Only accept retcons that have enough thought behind them that they don't destroy the rest of it. A good example is the War Doctor in Doctor Who; whilst he was never brought up before the 50th anniversary, the show had never definitively stated _which_ Doctor had fought in the Time War, with the audience assuming it was either the Eighth or Ninth Doctors. Even then, the writers took the time to explain that the reason the War Doctor hadn't been mentioned was because the Doctor wanted to distance himself as much as possible from the actions he took during the War. Retcons aren't bad on their own, but the issue comes from writers not putting in the effort to make them fit the already-established lore.

Well said, thats why I hate when anything gets too popular and I am a firm advocate for gatekeeping. Once its becomes popular is when the dregs show up and ruin everything because they are just jumping on the bandwagon of whatever is getting attention at the moment and they abandon it as soon as something new gets attention. True fans who have love and passion for a certain thing are what makes it great and as soon as the sheep herd shows up everything goes to shit. I loved scifi and fantasy stuff like starwars, lord of the rings, DnD, WH40K and all that jazz even when it wasn't cool and during the days when you got ostracized for being a nerd and trust me all the "cool kids" made sure to let me know that I wasn't going to be allowed to be different without paying a high price for it but since I had a spine and a mind of my own I didn't back down and conform to their idea of cool and guess what? Turns out I was into all the "cool stuff" long before game of thrones made swords and armor cool. I love seeing how hobbies like archery, knife and axe throwing and sword fighting and blacksmithing are just so popular nowadays and all the assholes who criticized people like me are sooooooo interested in all this stuff now, because its now cool and every sheep who literally got into a hobby because Jason Mamoa throws axes as a hobby and now all the "Alpha males" put down their footballs and took a break from getting sweaty and hugging each other long enough to do "alpha male shit". I mean just look at PC gaming: pro and semi-pro players are fun to watch and thus promote your game, however as a targeted customer base alone it's financially not feasible since they make a small percentage of the scene as a whole. Going the route as out layed by the former Epic executive would mean to first disenfranchise the broader baseline, which you then would have to re-engage with while alienating the unwanted 'modern audience' in the meantime. Game's workshop, made a deal with the devil, and now they have pay the price. Honestly, they should of walked, before the demands got spicy, now it's a lose lose situation. If the rumors are true, then GW really tried to find the less of two evils, but they got lazy. To make a movie, you need to upfront a large sum of cash, and the connections to find a movie studio that would be willing to take on the job. What they should of done what other productions have done, establish those connections themselves, fork the money through a bank, and, more importantly, start off small. Taking money from a bank adds risk, so make an Arcane like animated show, smaller cost, then when they come to the streaming services, offer the deal, not to produce but publicize their work. Show slaps, five stars, sales go up, then instead of going amazon, who can threaten your other market sales (Models/Tabletop) go to Netflix for a live action show. Sure it wont have the world's piggy bank thrown at it, but in this current world, you have to take risks and compromises if you want to make something truly your own. All these companies are clamoring for something else to burn to the ground. And to any upcoming IP creator, DON'T LET IT BE YOU.
