?

@@BDTraining I've just found these comments and I've been struggling with the same issue and also jumping on other dog owners in the dog park while off the leash for months. He doesn't do it all the time but if someone's pretty close to him and other dog(s) that play with him and looks at him/them. Can solving the issue on the leash solve that one too? Btw, he doesn't bite, just jumps playfully but he's big Weimaraner and jumping itself is huge problem.

My dog goes into a gated room when we have a visitor. She can still see the front door though. Once people are inside I let her out to say hello. She's nervous and doesn't allow any physical contact. As time goes by and humans are standing talking my dog will sneak up and nip at them. No provocation. She's small so it's only an ankle but it's NOT acceptable. After a clap and HEY from me she is put back behind the gate. What else can I do

Good video. My problem is when walking my lab on leash and we meet people. Most want to pet him and he jumps all over them. Do I ask some unknown person to knee him? I've tried getting the dog to sit before they get close and he usually does but when they get close all bets are off. I guess I can direct my dog to go around these people but then it looks like I'm snubbing someone who wants to be friendly.

Can you do a video or advice about a jumping little dog. Most videos are done with large dogs, even the pull method on the lesh is used on the bigger dogs. Not little dogs. I have a small jack russell and I would be interested to know what the jumping knee kick and the pull lesh to side how they would work as when I flick him round is it with my feet as appose to the knee before I pull lead to side.

Great video! Question, my dog is 6 months old and loves to; -Counter surf -Jump on us and guests -Nip at our arms and/or ankles -Outside he lays down when I try to get him up and goes on his back and it's difficult to lift him up. I'll do this for jumping. Any tips for counter surfing and really bad nippers on arms and ankles? Also for behavior that'd out of control and they won't listen to you?

I have a dog, Shadow who has several issues. He came to my rescue with extreme hyperness, severe separation anxiety, and high positive heartworm. Shadow does this with me, jumping, nipping, etc. Nothing I'm doing is working. I use frozen king's with him but once he sees or even smells me near he gets all worked up and to keep him from staying in that state, I go to him and spend time with him. He will still jump on me, and his mission is to wash my face. He just wants to love you. It's taken a while to get him to sit and stay for 5 seconds. He vibrates with energy and excitement. I've commented on several of your videos regarding Shadow. I've had dogs al of my life, rescued for about 30 years and I've never had a dog that has such extreme issues. He isn't adoptable the way he is. Please help me out with Shadow so he has a chance at a forever home.

Can you make a video on mouthy dogs? I have an estimated ~3 year old rescue who is still super mouthy, and at 75# it's really not okay. Any time you reach down to pat his head, he always turns his head to great your hand with his mouth. Or when he gets really excited, he jumps on you and goes for your arms (doesn't help that family encourages this behavior when they rough house together despite my pleas). I've tried redirecting with toys, but sometimes toys aren't always available. When we go on our walks, I always have to either tell strangers that they can't pet him, or I need to have treats on hand to distract his mouth. Any recommendations??

My husky puppy does that too! I am hyper aware of his future size, so I want to constantly fix the obsessive mouthing. People tell me, “oh he’s just a puppy, puppies do that” - I don’t care! I want him to become a gentle giant, so when I can hear the chomp sounds he makes when he misses my hands/arm, it always concerns me. Mouthing/biting is not ok with me ever, so I find myself trying to correct him as much as I can, but I think I’m failing

My puppy also started this behavior and I got her to stop with: walking into her, body turning and the knee thing (but timing is hard). The walking into them is when you want to do something and they are bothering you, continue your path as if they were not there, if they make it too hard, keep turning your body to other direction, never use your hands to put them away, only legs.

The last time that daughter came to visit and stay in my house I had her walk my then 2 year old Shiba Inu on a leash outside the house. She gave the dog treats when we were in the house and everything seemed ok so I let the dog roam off leash around the house as the dog usually does. Then one day when my daughter and I were sitting on the couch, the dog came into the room and he started sniffing. He came up and sniffed me and then he went to my daughter and sniffed her and then he attacked her. I do not want this to happen when my daughter comes to visit me this year. This happened with a previous house guest who stayed at our house. The dog would be real nice with them for a day and then the next day he would forget that the guest had fed him treats and he would bark and go to attack them. What should I do to prevent this from happening when my daugher or house guests come on over and stay for several days?

This video is helpful but my dog gets super excited every time he sees a person. It doesn't matter if they come into the house or if we are out walking. Right now, I'm managing it. I try to keep distance and/or have him sit/watch me, but if they get close, all bets are off. He has choked himself on a pinch collar because he gets so excited, he goes into this zone where he doesn't hear you at all. He'd not aggressive - just very, very excited. He's a higher drive collie from working lines. He gets about an hour of exercise plus training/play sessions almost every day. He's about a year old and not neutered yet (scheduled for next week actually). The only thing I can think of to do is to train a super-strong sit/stay, but it's like every time he sees a person he has won the lottery. I'm glad he likes people but it makes it very difficult to take him anywhere, and I'd like to do something like agility or tracking to keep his mind engaged, but that's hard to do when he goes into this high state of excitement. Thanks for the help!

This video doesnt really help. Im not good in english and I try my best to explain.. When quests arrive I put my dog to sit and he stays there excited, until visitor has taken his shoes and jacket off. Then I tell he to be free.. Then it starts, mouth first nipping and wont let guest to pet him, just excited nipping. Jumping not so bad anymore tho.. Nipping happens all over the house, not just door. And visitors always pet and try to pet him (and dog gets rewarded for bad behavior).. I try to give instructions like dont give attention to dog, dont pet him if he doesnt sit or jumps etc. They wont listen really and things always goes wrong. Getting dog to his place would work as dog stays out of the way, but doesnt solve the core problem which happens right away again if he is getting petted. My dog is a people loving staffordshirebullterrier, 1 year and few weeks old boy. Never nips or jumps on me.. He however doesnt respect anyone else and is out of control with people. Never agressive, just loves too much. He is good with other dogs tho, just not so much with people. He is socialized to dogs and people from 2months old, and the thing that got him wrong is that people always went crazy with him as he was so cute. Now when he is bigger its not so cute that he has learnt to go crazy with people. Last time I had friend visiting I gave him a fresh bone to chew with and it worked wonders, but also then there was no petting which would have resulted in nipping again.

My pure bred blue nose is exactly the same way. He won't ever jump on me unless prompted to and he hardly mouths me as I have trained him to understand what " no bite" and "gentle" means since I got him at 5 weeks old. Other people spoil him and let him do whatever he wants to and it always sets his training back
