The sound of children’s laughter, the scent of bedding dried on the clothesline, the smell of rain, snow capped mountains, fresh baked buns, seeing a smile light up a face, the tenderness of mothers caring for their children, tending my flower and veg garden, the warmth of the sun on my face… the list is yet longer, but it’s a start❣️ thank you for your videos, they are most enjoyable. I love learning new things all the time but I think the best has been learning to make quilts! As there are so many ways to construct patterns and all the different colour combinations it is a never ending learning curve. I’m 74 and hope to be learning for many many more years to come. And of course KZbin is a wealth of information about everything you could possibly want to know and I use it almost daily. Thank you Kate for your contribution to KZbin, it’s an absolute pleasure to spend time on the lime green sofa watching and listening to you, plus learning from you. ❤😊🐝🐓🐈⬛😻🧶🪡🧵🍀

Retirement provided so much-I don’t have to stop doing whatever I’m doing if I don’t want to, I don’t get all upset by the weather if it rains or snows on my days off because there are no “days off” anymore and I can wait for the weather to change, there’s time for just about anything that I want to do, so no more having to cram all things into short intervals of time, I can take breaks and not feel pressured, I suppose its the gift of your own time! My advice is to stay as healthy as you possibly can, because you’ll need mobility and energy more than ever when you do retire. And when you do, revel in it, you’ve earned it!

I can identify with so many of the comments below that I am sure the group of us (when safe) would enjoying sitting in your pavillion keeping our hands busy in our favourite way and listening to your stories. When you are determined to learn something, with time and patience, you can. I think your idea of making a map of your favourite things is great. My favorites: my mother, who is teaching me to quilt and inspires me to be a life-long learner; my husband, who loves me regardless of the menopausal mood I may be experiencing; a day, or even a week with no calendar commitments; and 0:00 orange, pink, and green. 🌸🐝

One of my most favourite things is being with friends who are equally creative which I miss terribly. Because they all spend time online for work, family, other friends they are all reluctant to do crafty things with me on zoom so I am actually very lonely tbh. Thanks for your videos Kate...just your weekly ramblings feels like being with my friends again. X

Perhaps you can do crafty things on the Last Homely House Lime Green Sofa Facebook page? There are others who love to do crafts. You can join in, we have a cozy sofa for everyone and there are tea and cookies going around for everyone. Virtual cookies so you can have them without having to diet lol.

Digging in the dirt, flowers and veggies. Crocheting, embroidery, sewing and quilting. My cat and our dog. And most of all my husband and our grown sons and their families. Being retired and able to do as I please on my own good time.

Here I sit on the lime green sofa (yup it's made it to the middle of Canada) thinking that it's amazing how your favourite things are mine too - with the added favourites of wood carving (by hand not machine) and my homemade stewed tomatoes from my garden. I also really, really like a good discussion (some call it arguing) that's intelligent, insightful and full of vigor and just generally using my brain. Thanks for you, Kate. Stay well.

Listening to Kate's stories and watching her craft is a favourite; the smell of a garden after a soft rainfall, sitting near a pond and watching dragonflies and butterflies, tickling my grandchildren, reading the series: Little House on the Prairie (very therapeutic), Christian hymns played on an organ, hugging my grown-up kids, eating lasagna with a favourite person. I am grateful to God, the giver of life.

My favorite things...reproduction samplers, tatting, cats, antiques, the birds at our local lake; saw my first loon last spring. We have a lot of gloomy days here in NE Ohio so I especially love sunny days with a blue sky with big fluffy clouds. I do enjoy being retired and not hearing an alarm clock. I love colors too especially tie dye; cooking, collecting lace and finger vases. There’s more but these are my favorites. I love your mitered square blanket but like you life doesn’t have the years needed to do everything. I used to spin and loved it but again is the subject of time. I would like to learn pottery to make some bonsai pots. And music, how can I forget music?

I'm retired and live alone and I love the freedom to do as I please with the day - drifting from one craft project to another, maybe. And a book I can get lost into and forget to drink the tea I made. And knitting for my grandchildren who I cannot see right now. And having a glass of wine with a friend or two, which I also can't do. But I think about these things and know I'll do them again soon.

Dear Kate, I have to say that my list of favourite things would be almost identical to yours, with addition of my collie dog and painting pictures. While you were making your video, I was probably about 20 miles from you enjoying the same sunshine, while painting my gates! And that makes me think, that one of my favourite things is Northumberland, and certainly Holy Island. Your videos are a joy, and this last one brought a tear to my eye.

I like all things crafting including weaving on a small loom which grows very quickly using different wool and even fabric. Sitting quietly listening to the birds. Walking among trees. The wonderful pageantry that this country puts on and which in normal times brings in lots of tourist revenue which is a bonus. The two fish that we have got left in our pond, Chop and Suey, we have had them since 2000. I have a long list and never get bored with life.

Watching KZbin, crocheting or eating a tuna melt toasted sandwich is a favourite of mine. Walking along the beach hunting for sea glass. Art early in the morning before the household wake up. Being among the trees listening to birdsong. My absolute favourite thing is reading with my 3 year old granddaughter and having a cuddle. I too watch hens at work, they are indeed stupid but each has their own character. We have 3 rescued turkeys who are slower but more curious and charming 💛in summation anything to do with art or nature will be a favourite 🤩☘️🎨☕️and of course tea 🫖 xxx

I know exactly what you and your dad mean when talking about social functions. I too have always hated them. When I was younger I used to live in Hebden Bridge and would be persuaded to go out for a drink with friends to the pub. After a time I would always feel like I had had enough and would quietly dissapear off into the night. ( I found it easier to leave without saying anything as if I did say I was going there would be some friends who would try to persuade me to stay longer) As a result my nickname became "Urban Fox"

The smell of clean washing that’s been out on the line all day, social dancing, sewing (newbie quilter), nature, animals, waking up in the morning & seeing that my calendar is clear, even better if it’s clear for the whole week, country walks, looking at old houses, charity shopping, Cadbury’s Caramel chocolate bar and the occasional specialist gin, making hedgerow jams, sloe gin, making new things from old fabric, upcycling furniture saved from landfill.
