This battle really does show how impressive of a warrior Xena really is. Despite losing the battle against Hercules, who is arguably the strongest of the Greek demigods, Xena still held her own. This battle also plays a role in Xena's turn from evil to good, as well as changing the relationship between Xena and Hercules forever.

Hercules also had the help of his friend. A lot of people don't take that into account. Cena could have won. She had him. That's just my opinion.

@@paulnonya4417 People also don't take into account that Xena was fighting to kill. Herc was not. He always holds back against women. It was always a flaw with him. He did the same thing against the Enforcer, whom I must emphasize gave Herc a far worse beating than Xena did and he still came out on top. You really think that cousin of his was a deciding factor in this fight? He didn't provide any resistance at all and was swept away. Not to mention Herc caught Xena's sword strike with his bare hands afterwards, so he definitely had plenty of fight left in him. Most importantly, Xena openly acknowledged that he was "the greatest warrior." The writers made that clear. Even later on in Xena's own series, we see Herc parrying her sword with a mere stick.

@@CitrusBlurIf you watch closely, you'll see that Herc is temporarily dazed when Xena knocks him down onto the rock. Herc's cousin gave him the brief moment he needed to recover and catch Xena's blade, so it seems his cousin actually did help. Yes, Herc holds back. But would he hold back to the point of almost being killed (which may have happened had his cousin not intervened)? I don't think so. Herc may be the greatest warrior, but Xena still did a good job of holding her own and challenging him. Xena's abilities are well above the average mortal. You're right that the enforcer gave Herc a worse beating. But his head never hit a rock during that fight.

@@aryaarya2724 I would never deny that Xena's abilities are well above the average mortal, but the implication being made here was that she would've won had Herc's cousin not intervened. Xena admits inferiority when she declares him as the best, so she knows that she can't beat him. Also, it should be noted that Herc had endured a huge boulder in the back of his head from his newfound scout "Spiros" just prior to this fight. Heck, even her encounters with Darfus showcase who's truly on top. In this same episode, we see her have a sword duel against him and she visibly struggles to overpower him. He even manages to knock her to the ground, though she manages to stab him before he can strike. In the very next episode, she remarks to Herc.."I wanna let you know how I feel about you in case I die fighting Darfus.." so she's clearly expressing concern over the idea of going up against him again. Fast forward to the final showdown, Herc rushes to save Salmoneus and just as Darfus attempts to attack him, Herc literally knocks the guy out with a single blow. When he finally wakes up, Darfus and Xena have yet another clash, though it's more prolonged. She even resorts to throwing dirt in his face to disorient him. This is the stark contrast here. Herc effortlessly cast Darfus aside whereas Xena struggled in each of their encounters. It's a good highlight of the difference between Herc holding back and when he gets serious.

She was a little overconfident in the fight. She can slow him down a bit, but, eventually, he still would have won. Enhanced reflexes and enhanced stamina are also among his Godlike abilities. He's also more durable.

this battle is absolutely epic. I like the fact that she was close to win this one, and hercules underestimated her. When she is ready to slay him, you se hercules expression changing instantly , meaning that the demigod got afraid for his life, and if you know hercules you realize that didn’t happen often in the series.

@@broadstreet21 Its more that hercules doesn't want to kill her, so he is holding back a bit. Which is the case against most oponents during the show. He will start off trying to end the fight without killing his oponent. Its only when he fights Sovereign and Ares etc that he really doesn't hold back, which is why when he hits them they go flying into buildings. I think you'll find he holds back a lot of his strength against Xena.

Hercules doesn't show fear his concern is he doesn't want a fight with anything but if you keep pushing like Xena does there's no option but defence and then that can mean attack to protect yourself and others. He gets worried about what she'd do with others if he can't stop her.

Hercules convinced Xena to turn her life around. Gabrielle became her voice of reason & her best friend. Ares kept trying to persuade Xena to return to her old ways & had an on/off thing with each other but somehow helped each other when they needed it (he gave up his immortality to save Eve & Gabrielle). It sucked that in order for Xena to have her redemption,she had to stay dead.

Hercules holds back in every fight including this one. He still wants to correct a person and not kill him. If he fought at full strength, it would be in one blow. Xena >= Callisto. . Hercules easily defeated the goddess Callisto.

You keep saying this but we literally have episodes of Xena taking on fully powered, not holding back Gods, and not being one shotted. She even defeated Michael who was shown to be on par with Greek Gods. Listen I like Herc too. He’s great. But we have no proof given Xena’s durability feats that he would one shot her.

Interesting to see them go head-to-head, even if it's cringe for any man to fight a woman. But it's clear Hercules' one advantage on Xena is brute strength - a man's normal advantage on a woman. Otherwise, Xena was quicker, more nimble, and better at handling weapons - advantages some women can possess with training.

@@mannygomez5213 Herc is definitely reluctant to fight women. But in this case, Herc has no choice but to fight Xena in order to defend himself. He clearly underestimates her. Also, Herc does hit Xena a couple times if you watch closely, though he's probably not using his full strength.

Made it hard to root for her sometimes when you saw some of the savage acts she committed in her past and also made her a bit of a hypocrite at times when she questioned Callisto and Najara.

Callisto had no moral compass, she actually enjoyed killing defenseless people because she just blamed it on Xena. You're right on Najara though. Sure, she was kind of an extremist but she usually killed people caught in the middle of the act and in Crusader Xena was stepping on her hand when Najara was about to fall in chasm.

@@xxlCortez There is a big difference between Xena and Najara. The problem with Najara is that she deemed herself Judge and executioner of "bad people". If they didn't repent right now under her watch she would just kill them. While Xena would arrest them and bring them to justice to have a hearing and trialed. She would only kill when she had no choice or self defense. Think of that too. If Xena would have been judge under Najara's terms back in her evil days she would have definitely been dead. But she did change. Because she was given the chance to. Look who she had the chance to become. All because someone gave her a Chance (Hercules lol) Najara is self righteous while Xena truly has compassion and has hope in People. 2 very different persons.

No, they also fought in Xena's first appearance in Season 1. That fight had the same result - Hercules defeated her, but spared her life. That's why he tells her in this scene that "we've been down this road before."

Even in episodes as early as season 1, she is described as having the strength of 10 men (Altared States). And in The Greater Good, she is described as having "the strength of Ares and the speed of Hermes."
