I am 65 today, When I was a little girl in Argentina, I heard this song on the radio and fell in love with the song and with LOVE ....life went on...I came to CA in 1984, married divorced, my entire family passed and today ...watching PBS this song came into my life again...and again that little girl in Argentina that never dreamt ending up being an Immigration Lawyer in CA. So today I bought a ticket for the Concert in Cerritos , CA 2023 .....incredible !!!! I believe music is magic !!!!

Would love to see more love songs in our world. Dreams can come true. Sorry your familys gone now but we can always find love again if we're lucky. This was my favorite song when I fell in love but my first love married someone else. It wasn't meant to be.

Absolute stroke of genius getting Herb Alpert--who was a brilliant instrumentalist but not an experienced singer--to perform this. A professional singer might have made it too slick and impersonal, but Alpert just sounds like a regular guy pouring his heart out to his girl, and that's what makes it feel so personal.

The magic was choosing him to sing this particular song even if he wasn't really known as much of a singer. His untrained voice and lack of technical skill imparts the song with naiveté, and raw vulnerability. It raises the stakes and the emotional intensity of the song's plea.

In June of 1968 I met a girl named Jeanette, on our first date this is the first song we heard together. On July 7th. I reported for the draft. On December 9th. 1968 I arrived in RVN and was assigned to a unit as an infantryman. We wrote, she more than me, as I write when I could. I somehow managed to make it through that period my life. We wrote more often. I got out of the service on July 7th. 1970. We dated again. On May 1st. 1971 that girl and I married and danced to this tune at our wedding. To this day I am the luckiest guy in the world and this is still a great tune....peace

@larryward569 7 ай бұрын
@@mariocisneros911 so what’s your point? Millions of weddings have taken place over the years and many have not been real because there are times when the love between the coupe is not equal or there’s no love at all. It happens a lot. I’ve been there myself only to find out 4 years later she never really loved me and she left me without warning for someone else. She’s now on her 5th marriage. Bad choice for me but after all she was a good actress. And I’m not alone in that and it can happen to anyone. I remarried and I now know very well what real love is. All in a way of saying it’s important to know that love is the real deal before you get married. Herb and Lani’s love for one another is a real testimony of love that’s real and it has lasted for many years and probably after one of them passes. My mom is 98 and after my dad passed in 2013 mom has always said there will never be any other. That’s love, and that’s real.

We were all sitting around talking one afternoon. It dawned on me that sitting there were four generations of the ladies in my family at one time, together. My Mama has been gone seven years now. The one irrefutable fact of this Life I was warned about growing up and sadly did have to learn and endure daily is that of all the people you will ever know... your Mama is the most important one. And the one missed the most. There are times my heart and soul ache just wanting to see her laugh again... or just to hear her voice. This song brought back the memory of that day. It is a good song.

@@davidchildress285 - This is why I treasure mine. She is the reason I made it through my teen years. But she gave my sister and I the very best childhood anyone could ever ask for. Unfortunately, my sister doesn't respond to her when she calls or texts. She's an ass. I was little in the early 80's and It Might Be You by Stephen Bishop brings vivid memories of mom taking my sister and I on the back year to play in the tiny blow up pool, and in the sprinklers. I thank God that I can see her today. My heart goes out to all of you.

Tears stream down your face when you think that this was the apex for this kind of music in 1960s. Genius Burt Bacharach's music. Genius Hal David's unforgettable lyrics. Two great musicians. I agree. I don’t think any song at 11years old touched me like this song. It helped me imagine what love can be like and how much you can be loved. Sadly, the personification of Herb in this song and video is somewhat of a fantasy still for me. 56 years later. It was a nice dream though that helped me into adolescence. I am surprised it touched me so at 11 years old. I didnt realize how young I was until I did the math.

Yes, Herb wanted a song for a show he was going to be in. Since he basically only had instrumental hits he decided to ask a good friend of his to write him a song for the show. His friend's name was Burt Bacharach. I believe Herb did a test recording in one take and the studio told him not to erase it but to use it because it was perfect on his first try. The rest is history. Simply magic. Oh, and Herb signed this new group and used Bert's song to give them their first hit. The group's name was The Carpenters.

10/27/2021. 63 now and my dad passed away a long time ago but riding in my dads car, coming back at night from dinner or a bar, listening to this on some AM Radio station (didn't have FM yet) my dad would turn this song up a little and start singing along as best he could. I was too young to know or understand what the song was about but hearing it today makes me understand why my dad loved this song so much. My dad was a Chief in the Navy, we had already landed on the moon and although we weren't rich, we still had as much or more than most people. Vietnam was still in full swing and I faced an uncertain future as to what to do with my own life, hell I was still hugging my teddy bear. But the music of my childhood, I can always come on here at YT and go back to a time I thought would never end. My dad looked so good in his uniform, he was SO HANDSOME and ALL THE LADIES LOVED HIM. I take after my dad. The ladies love me too. And I still hug my teddy bears.

Wow, I despised the 1970's. My father lost his job in Brunswick Corporation, when it moved out of Massachusetts to Chicago, he got drunk a lot, I had panic attacks so much I needed a babysitter instead of being a babysitter like most adolescent girls my age then were. My friends were outgrowing me, the economy sucked, inflation and recession running wild, gas prices going up, speed limits going down from 65 to 55 mph on highways... Any time I go through a section of highway that's 55 mph, I curse the sign, the 1970's, and thank God that decade is Gone! See a 65 mph speed limit sign and I'm thankful the GOOD Days came back a little. The only good thing in my life in the 1970's was finally getting the hell out of Sherborn MA and moving to a place as rural and beautiful as I longed to be in as Sherborn grew too much. I want nothing to do with any 1970's return.

I saw him perform last May (with Lani Hall) - he had the audience sing this song, which we all knew - then he said "I bet you didn't know you could sing! Neither did I!"

Herb sang on a few songs, but not very many. Besides this one, I know he sang on the song I Belong, from the Coney Island album.

I remember when that song came out and seeing the video for the first time. One of the most tender songs ever written and Alpert singing it made it unforgettable. It was a different era, romance was really celebrated and cherished in classics like this one.

Rest in Peace, Burt. I always loved this song, and Herb's voice and horn playing it to subtle perfection.

This is some of my crib music, I would turn 2 in late 1968, I was in the baby crib while this music was being played in our home in N.E. Ohio. I distinctly remember Herb's music from my earliest days on earth and the uniqueness of it. Thanks, Herb, your music is part of the soundtrack of our lives.

+Martin Oldenburg Yes, times were better then I have to admit it and not because I am old which I am but because people appeared to be more sentimental and unafraid to show their feelings then. But it is up to us to show the Young people around us what real love is like by example.
