The housing estate used to be the Yarwoods boat building yard. The railway type signals were installed after nationalisation in 1948. The large lock was built in the late 1880's to take a steamer with three dumb flats in tow, carrying 1,000 tons between them. The swing bridge gives access to a dry dock and opened in 2010,replacing one dating from 1888.

Great video again Henry! The viaduct/ Hunt's Lock, just behind you is Sir John Deanes College/ used to be Grammar School, where my interest in trains began, many years ago, watching, mainly 25's and 40's with the ICI hoppers! Also ,I have a couple of friends that run locos at Blakemere.

Thank you for watching Phil and glad you enjoyed it. Taking of trains passing schools you reminded me when I was at school from some classrooms we could see the railway and I'd have the freight train times written down. After a while I noticed one of the teachers would walk past my desk glance at the times and then look out for the trains himself!

The slipway carriages were once under cover, built in 1958, and part of the British Waterways north west fleet repair yard.

Nice video as usual, Henry. The Leftwich Viaduct on the Mid Cheshire Line also crosses the River Dane, as well as the Weaver and the Weaver Navigation. Towards the end of your visit to Northwich we caught a glimpse of the Dock Road Pumping Station, which is occasionally open to the public and we visited a few years ago, see here: vinchad.blogspot.com/2013/04/dock-road-pumping-station-northwich.html Nice to see the extension in progress at the miniature railway site. I have driven around that site both on the 7.25 inch and 5 inch raised lines. Good to see the 'big' ground level line will be 5 inch as well as 7.25 - I must take my 'Lindow' loco down there and have a run round!

I put in an AV system at the Salt Museum I know the area well, knowing a model railway was their was a surprise. Northwich had a ship building yard Yarwood & Sons, not just barges but ships. The Marsh locks facilitated getting vessels to the Manchester ship canal. Yarwood & Sons would build support vessels and tugs for the Royal Navy in both WW1 & WW2.

@@HenrysAdventures your welcome, keep up the good work. I myself am planning a trip to see a pristine 1897, Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia 2-6-2..... at Pant Station, Merthyr Tydfil, Mid Glamorgan. It's a bit closer than the US :) The Blue saddle tank loco at Urmston is not an Austrian U Series by the way, as I said a few days ago. It could...could actually be Ukranian it looks like the same frame. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fouzk5mcbtyVrpI I'm modeling the log wagons in HOe for my own small layout, the rolling stock is soooooo expensive.
