Henry VIII's FIERCE coastal fortification!

Between 1539 and 1547, King Henry VIII ordered a series of costal forts to be built known as Device Fort's. These artillery fortifications were created to deter enemy invasion, particularly from the French and Spanish.
Henry had upset a lot of European powerhouses by splitting from his first wife Catherine of Aragon and the Catholic church and was becoming increasingly concerned about the strength of the defences along the south coast of England.
Hurst Castle is a fantastic example of one of these device forts, and I invite you to join me as I explore this Henrician castle!

It was another pleasant walk Nic, a beautiful castle in an even more beautiful setting. It seemed like a nice clear but cold day, but with a cup of tea and the heater on 21 it wasn't too bad, until the next walk in the always beautiful UK. 💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻
