Wonderful....what a beautiful ruin, I love the way they built those arched ceilings. Once again Nic, fantastically well presented with great history. Love em.

Another triumph, Nic! 👏 I think I would’ve been the same as you with that woman in the coat… and that photo looked pretty similar to what you captured anyway, so maybe it just captured the back of another visitor? 🤔 always look forward to your videos, keep ‘em coming! 🖤🖤

Nic what an awesome video. Just discovered your channel and when i saw this video i had to watch. I grew up in Netley and the Abbey (and the church for school harvest days) was an old haunt. There is some amazing 18th century graffiti in that section that appears fenced off. It really is a fun and serene place to visit, but also very spooky at night. Now living in Australia so this was a trip down memory lane! Thank you

Thanks for that delightful video, Nic😊 Netley Abbey must have been really something in years gone by. What a pity you couldn't get into the church. The stonework looked very clean and beautiful on the outside. I would imagine the interior would be similar. Was the lytch gate made of stone with timber fillings?

I like Netley since it is nice compact. Fountains Abbey is totally mind warping in scale and architecture.

I see a lot of historic graffiti on my travels. I was recently looking round angel meadow manchesters most notorious victorian slums and noticed names carved into a bridge nearby and one of them is hirridge who was one of the areas more well known criminals and him and his gang used to hang about near the bridge. This also led us to manchesters southern cemetery where the famouse detective jerome comanada is burried along with lowry the angel of the meadow and some other famous people. Lowry is another link to angel meadow as he painted some of his paintings round there and we had a trip to Berwick-upon-Tweed which was lowrys favourite place to holiday and he painted a few scenes from the area also we had to visit lindisfarne 😊

What a beautiful ruin, if I had somewhere a box with millions of pounds, I would buy the ruin and restore it and turn it into a house again, but unfortunately I don't have that much money so it will always remain a ruin. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There is so much more to the Abbey that people don't know about. The Sacristy was in fact the Mortuary Chapel, with the Lady Chapel next to it. The Sacristy was upstairs ybt the Redorter. There are numerous tunnels under the abbey, one leads to Netley Castle over the road, another to the nursing home in Fountains Lane, both are blocked up. There is a blocked up passage on site. King Henry's foundation stone is there if you know where to look. There was a moat around part of it. The "Abbot's" house was referred to as his house and a dungeon. The fish ponds where the monks use to fish are still there, but you have to go up a privated road to access them. Sadly the abbey is becoming subject to vandalism, the murals in the Mortuary Chapel and the Chapter house still can be seen.

The weirdest thing about “the black monk” is that the Cistercians who built and lived at Netley wore white habits. Was he lost? On holiday? ;)

The Ghost monk is upset since the church he was part of promised him heaven and he only got stuck in hell. If you give us your tithes and service we will promise you something that will never be delivered. Thats man made organized religion.
