Also for people with long hair, I would say it’s advisable to tie it up in a bun or something n make sure nothing is hanging past the bar. This would prevent any hair getting caught while ditching the bar leading to accidents.

Saw a woman doing squats at the gym. It was very slow, almost no one there. Just her, me and like 3 others. She wasn't trying to get a squatter. She collapsed until the bar, 400lbs crashed down onto her neck and slammed her head into the ground. When the ambulance showed up she was in critical condition and needed rushed to the hospital. From what I heard from the talk around the gym... she barely lived because of the trauma to her brain. Don't ego lift and please just ask for a spotter. I'd rather help lift a bar off you than watch you smash your skull into the ground and see blood pool out from your head. Very gruesome.

You said it, 100% in agreement. The weight could fall the wrong way and the lifter may end up getting back surgery. I use to bench press with 250 pounds and no spotter. One day, while lifting, I was unable to put it back on the hooks. I tilted my bar and plates rolled off. I pledged never to repeat this. Now, I do high reps with lower weight.

Squat in the rack if you don't have a spotter don't look down at floor keep your head up your feet little wider then shoulders and go to parallel depth and push hard out of the hole. Also the bar was to high on back shoulders that will make you pull forward. Just start out with the bar and get your form down then slowly work up to 135. You got this, good luck Yong lady.

This safety move can sometimes be a matter of life or death if you’re going very heavy. Your life is more important than your ego. A lot of accidents also happen because people try to still "finish" the list even if technic is already om the floor.

Also make sure to use large weights so there is room between the bar and the ground for your ankles to go if they end up under the bar

Think of it like a spring bending and losing its grip. It flings forward, you are the spring and the bar is the load that bends the spring. Save the spring, save yourself

i always say this to newbies, if you're gym does not have those barbell safety catcher thingys, just find the heaviest dumbell you can find and do goblet squats with more sets and reps instead of risking it

Drop & jump…did that with 8 plates 4 on each side @ 15 years old. I can still feel the feeling of that bar rolling off my back lmao I don’t squat/deadlift anymore but glad I got taught this early on

Use a squat rack with safety bars. Odds are when you miss a squat you will be too far forward to dump the weight backwards.

She went too low the first time. Do not go below the point where your thighs are horizontal. Also, why were there no safety bars on the sides of the squat rack?

I've had to do this twice, I only ever practiced drop the bar off my back a single time but it was well worth it. It's a pretty easy move to make, don't be one of the knuckle draggers who try to dump it off the front it's literally akin to suicide. I don't have safety racks and have never used them much. If you workout by yourself study about bailing out of a lift. Things such as not using clamps when bench pressing so you can dump the plates can save your life. Personally I use heavy ass dumbbells for anything I can which is the easiest thing to dump and it's worth considering to buy you some adjustables if you have a home gym.
