Great video Hera, I think it will be your best and most popular series. I'm at 1300 elo myself, but I'll watch every episode with curiosity. The only thing You may improve is that you need to explain more what you are doing because especially novices will not always understand it, e.g. when you place another lumber camp closer to the tree line or using hotkeys to place farms etc.

I love the series and really glad you're makeing a new 2023 version! An idea I have to put a twist to it would be a second "analyzing my opponent" part of this as well. Where you take a look at what your opponent could have done better in a replay!

This was well explained and really helpful! I played this 15-20 years ago and recently started playing again with the friend who introduced me to it all those years ago. He kept up with the RTS genre, and I was always the FPS/RPG guy, so he outplays me all the time, with double or triple the numbers in every category at the end of the match. His economy APM is insane, so I need some learning, and you keep it simple but informative without drowning us in information. Appreciate you taking the time to go through the basics again, cheers!

This is a video coaching lesson for complete beginners. If you found this informative then you should have hope that you can beat your friends it is very easy to improve from this level. Double or triple your economy/military stats at this level is really nothing. This is sub 800 advice. The majority of players are 800-1200 (I think) which is the same as online Chess, where the ELO system came from. Its fairly doable for most people to get to 14 or 1500. As it is in Chess, ie an advanced intermediate. But its hard to push any further. I bet your friend is under 1200.

This is my favorite type of AoE content. Thank you Hera :) Small feedback: the previous times, you would handicap yourself in meaningful ways - no walls, absolutely no micro, patrol only etc. I think that was very helpful for someone at low elo. This time, the tutorial was a bit less accessible for that reason. You almost had a regular game, only much slower. At low elo, I wouldn't be able to 3TC boom and pick up all the relevant upgrades and attack and defend and build castles. Maybe help us focus on the "absolute minimum" we need to do at this elo? Things like "always produce from TC", "always check for idle villagers" etc. (again, taking from your previous tutorials). Thanks again for what you do for the community!

*Perspective. At this ELO its pointless because the opponent does more wrong than they do right. He would have to point out almost everything that happens. Its only useful to point out the critical mistakes in higher elo games when all the basics are correct. At low elo the entire game is wrong, right from dark age usually.

Love the series! Just a suggestion I've noticed the StarCraft 2 pros/content creators do when they do these types of series; they ask in their Discord for people with the right elo, and play them in custom games to simulate the ladder experience. It's a little bit more work, but it lets you engage even more with your fans, and also removes all the "I feel bad for the opponent, oh what a smurf" comments as well. I think they call it "ethical smurfing". 🤣 Personally I think this is fine, you're lowering yourself to the bare minimum to win, but it's a suggestion! Keep up the good work

Big respect to a top player doing something like this. Currently stuck between 850-1000, and some of the guys are actually really good at this elo range, because they fall from 1100 lol, at least that is what some of them told me. The opponent guy here is playing around 700-800. Some of the players you meet above 900 will actually rush -> drush, man at arms rush, scout rush, archer rush, tower rush. There are players doing Castle drops, town center drops as well. They sometimes go for all in strategies, and know compositions well. They are quite fast advancing through the ages and boom well. I have build, go to hotkeys, and I assume they do as well.

There are also players that drop elos on purpose. I encountered a guy who just deleted everything at the start a few games in a row.

One small thing that would be cool is to reduce your APM according to the ELO level (Broodwar pros do this for their similar contents). I think it'd be cool for viewers with slower mechanical skills to see what can be done even at a slower speed!

Fantastic video, fantastic job. One thing: I think you could have nailed a bit more down that it's mostly: players play better. Like, getting the same value from scouting with less scouting, that's just better play. Affording things you couldn't afford in the past, better play. Consistently defending M@a with 2 units, better play. That was possible in the past but players were not able to pull it off consistently, right? And then the external factors that changed are the second page which you covered very well in the end.

The stone part really surprised me. I usually throw 3-4 vils on stone in Feudal so by the time I get to Castle age I can almost build a castle immediately, which is crucial to my defense as a beginner thwarting the early attacks I'm often unprepared for.

Thanks bro, this guide is gonna be amazing! Tho, I think it would be good if the video you upload is from a game where your opponent is a player with a consistent ELO (within the range you're explaining about) and a reasonable amount of games. It really looked like the guy was not 1k because of his level, but just for being a new player. From my humble experience, a 1k player would never be that late to make Loom, or to rush with scouts or archers (without losing them for taking a bad fight... At least running away), and aging up timings, or even castle dropping, if you have no map control. I think that way it will be a more realistic insight to the ELO range. Saludos! Vamos Argentina!

nice series this will probably help alot, how do you hotkey all your town centers? like i know i can dubbelclick them all and than ctrl+1 to group them i think? but what if i cant see all 3 at the same time how do you individually get them in a ctrl+1 group. if i take 2 towncenters and ctrl+1 them, and than i find my 3rth towncenter somewhere and i ctrl+1 it sepperatly wont it put that one in a new group, and than i lose the other 2? i have not tried yet tho so i might be wrong here

Really good for beginners but some things i want to point out when you are close to 90-100 vills the speed at which you spammed farms with hotkeys and same with stables and archery ranges, new players or beginners won't do it like this generally. Hotkeys were used mostly in all situations except researching techs. Nothing to take anything away from the guide but not sure beginners would play even closer to what speed you played this game.

Because using the build and farm hotkey and then holding shift and left-clicking is so difficult? Even without hotkeys you could achieve the same result. Just click on the icons and then hold shift. It's not like he was developing his economy like he normally would. He noticed he needed something and went all-out on it which is exactly what you should be doing at that elo instead of going too fancy

I'm at 800 elo and I play faster than Hera did here. This stuff isnt hard to do. He idled his TC a lot, didnt do anything in-game for like 5 minutes straight, and still won. If someone cant do this kind of play, they should go back to single player for a bit and practice hotkeys.

I'm low to mid 800 and I also use hotkeys and shift queue and cancel, scout with sheep, etc. My biggest problem is usually that I never build enough production buildings for some reason, but when I remember to, I'm definitely using hot keys and shift.
