I once saw the same technique but the guy took his fully mixed song and pumped it into API preamps, then back to his computer, then he mastered that new audio.

You’re still in the digital realm so, no. What is being demonstrated here, is going out the digital environment (your DAW) through analogue gear, such as a mixer or summing box, back into your DAW. But, I have an Apollo Twin also, so I’m going to see if it can be done tracking out the DAW, then through Console app using unison technology. (Kinda not the same displayed here, as still all digital, I shall see...)

Yo Devvon - bro what's your opinion on clipping ITB - like - have you tried the SIR audio tools STANDARD CLIP? (pretty cheap actually for a plugin with that quality) and it would be possible with the plugin to create the same amount of clipping because you can control the clipping point + the gain before and after that point + the softness of the clipping etc. Maybe u wanna do a comparison if it actually sounds worse oversampled than the interface clipping. Your opinion would be nice to hear on this.

Can you do this trick on a 2 input and 2 main output interface as I’m using the Element 24?

A LiL Cee Style I have an Element 24 too and Yes, you can. Just route the XLR connection from your speakers to your Analog 1&2 inputs and then select input 1-2 as a stereo input in your DAW. Set your input gain accordingly (I found 32-38 to be a decent range for the mix I was working with). Lastly, boost the input channel volume slightly in your DAW’s mixer (1.5-2.5db) and you should be good. Make sure your output gain is also set at a reasonable volume so you arent over-clipping.

So essentially you're using the pre amp circuitry inside your your interface to give you the analog saturation, I get that. This doesn't apply to me because I'm actually bypassing the pre amp in my Duet interface and using my great river pre amp, but what about for beginners using something like a focusrite 2i2 that's both a converter and pre amp, will they still see any type saturation gain from their interfaces? If I'm thinking correctly you need an interface/pre amp with multiple inputs & outputs to be able to do this type of routing. Love your videos man, I've even implemented some of your techniques in my own mixing chain. I also do mixing tutorials on my KZbin channel check it out, and keep up the dope work👌🏾
@evighvitveis5 жыл бұрын
He's actually using the converter as a softclipper, so it's not the preamps doing the work. A problem that can occur with the cheaper interfaces are unpleasant distortion due to the quality of components.
