I have so many traumatic events as a child it has for sure affected my adult life
@DocSnipes

Thank you for sharing that. Childhood trauma can have a profound and lasting impact on our adult lives, often shaping how we see ourselves, relate to others, and handle stress. It’s really common for those early experiences to carry over into adulthood in ways that can be challenging, even if we don’t always recognize it at first. What’s important is that you’re acknowledging that connection, which is a big step toward healing. Understanding how those past events have influenced your present life can open the door to finding ways to heal and regain control over your narrative. Whether that’s through therapy, self-reflection, or connecting with supportive communities, there’s hope for growth and relief, even when the past feels overwhelming. Are there specific areas you’re focusing on as you work through this, or is there something you’re looking for support with as you navigate these effects? If you're interested in more tips on the topic this or if you want to explore my video library, you can use my AI: allceus.com/AskDocSnipes. It’s clear that you’re carrying a lot, and being kind to yourself as you explore this is crucial-you deserve to find peace and healing.

I really need help with this. from the age of 9-13 I lost my mom, dad, grandad, brother and uncle. I'm 45 now and still mad, angry and frustrated at myself for not saving any of them. i don't want to lose anymore people in my life so i do whatever it takes to make everyone happy with me, but i've pleased people so much that i don't even know who i am..

Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal part of your journey. The immense losses you experienced at such a young age are incredibly heavy burdens to carry, and it’s understandable that those feelings of grief, anger, and frustration are still with you. It's important to remember that as a child, you weren’t responsible for saving anyone-your feelings are valid, but it's crucial to show yourself compassion and recognize that you did the best you could in a situation no child should have to face. It sounds like you've spent so much time trying to make others happy that it's been hard to focus on your own needs and identity. Reconnecting with your inner child and allowing yourself to grieve and heal is a brave and necessary step. Seeking support from a therapist who specializes in grief or trauma can be incredibly helpful as you navigate these emotions and begin to reclaim your sense of self. You're not alone in this, and it's never too late to start the journey toward healing. Also, I’d be grateful if you were to share what you found most useful from the video. Thank you so much for the video, Dr. Snipes. Are there books on how to enhance children’s self-esteem? I searched on Amazon with that term but didn’t find many results.

You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. For books on enhancing children’s self-esteem, I recommend trying terms like "child self-esteem development," "boosting kids' confidence," or "child self-worth" in your search. You can try reading “The Self-Esteem Workbook for Kids" by Lisa M. Schab and "The Whole-Brain Child" by Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. Also, please feel free to share what you found most useful from the video and, if you're interested in learning more about enhancing children’s self esteem, tips and tools on how to do that or want to explore my video library, you can use my AI: allceus.com/AskDocSnipes.

I'm really sorry to hear about your distressing experience and the current challenges you're facing. It’s understandable that the memory of getting lost as a child is resurfacing now, especially with the stress of travel and flight cancellations. Here are a few things you can do to help calm yourself while you wait: 1. Grounding Exercises: • 5-4-3-2-1 Technique: Identify five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. This exercise helps anchor you to the present moment. • Sensory Focus: Carry something with different textures, like a smooth stone or a piece of fabric, and focus on how it feels. This tactile sensation can help ground you. 2. Deep Breathing: • Box Breathing: Inhale for four seconds, hold for four seconds, exhale for four seconds, and hold the breath again for four seconds. Repeat several times. • Diaphragmatic Breathing: Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. Breathe in deeply through your nose, ensuring your abdomen rises more than your chest. Exhale slowly through pursed lips. 3. Stay Connected: • Video Calls: If possible, make a video call to a friend or family member. Seeing a familiar face can be more comforting than just hearing a voice. • Texting or Messaging: If a call isn’t possible, exchange messages with loved ones. Sometimes writing down your feelings can also help reduce anxiety. 4. Positive Distractions: • Reading: Bring a favorite book or download an e-book or audiobook. Immersing yourself in a story can provide a temporary escape from anxiety. • Music or Podcasts: Create a playlist of calming music or find a podcast that interests you. Listening to something engaging can shift your focus away from the stress. • Mindfulness Apps: Consider using mindfulness or meditation apps like Headspace or Calm. These apps often have guided sessions specifically designed to reduce anxiety. 5. Seek Support: • Airport Staff: Approach airport staff or a help desk and explain your situation. They may be able to provide information on quiet areas, lounges, or support services available at the airport. • Airport Lounges: If you have access to an airport lounge, it can offer a more comfortable and quieter environment. Some lounges also provide amenities like showers, snacks, and private spaces to rest. • Emergency Numbers: Have a list of emergency contacts and local emergency numbers in case you need immediate assistance. Additionally, keep a small travel kit with comforting items like a favorite snack, a stress ball, or a small photo of loved ones. These can provide immediate comfort when anxiety spikes. Remember, you are strong and have the resilience to handle this situation. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these tips. Did you find them helpful? Are there any other strategies that have worked well for you in similar situations? If you're interested in learning more about the inner child, trauma or want to explore my video library, you can use my AI: allceus.com/AskDocSnipes. Safe travels!

How do we, as adults, recognize and fulfill our needs ?. I don’t feel like I am the one who has to fulfill my needs, although cognitively I know I am responsible for doing
@DocSnipes
@DocSnipes 2 ай бұрын
Recognizing and fulfilling our needs as adults can be challenging, especially when we feel like we shouldn't be the ones responsible for it. Here are some steps and insights to help you navigate this process: Understanding the Importance of Recognizing Needs 1. Acknowledge Your Needs: Many adults struggle with recognizing their needs because they were taught that their needs were unimportant during childhood. It's crucial to start acknowledging that your needs are valid and important. 2. Self-Worth and Self-Efficacy: Developing self-worth and self-efficacy is essential. This involves separating what you can control from what you can't and forgiving yourself for past mistakes. Steps to Recognize and Fulfill Your Needs 1. Mindfulness and Self-Reflection: Begin by being mindful of your emotions and physical sensations. Reflect on what you need in different situations, whether it's emotional support, rest, or social interaction. 2. Articulate Your Needs: Practice articulating your needs clearly. This can be challenging if you have an anxious attachment style, but it's important to communicate your needs to others instead of expecting them to guess. 3. Set Boundaries: Learn to set healthy boundaries. This involves being assertive about your needs and understanding that it's okay to say no or ask for what you need. Overcoming Barriers 1. Addressing Guilt and Shame: Many people feel guilt or shame when they try to meet their needs, especially if they were criticized or unsupported in the past. It's important to challenge these feelings and reinforce the belief that it's your basic right to meet your needs in a healthy and respectful manner. 2. Reparenting the Inner Child: For those who grew up in environments where their needs were neglected, it can be helpful to reparent the inner child. This involves connecting with your inner child and providing the support and validation you didn't receive as a child. Practical Tips 1. Set SMART Goals: Identify what you want to achieve and set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals to increase your self-efficacy. 2. Seek Support: Build a support network of friends, family, or professionals who can provide encouragement and feedback. Healthy adult attachments can help you handle overwhelming feelings and support your goals. By following these steps and insights, you can start to recognize and fulfill your needs more effectively, leading to a healthier and more balanced life. Please let me know if you find this information helpful and, also, for more tips and tools on fulfilling your needs, please don’t hesitate to use my AI: allceus.com/AskDocSnipes.

I know you didn’t ask me, but I’ll offer my two cents, if you don’t mind. As Doc Snipes laid out for you, there are sensible and practical ways to work toward meeting our needs in human strength, resources, and relationships. But I believe the deepest needs of our hearts, the ultimate longings of our souls, can only be met by our Creator. I think you’ve tapped into a reality that there is a level of need that we are incapable of satisfying. We need an outside agent to act. Jesus offers “living water” and promises that those who drink of it will never thirst again. Grace and peace to you. 🙏

I love the scrapbook suggestion! I sort of did that before I knew about our inner child. I wrote as many happy, or pleasant memories of my and my siblings childhood. I sent a copy to each of 7 siblings with a note that said we can focus on these memories instead of all the abuse and trauma we endured.. I'm going to pull out that list and recompose and add to it for Little Marly's scrapbook.
