Thank you Devvon for your insight full review! I was wondering how does this work with hi percussion ( hats, cymbals,…) because obviously J didn’t rout his hats on his drum buss, so the NLS and drum buss was only effecting kick and snare. In the beginning of using his chain I was routing everything and I realize the hats was so harsh. So I’m wondering how does it Orion compare to his original chains.

Were sadly getting to a point where there is no magic in making music. Everything is done for you. This is creating a boring soulless style of music. Why? because it was the tedious processes, the brain wrangling ideas that we stumbled across unexpectantly; that made hits from pure original hard work and late night mixing in an unorthodox methods which created musical genres. Now beat makers can use a beat they didn't make or mix and practically AI everything else. At some point our dependance on bells and whistles will be our undoing. If you think music is better now you're probably under 30 years old. I don't listen to most of the stuff the new school been making because it all sounds alike. The acts look alike. The beats are the same the subject matter is the same. This plug in craze has hurt our creativity. Not saying its not nice to have a few toys. But enough is enough. Not buying anymore plugins that do what I already been doing with other means. If you want to make money start selling plug ins. That's what the industry has secretly been pushing. Why sell a record at $15 when you can sell a million copies of Orion at a couple hundred bucks. Sheeeeesh!!!

You’re right, there’s a lot of stuff being done for people so they don’t learn how to achieve the ‘sound’ that they’re looking for, they just turn in a plugin or two and it does it for them. Fortunately for me, when I started learning to mix and produce these plugins simply didn’t exist. I haD to learn how to mix because there was no other way. It’s similar to sampling. I had to learn how to actually play instruments because there was no Splice to basically do it for you, so once all of these great tools became available, I was able to use them to enhance my capabilities as opposed to using them to cover up a lack of capability. I loVe all of these great tools. So many great production tools being available keeps me running home daily to crack open my kiLLer dual-sync PC (two PCs in simultaneous use) system and get to woRk! Just snother lazy plugin for wannabes that doesnt even have attack or release times or a true variable hi pass . Just 2 options for each wtf is that. The saturation only has 3 modes. No control over even or odd harmonics. Just a bunch of nonsense words instead of real parameters. Loud and grit wtf is this. Why would i need a parallel sub on my drum bus. Where is even the cut off point for the sub or low? Bro atleast ssl drumstrip has the transient processor with delta mode. And its got the legendary lmc compressor on it with parallel mix knob. It actually makes sense and you can saturate lows and highs separately. It obliterates this thing
@SPD87327Ай бұрын
Uhh.. it was designed that way for workflow. Quick easy words to know what does what, you do those things boom done. Drums sound good and you save time mixing. But ''lazy plugin'' for wannabes? Dude calm down. How about you go mix on an ssl like a REAL engineer! Then you'll get all the grammys!!
@NiME9600Ай бұрын
if you work on a few songs different songs everyday, it's not "lazy" to load/use 1 plugin instead of 5 ... it's efficient. If you get 80% of the sound with 20% of the work, it's well worth it and not lazy at all. Most of us don't get paid 1k per mix and are able to try 3 differtent chains until stuff works ... some people also have other things to do :D Maybe it'll only work on 50% of the songs but you'll still save a lot of time

@@fcmas True, but J. is paid very well for the time he puts in. Most engineers are not and most clients don't care about the final 10% of polish because they can't even hear it. They are happy that they don't have to pay 2k for a mix because most artist won't make the money back so easily. The majority of artists are small artist that go into small studios (if at all) and have a tight budget for the mix. I think It's ok to save 50% of your time and CPU usage in that case
