Is it weird that after hearing this I can only imagine it in place of the original? Like it honestly sounds like this is what was intended originally.

This is amazing! But on a kind of unrelated note... I kind of have a hard time accepting this song for what it is. That's because it makes me think of elevator music, because Bossa Nova is somehow peak elevator music and I listen to bossa and I *feel* as if I was waiting in an elevator for a moment. I want to remember the waves, beaches and calm sunny days, the safe bubble in time and space created by chilling in a tropical space, leaving all pressing matters to another time, the thing that the Bossa Nova genre was partly inspired by - I live in Brazil damn it, I lived that so much! - but the first thing I do instead is to imagine myself riding an elevator. It is mildly infuriating to say the least.
