Neither the concert register for the Vienna Philharmonic nor the concert register for Herbert von Karajan list a performance of Wagner's Siegfried Idyll in Vienna in 1988. The timing of this performance is also exactly the same, i.e., 19'47, as that recorded and released by Deutsche Grammophon on DGG 423 613-2. Sorry. This is live from Salzburg in 08/1987.

Birgit Nilsson, one of the greatest sopranos of all time (IMHO) said of him that though was was an excellent conductor, he was a "small man" as a human being. Totally self-obsessed. I do not own any recordings of him and will not buy any, either. I think the BPO finally had enough of him and kicked his ass out.
