Polk (poke) is delicious especially when the leaves are young and tender. Better/milder than turnip greens. You can freeze it just like any other green.

@@marjoriedanley6131 it can make you sick if you harvest at the wrong time or don't process it correctly. I'm not trying to scare you... it's free, productive and absolutely delicious and only requires a few extra steps. But I couldn't pass by the comment without making you aware. Make sure you know what you're doing first, lots of videos on YT with detailed instructions. Hahaha... the video just got to that point and Heidi said it! Avoid the purple tinted leaves/stems.

@@marjoriedanley6131 Let me temper my comment a bit... Poke weed used to be canned commercially and sold in the grocery stores. It's nothing to be afraid of but it needs to be processed correctly.... like any food really. We've learned to ferment dairy safely and active yogurts are available everywhere. Can you screw up yogurt and make yourself sick? Sure... that's why we learn to do it properly. Poke weed was apparently difficult to cultivate in a monoculture farming environment and so sourcing the Poke in bulk was difficult for the manufacturer and it already took 3 extra steps... so it stopped being offered canned in the grocery stores. I'm sure spinach was a better crop from the cannery's standpoint. But if you have Poke around and you like greens... it's free food that tastes great in eggs and with vinegars and it's just a few extra rinses and boils. I think it's worthwhile. I hate to discourage anyone from trying Poke.

@@tennesseegirl1215 We used to have a poke sallit festival not far from where I am. Everyone would pick it and bring it to the people who put it on. They would fix it and people would come for miles around. Then it got hard to find, and they didn't do it anymore. It was a long standing tradition.

Never in a million years would I have thought to make dandelion vinegar. Thanks for that-I now have a gallon jug going. I think it's a case of too much familiarity, as my lawn is always a sea of yellow. I do make jelly, wine, etc. We have SO many that they are considered a weed here, and people spray to get rid of them. Of course, it doesn't work. But the lawn companies are making bank with them. Mine are safe, as I am anti-chemical/anti-weed-kil ler.

I didnt know that about Poke, only knew that it was edible if cooked right. Its been showing up in my garden for 5 years or so now as a volunteer. Cant help but think there may be a devine reason for that so I usually allow one plant to stay and get rid of the others because they get so big and are so invasive. But the cardinals love them and if I let one go to fruit over my berry bushes the birds will peck at the poke instead of my berries.

Excellent information, we sure do appreciate your videos! If by chance its ever fitting for you, we have several women experiencing "leaky bladder", which unfortunately isn't helped by our wonderful favorite herbs that have diuretic aspects. We were wondering if you might know of any herbs that might strengthen the bladder? The situation is probably due specifically to mature female issues. All my favorites for energy, inflammation, and relaxation, like my beloved peppermint and holy basil, are now greatly limited, woe is me! I feel like I'm relegated to ginger, which I love, but what a great sadness to have all of these beautiful plants and be unable to indulge as before! In any event, thank you for all of the wonderful information you share with us!

I had my armpits removed including lymphnodes and adenoid glands. The best thing he can do (imho) is make sure to regain full range of motion. It's not easy. I've had many many surgeries and this one was the most painful and difficult recovery. So he hurts and he hurts badly... so pain management is key and so is oversight. Don't chase the pain... don't wean too early. Time the pain meds with the physical therapy and make sure to get back to full range of motion to avoid the complications of edema (drain holes in scar tissue don't heal well and then the infections 😢... physical therapy is better). God bless.
