Saw a woman doing squats at the gym. It was very slow, almost no one there. Just her, me and like 3 others. She wasn't trying to get a squatter. She collapsed until the bar, 400lbs crashed down onto her neck and slammed her head into the ground. When the ambulance showed up she was in critical condition and needed rushed to the hospital. From what I heard from the talk around the gym... she barely lived because of the trauma to her brain. Don't ego lift and please just ask for a spotter. I'd rather help lift a bar off you than watch you smash your skull into the ground and see blood pool out from your head. Very gruesome.

You said it, 100% in agreement. The weight could fall the wrong way and the lifter may end up getting back surgery. I use to bench press with 250 pounds and no spotter. One day, while lifting, I was unable to put it back on the hooks. I tilted my bar and plates rolled off. I pledged never to repeat this. Now, I do high reps with lower weight.

I've had to do this twice, I only ever practiced drop the bar off my back a single time but it was well worth it. It's a pretty easy move to make, don't be one of the knuckle draggers who try to dump it off the front it's literally akin to suicide. I don't have safety racks and have never used them much. If you workout by yourself study about bailing out of a lift. Things such as not using clamps when bench pressing so you can dump the plates can save your life. Personally I use heavy ass dumbbells for anything I can which is the easiest thing to dump and it's worth considering to buy you some adjustables if you have a home gym.
