One of the most under appreciated and over looked bands in music history, genius band!

+Neuro Demonio you're rignt. They just are underknown :) Don't forget Univers Zero.

Nah, I don't think so. They're pretty much the poster child of avant-rock/avant-prog. They are pretty known for how extreme their music is.

Unfortunately that genius leaves many people behind. Like me for example. I can appreciate the musicanship, but it's too caotic for my own tastes.

I was led to this video through a footnote in the recently published book Henry Cow: The World Is a Problem--an interesting read for Cow fans, as well as nearly anyone who's interested in avant music and related philosophies.

(7:42) "you have 2 choices. You trust no one and you remain an outsider, or you take a chance to see what it's like. For a long time, we didn't want to compromise. And we didn't." Q: "How did you make a living" (laughs) a:"We didn't. We were starving." "How did we live? Just about." I apologize, that's the best I can do.

""Henry Cow is recording a disc, their first one after years of existence." An odd thing to say as this purportedly from November '73, Leg End was already recorded. This is the Greasy Truckers' session, as indicated by the snatch of Sweet Heart of Mine just before the interview segment.
@gidouille10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is the Manor. HC went on last at the Greasy Trucker's Dingwall's Dancehall show, and only got in a ten minute set before closing so they went into the Manor for a day and laid down what became their side of the compilation.

Beginning : "Henry Cow is recording a disc, their first one after years of existence. There is some tension in the air, cos each of the 5 musicians have a strong character, and it doesn't pass smoothly." interview (I resume) q:Why playing for so long without doing a record ? a:we tried before, we decided against, we didn't for 1 year and half and then we did. // in business record, it can be very bad but maybe virgin is different. /(to be continued)

6:31 (is it fred frith ? I think it's him) Sometimes bands sign contract without being aware of the risks.// (6:50) records companies can convert what you do in what they want to. // (7:00) they try to change the band's organisation, or to impose their choice for a singer, stuff like that." q:"did you make this record because you found the right company ?" (7:29) "we wanted to keep a record of what we did during all this years. That said, we wouldn't have sign with anyone else." (tobecontinued)

LE groupe de progressive (avec VdGG, bien sûr). Ce type de démarche semble faire cruellement défaut actuellement. Ce genre de créativité ce retrouve peut-être dans certains groupes de metal prog. En tous cas, merci pour le post (déjà ancien)

they look like fender precision bass pickups - on a hand made pick guard maybe? Fred knows. This vid doesn't show his 335 with the extra pickup at the 'other' end of the neck. I was lucky to see 3 jams he had in/around Carnaby St with Lol Coxhill. I wish that had been recorded.
