This was recorded when Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old - she arranged it, chose black and white to enhance the mood, told the band how she wanted it played via note at beginning of the session (the band called her The Boss) - she is now 15 - do yourself and your followers a HUGE favor and research and play her often - she is my favorite of all time and I am 72. She first sang Whitney Houston at 18 months with a toy mic - her Mom recorded the event. Love your channel!

The look on their faces when Angelina starts singing,That's the look I came to see, happen to everyone...lol. "She's just a kid". A kid who sings like an old time Jazz singer. Btw song is by Screamin Jay Hawkins in 1956, and she was 9 in this vid. The candle she's holding at the start is Screamin Jay...and this is her tribute to Screamin Jay, she did it like he did it. I have watched this video thousands of times. And english is one of many languages she speaks, she's from Norway...she won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7, you guys should listen to her audition then.

She did it like his original version, but Screaming Jay did an insane remake in 1956 I believe, that totally changed the presentation and meaning of the song (in a documentary I saw, he was listed as one of the founders of Goth music based on how he changed both his image and usage of props...fascinating stuff). She was amazing, but you definitely need to take a look at Screaming Jay Hawkins second version...there are quite a few good quality videos out on youtube to find.

@@Carlito-Fxwg I have to admit that I didn't know who he was until a couple of weeks ago (due to youtube, in fact) even though I had heard the song first long ago, so I'm not exactly surprised not many people know who he is (I mean, he technically was a niche act from the 1950's and 1960's, after all). But I'm sure there are also a lot of people like me, who knew the song without knowing who the original artist.

In the intro you can see her writing out and passing last-minute changes to the arrangement to a member of the band. They may have gone in that day and been taken aback by playing for a nine-year-old, but by the end of the day they were calling her, "The Boss." Angelina Jordan was 9 years old when this song was recorded. It was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who was quite a character. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong. Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan. Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. One of the best biographs I've seen! I hope you don't mind me pointing out a few facts you perhaps don't know: She says herself that she is 7 at the auditiont to the NGT. That cannot be! This audition where she performed "Gloomy Sunday" took place on January 25th (confirmed by several sources that can't be doubted), and as she is born on January 10th, she must have been 8 on all the performances on the NGT. But she was 7 when she (or her mother) signed on to the competition! (The deadline for signing on was January 5th). I guess that to her music is more important than age, so it might just have slipped her mind that she had turned 8 two weeks before. The other thing is the Nobel Peace Price Concert. The person posting this video on YT has made a mistake. She is not performing at the NPPC which is an event held indoors in the evening hosted by international stars from the film or music industry. Angelina is performing at the "Save the Children's Peace Price Festival" ("Redd barnas fredsprisfestival"), a program outdoors, mainly for children, hosted by children, where the Peace Price winner(s) are attending for a short time. (in the day of the actual video, the winners are present for half an hour before they have to leave for the next stop of their program of the day). Angelina's performance on the NPPC is still to come, - but she has sung to the peace price winners, I am sure she will be performing on the NPPC some day not too far away.

@@erik-nm5cf thank you for the information. Angelina’s audition at NGT was at the age of 7 so was her second performance at the judges cuts where she performed I’m a Fool to Want You. These 2 performances were prerecorded when Angelina was 7 years old but broadcasted when she was 8. Her performances of Bang Bang and Summertime were at live events after she has turned 8. As for the NPPC I’m aware of that. There are many events that are associated with the Nobel Peace Prize and the “Save the Children’s Peace Prize Festival” is one of those event that Angelina performed at. Many people refer to it as a concert although officially it is called a festival. Angelina actually performed twice at that event. I will send you a link after this message. @@davidtouma4878 As you say there are many events associated with the Nobel Peace Prize, and the issue here is that the Nobel Peace Prize Concert is the name of one of these events: The official concert given to honour the price winner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize_Concert . Angelina's two performances were given at another event: "The Save the Children's Peace Price Festival". These two are not the same! . Though they both are parts of the celebration of the peace prize winners. The first of Angelina's performances is given before the winners arrive. (at ab. 3.00 the text below says: "The Peace Prize Winners will arrive the City Hall Square at 11.30"). The text when she is performing in front of the winners says (at ab. 6.30): "The Prize Winners are going to an audience in the Palace at 12.00". Then it is the matter of age. I have done some investigation on this, and give you the documentation upon which I have come to my conclusion + some reflection about why Angelina answered "7" when asked. Then you can judge for yourself. There were three auditions: 24th and 25th of November in Trondheim and 5th and 6th of December 2013 held in Os (outside Bergen) and Oslo. The audition in Trondheim is confirmed through several news articles to being held on November 24th and 25th. The audition in Os was to be held "the following weekend", which was the first weekend in December. Another news article about the audition in Os mentions the Trondheim audition as already held, which means that the audition in Oslo was the last of the three. The auditions in Oslo took place January 25th, 26th and 27th in 2014. This Wikipedia article no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norske_Talenter_(sesong_6) is showing the dates of broadcasting clearly telling that the auditions in Oslo were aired from March 7th (Sending 5) and further on. And Angelina's performance was aired on March 7th, confirmed by many news articles and also this one stating explicitly that she was on audition in Oslo: www.tv2.no/a/5378815/ . The article opens with: "Angelina Jordan Astar (8) er en av deltakerne som stilte på «Norske Talenter»-audition i Oslo. (Translated: AJA (8) is one of the participants showing up for NGT audution in Oslo. Angelina's talent is singing and for her audition she chose singing the hungarian song "Gloomy Sunday" written in 1939 and which BH made a great hit in 1941). Another source confirming that the auditions in Oslo took place January 25th - 27th is the following: nordstrand-if.no/fotball/gratisbilletter-til-norske-talenter-2014 which is an offer for free tickets to a sports club.. I don't think it is necessary to translate as you will clearly se "Oslo" and the dates "25., 26. and 27. januar". It says further that there are to be held two auditions each of these dates. There can be no doubt that the auditions in Oslo were held in the end of January. The long video of Angelina performing "Gloomy Sunday" starts with the words: "The first day of the auditions [in Oslo] draws towards an end, and the waiting time has been long." - Which places Angelina's performance on the first of these three days, the 25th. And how do we know that Angelina performed in Oslo? Above I have mentioned two articles connecting the Oslo auditions to the program aired on March 7th, and the article explicitely saying she performed "Gloomy Sunday" in Oslo. If that is not convinceable, there is more: The choir "VIVA" performed on January 25th The article on www.aftenbladet.no/kultur/i/lvyg7/VIVA-kan-kore-seg-til-topps-i-Norske-Talenter says: "VIVA Sandnes kulturskolekor består av 46 medlemmer i alderen 12-19 år. Det ble øvd en god del i forkant i håp om en knirkefri audition som fant sted 25. januar i Oslo." (Translated; VIVA, the choir of the cultural school in Sandnes, consists of 46 members aged 12 - 19 years. There was much practising going on in advance in the hope of a smooth audition that took place in Oslo on January 25th.) Then you can jump to the video of their performance on the audition (2014/01/25): kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2LUpKKkZriCbqs , stop at 1.42 (or several other places). Compare this to the very start (or other places) of Angelina's performance kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHqZi5uIoJ1pftU. You will then notice that the judges are wearing exactly the same clothes as in Angelina's performance, and that Mia's hair style is identical. - And you will also see that the persons behind the jugdes are the same on both performances! Nobody shall tell me that the audience from Trondheim November 24th was present also in Oslo - and sitting on the same places. And that the judges did not change their hair and clothes from November to January! Further on it is very likely that the personal numbers starting with 7 is the competitors showing up in Oslo. And after all - why should an 8yo girl (or 7 in November) travel ab 300 miles to an audition in Trondheim, when there was one waiting for her in her hometown Oslo? And as a double check: : Here is from the audition in Trondheim on November 24th 2013. Notice the clothes of the judges! www.tv2.no/v/785497/ So: I find it solidly documented that Angelina performed "Gloomy Sunday" at the audition in Oslo on the 25th of January 2014, 8 years + 2 weeks old. Thus we can establish the time schedule as follows: The auditions were recorded in November and December 2013 and January 2014. Angelina was performing "Gloomy Sunday" on January 25th 2014. These auditions were aired on TV2 weekly from January 17th till March 21st 2014 with a pause of 3 weeks in February during the Winter Olympics (This is Norway!). Angelina's performance was aired on March 7th. Then there was a weekend (or two) in February of "Judges' cut" without audience where 250 contestants coming out of the first auditions should be reduced to 40. These cuts for the semi finals were sent on TV in two programs on March 28th and April 5th. Angelina's performance of "I'm a Fool .." was recorded February 7th and aired on March 28th. There were 5 semi finals, sent live on TV2 every Friday from April 11th till May 16th. (except April 17th which was on Good Friday). Angelina sang "Bang Bang" in the first semi final 11th of April. All viewers could send their votes, and Angelina won her semi final and became the first contestant directly qualified for the final. The judges was to decide between no 2 and no 3 by votes, which of them was joining the winner into the final. If the judges were evenly split (2 - 2), the votes would decide. The final was held on May 23rd when Angelina won with "Summertime", getting 46% of all the votes given (which could be sent by telephone or SMS by everyone watching). The deadline for signing up in Oslo for the NGT was January 5th. (found in the NGT Facebook page) making it very possible that the precasts was ab. a week later. And I have found the home page of an artist saying he was to the precast for the NGT in Oslo on January 9th. Another source (Donald Lancon jr.) says the precasts in Oslo was on January 10th and 11th. So that must be the dates of Angelina's first singing on the NGT, just when she was turning 8! My reflections about this documentation and Angelina herself saying she was 7, must be a separate answer, as YT will not allow me to put it all in one comment.

@@julielifejusthappens1232 Angelina sings most songs she covers in a similar style of the original recordings, BUT, she also takes some songs and just makes them her own. you hear the song and you recognize the words but its like you are hearing them for the first time. she is soooooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooood !!!! for several years she mainly did jazzy songs and people started saying that she couldnt do anything else. she didnt say anything, BUT, she went into her little recording area and popped off one of the hardest songs ever to sing with great ease, and that shut up most people, except the ones who are just jealous. she was 12 at the time she recorded a Whitney Houston song called " I Have Nothing", and she killed it in one go. the Whitney Houston version too several tries and several re-records of lines and verses to get the final version, Angelina does her version live and in one try !!! she sings this song as a cover of the original, still with just a few little touches of her own.

I've been following this young lady for 6 years, and I started watching reaction videos, of only Angelina, just to see the look you two had on your faces. I sat here with a silly grin and wiped the tears from my eyes as you both sat there with that look of awe, that has become so common. She entered Norway's Got Talent at 7, and won it just after turning 8. She was then invited to be on The View, and when asked how long she had been singing, she said "I was very young. One and a half", and she then went on to tell her first song was jazz. As the judges on Norway's Got Talent said, "You don't learn to sing like this, at such a young age, you're born with it." She has over 140 covers, originals and songs written just for her to sing on KZbin, and she will amaze you in most, if not all of them. She's 9 years old here. The video was shot in Black and White because in '56 when Screaming Jay Hawkins (the original artist from the candle) recorded it, TV was B&W then. She just turned 15 in January so the video was recorded 6 years ago. She's from Norway. Watch Bohemian Rhapsody next, it will give you some of her history to move from there on.

Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only girl in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is she. This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl.
