Devvon, thank you for reminding me about this trick. I wanted to do it on a bigger scale and better gear, but didn't realize I could do it regardless of interface and it would sound great either way. I would challenge you to do that same technique before mastering to see different results. I once saw the same technique but the guy took his fully mixed song and pumped it into API preamps, then back to his computer, then he mastered that new audio.

Your hand movements always pissed me off and your exaggerated expressions but I apologize. You’re still in the digital realm so, no. What is being demonstrated here, is going out the digital environment (your DAW) through analogue gear, such as a mixer or summing box, back into your DAW. But, I have an Apollo Twin also, so I’m going to see if it can be done tracking out the DAW, then through Console app using unison technology. (Kinda not the same displayed here, as still all digital, I shall see...)

Hope to hear back! Thanks!!

Yo Devvon - bro what's your opinion on clipping ITB - like - have you tried the SIR audio tools STANDARD CLIP? (pretty cheap actually for a plugin with that quality) and it would be possible with the plugin to create the same amount of clipping because you can control the clipping point + the gain before and after that point + the softness of the clipping etc. Maybe u wanna do a comparison if it actually sounds worse oversampled than the interface clipping. Your opinion would be nice to hear on this.

@blankcheckguy69
@blankcheckguy69 5 жыл бұрын
A LiL Cee Style I have an Element 24 too and Yes, you can. Just route the XLR connection from your speakers to your Analog 1&2 inputs and then select input 1-2 as a stereo input in your DAW. Set your input gain accordingly (I found 32-38 to be a decent range for the mix I was working with). Lastly, boost the input channel volume slightly in your DAW’s mixer (1.5-2.5db) and you should be good. Make sure your output gain is also set at a reasonable volume so you arent over-clipping.

So essentially you're using the pre amp circuitry inside your your interface to give you the analog saturation, I get that. This doesn't apply to me because I'm actually bypassing the pre amp in my Duet interface and using my great river pre amp, but what about for beginners using something like a focusrite 2i2 that's both a converter and pre amp, will they still see any type saturation gain from their interfaces? If I'm thinking correctly you need an interface/pre amp with multiple inputs & outputs to be able to do this type of routing. Love your videos man, I've even implemented some of your techniques in my own mixing chain. I also do mixing tutorials on my KZbin channel check it out, and keep up the dope work👌🏾
@evighvitveis
@evighvitveis 5 жыл бұрын
He's actually using the converter as a softclipper, so it's not the preamps doing the work. A problem that can occur with the cheaper interfaces are unpleasant distortion due to the quality of components.

Just route the desired track from you DAW to Line Outputs 3-4 (stereo track). Then from the back of the interface, take two TRS cables and plug them into Line 1-2 and I guess you increase the faders on Console to 2 dB. I just got one and as soon as I get a couple of cables to try it out then I'll do it too. Bonus on the sound quality if you use the Unison Technology and print it for a unique sound.

Apogee says so, they suggest turning on the soft limiting function to prevent digital clipping, and don't overdo it! :)

I used to record decent on a USB mixer. Said I would never switch because every interface was so damn low and weak, couldn't blast the volume (focusrite 2i2) til I got an Audient id14.. its amazing

The Audient iD4 is a steal, smaller than the iD14 and only 1 mic input, so have that in mind. Their preamps are great though! 👍

nice bro one of the best ways it using harmonic plugins on instruments using parallel compression and mixing with gain staging rather than purposely clipping to get loud on the master chain compression and tape machines can easily give you great volume so the best practice is gain staging rather than focusing on loud distorted mix than won't sound professional

pristine productions nah man, analog clipping as he suggests sounds professional, i promise. gain staging is highly important during mixing, but he talkin bout pushing a final master even further

@@blankcheckguy69 yes if its just loud master then it will take more tham just clipping stuff like tune and tape will be needed in order to get the big master sound like the pros els you might just get a loud thin master if is just volume your after amd not a proper dynamic mix thats why gainstage is highly important the loundness cimes form the mix not jus master chain
