Best 4 Season review i have found. FYI - i have read people use the snakeskins for the fly alone as the fly is often wet and then they drape those outside their pack if hiking with them. Also - you can buy the hammock alone without the fly for less money than with the fly. Works well if you already have a fly you like.

Thank you for watching and that is a good point about using the snakeskins for the fly. I am unsure if you can buy the four-season without the fly. I just did a surprisingly cold overnight in my explorer asym with just an inflatable mat underneath me.

Even though this was a 4 yr old video, you just educated me on the use of those ridgeline hooks at either end! Ugh, I only recently started hammock camping and was just using those hooks to hang a couple tiny stuff sacks. I have used this the other night in a storm with a hex fly, big agnes sleeping bag and a thermarest trail pro sleeping pad and I think the sleeping pad was too much for me. I could've stayed comfortable without it since the hammock has that inner pad already. and although I first got the 4 season hammock into a xxl snakeskin, it was too tight to flex and fit in anything else so I took it back out of the snake skin, put the hammock in its original stuff sack and used the xxl snake skins for my hex fly which didnt fit that well in the xl snake skins. Still tuning my setup but this video helped me learn something new so thank you!

Hi, I was wondering your height and weight. I'm 6 ft 2, 190 lbs and have the Expedition. It's a bit too cramped for me and the pad moves alot as it's just a single layer, so i find it cold. I live up north in Canada, we need insulation here.. I can't really sleep more than four hours. I'm tempted to try Hennessy"s larger one or try a different brand altogether like an 11 ft wide body gathered end from Dutch or somthing like that. It's a tough decision sight unseen that's forsure. Thanks.

I'm 5'9 and about 190 lbs. I don't feel cramped in the hammock but I have had my pads slide around underneath me. The "Double Bubble" pad that Hennessy makes has connection points that keep it in place though. That might be a solution for you. Best of luck!

A word of caution. Do not take out the insulation mat and pack separately from the hammock if you go directly into very cold weather camping. You may well get mild hypothermia by the time you get the mat back in the correct position without twists. If you don't believe me then try it, even indoors.

I still don't understand how this is any different from their other double layer hammocks - for example the deep jungle xl? It seems to me the only difference is that this comes with an included open cell foam pad from the supershelter? Am I missing something?

it's the only double layer hammock that I've ever tried. The mat is nice though.

Would love an update/review after doing an overnighter in colder weather. Would the HexFly fit into the stuff sack? And what about fitting everything into the stuff sack if using snake skins? (Don't know if you use those normally).

I’ll try to put the hex fly in the stuff sack but it’s pretty big and I haven’t tried the snakeskins on the four season but I will and I’ll post an update video. Thanks for the suggestions!

@@pmn8074 hi, I did a colder overnight in the hammock this past weekend but it wasn't that cold. It got down to the high 30's. I used a REI travel sack instead of a full sleeping bag to simulate a colder night. I was great except for my feet. I actually put on a second pair of socks and still woke up a few times because of it. Next time I'm going to make sure that I have some especially thick socks or some other solution for my feet. I did not even try the snake skins on the 4-season because of the built in pad (I do use them on my other Hennessy Hammocks and believe that they are one of the most innovative things that I have ever seen). It would be difficult to fit the hex fly in the stuff sack with the 4 season. I keep my Hex fly in it's own bag usually because I may choose to set it up by itself from time to time, especially if I was using it with the 4 season and I had to set it up in the rain without the protection of the snakeskins.

TheNinjaEveryDay Thank you so much for testing it out. Danish winters are not incredibly cold, so it sounds like this would be the perfect hammock. I thought I had seen/read somewhere that the 4 Season could fit into their snake skins (with the pad) but maybe I was wrong.... Or it was wishful thinking.

Thanks a lot for the Video and for sharing your thoughts and experience. Up to now, I don´t own a Hennessy hammock, but I´m looking forward to get one. Yet, I´m not sure which one I should buy: the Jungle Explorer XL Zip (with additional insulation in cold nights) or the 4Season Explorer XL Zip. Do you know whether you lay flat in both of them? Can you compare the overall sleeping comfort? Do you recommend upgrading the tarp to the "Hex Fly" model or is it better to buy it in addition? Sorry for my not really perfect english and thanks a lot in advance for answering my questions, Paul from Germany

anotherpaul sure, first, thanks for watching! My favorite of all of them is my side zip expedition a-sym. I pair that with the radiant double bubble pad and it’s light and quick to set up. I don’t feel perfectly flat in my hammocks but flat enough that I can sleep on my side. And I definitely like the hex-fly. It gives me a lot more room to cook under, change clothes, and store gear. 🦖

Hello Regarding the size - this will depend on how tall you are. If you are 5ft 10inches or shorter I would recommend a ten foot hammock (I think most of the Hennessy hammocks are ten foot. If you are over 5 foot 10 inches I would recommend going with an 11 foot hammock (I am not sure Hennessy has one this length but you can check on their web site). If Hennessy does not have an 11 foot available I would recommend the Dream Hammock Sparrow or Dream Hammock Darien at 11 foot. I would recommend the double bottom regardless which brand you chose - this allows for cheaper insulation options vs having to buy an under quilt. Regarding the tarp - I would recommend the hex at minimum (the asymmetric tarp coverage is questionable. I have actually gone a "winter" type that has 4 doors and is good for any season or weather. It is a little heavier but good option if you only want to invest in one tarp.
