Dear Kate, this is one of my favorite videos. Your true personality came out and I think that is why we love you so much. Your little Yoop Se Daisy and Hidey Ho make things so funny. I'm from the United States and I had never heard Hidey Ho before but I love it. In your videos I have the idea sometimes "Can I make that?" to "I'm going to make that. You make us want to at least try to do new things. I so enjoy your videos and sometimes watch them over and over again. I want to make the afghan that you are working on while you watch "The Tellie" I am just searching for that video. Thank You Kate for Being You!

As a sewist for 66 years, I must admit, my friend dear Kate, that I have shed more tears and spent the most time with my friend Jack the Ripper sewing and re sewing Zips as you fondly call them. I was blessed to receive in the mail yesterday your complete collection of books. Such lovely pictures. I am not surprised that you were in the health care profession. You have an analytical mind but are gusty enough to make do as circumstances dictate. I was a Nurse also who work with special needs children for over 20 years. I can identify with the joys and difficulty working away from a sterile cold medical setting. I smiled, laughed and cried reading you stories. You have experienced great tragedy and triumph in your life. The young woman who passed all too young , I pray she was kept as pain free as possible and we both know there are worse things than death. Thank you for sharing your life, it gives me courage to face another day

Faith - what a lovely name for a Nurse - that year was the most emotional and traumatic for all who were involved. but yes - I believe that we did all we could to make her life the best we could in the circumstances. Her daughter is the image of her in more than looks - I have no words. But BUT! we go on - and we be the best we can be, take joy in the tiny moments - even unpicking! I love this comment so much xxxx thank you

We have been supporting our autistic daughter who lives alone . She struggles with some aspects of her day to day care , but we are immensely proud of her achievements to date . She is savaunt, so memory is both a blessing and an issue from time to time . Some days I come away feeling very sad some days very uplifted . Despite all life's ups and downs caring for her is a joy ( mostly) and so I would pass on to carers everywhere, some heart felt best wishes and hope for the future . I've done a few cushion covers with them in years past but never enjoyed the process very much. 😊 It's good though to be able to remove and wash the covers so all new ones get zips, and I still dread it. 😶 Brenda is a trooper. evening Kate, I use to make these for dad when he broke the base of his spine and needed extra support there when sitting, I use to shake the feathers down before unpicking and do a running stitch 1/2 inch below where I had to unpick the cushions, only a few feathers escaped that way and made it easier to unpick, I also pinned and then tacked when stitching on the machine it made it easier to stitch on a normal sewing machine, thank you, Kate and Norma, lovely to see you both, have a beautiful week x x

Over the last 2 years I learned a wet way to thread needle , any sewing needle! You can wet the tip of needle where the eye is and slip thread right in! We used to wet the tip of the thread, I wet the of my finger, touch the hole on the needle, pick up my strand of thread& somehow the wetness attracts the thread, really no kidding it works! You probably already know this! I always enjoy the videos you share, thank you for your time ! And knowledge!

Oh! Kate not in this life time will I make a triangular cushion, sadly. Zipper's are my enemy as is clothes making. My eldest granddaughter was doing an exchange semester at Trinity College in the UK from Australia and I attempted to make her 2 corduroy skirts with zipper's for the UK winter. The first 2 skirts were passable except for the zippers but sadly to small. That's okay I say I will make 2 larger ones. Mmmmm! Well needless to say she never did get them. I really enjoyed your company thank you so much Kate, it was lovely sitting on the LGS alongside your other friends! You completely explained how to make one of these shaped cushions, and sharing your thought process and "give it a go" ethos was very inspiring. I'm not confident with zips, but Sew Easy make a double sided wash away quilters tape, which is great for sticking the fabric to the zip and stopping any slippage. I find it really helpful! Your sweet cat is looking so healthy and much younger than 20, she's obviously extremely well cared for and loved! Best wishes Jo xx

Well done, Kate! You are so inspiring to me. I have sewn since I was a little girl and have put in many zippers and I applaud you for trying it. We don’t learn if we don’t make mistakes. I tell my kids that all the time. You have made another video that shows that you are human and I believe that’s what we need more of. The younger generations are taught that it’s bad to fail. We need to stop being so tough on ourselves and try new things. Look! I wouldn’t be starting my tenth quilt if I didn’t take a risk and try quilting! Keep doing it all! I love it Kate! Glad to know I'm not the only one who struggles with things. I learned a miracle hack for zippers that I use all the time. If you use Dritz Wash Away Wonder Tape, you can put it on both sides of the zip and it will stay in place while you sew it. You just have to make sure your seam allowance is wide enough so the tape doesn't show, but if it does show, you can get it wet and it will wash away. I use this stuff all the time!

It was in large bold print! Funny how we can miss something. Your cat…. Lol! She wants to me on camera too. 20 years old… my dad had one that lived to be 23! I found out one day he let her lick vitamin E oil off his finger everyday! Ladybug… solid black and she always followed him around the veggie/fruit garden. Missouri is about 20 miles from me. I love this video. “What a twit!” 😂😂 I laughed so hard! I am not that gentle with myself when I make mistakes. Lol. I didn’t have a chance to read all the comments, so maybe someone else noted this already. The zipper you are using is an invisible zipper, which creates its own challenge. I found a tutorial, online for installing invisible zippers and it has become one of my favorite ways of installing a zipper now in a cushion. You do need an extra special invisible zipper foot for it. It guides the zipper teeth through a groove in the foot. You might like it. I enjoy installing zippers though. Anyway, just thought I’d mention it. Trying to install an invisible zipper without that specialty foot really is not easy. So go easy on yourself! That’s would have challenged someone who is used to sewing zippers. Also, every time I put in an invisible zipper, I screw it up and have to say, “What a twit,” or something less nice to myself.

Kate you made life harder than it need be. You had the wrong type of zip for the method you were using, you need a regular zip for that method. You had an invisible dress zip which you simply open and stitch next to the teeth, no ends, you don't see the zip on the right side. done. Having said that I love your wit and enjoyed the seeing the triangle cushion. I admire you rustic charm. No sewing police here, just a soft furnishing tutor.

I love Missouri Star Quilt Co’s tutorial on sewing the pouch. Your method is what I would have used; but Jenny encloses the zipper ends in her tabs, and once she did that, I liked it so much I never went back. I didn’t like zips either, but had to learn. But don’t ask me to do an invisible zip because those scare me! Oh, and there is a product called Zipper Tape which is a double sided tape you stick to the zip and to the fabric, instead of pinning. It holds things in place rather nicely. Adding: If you lightly spray the upper portion of the feathers with water, they will stay down in the pillow. The water makes them a little heavy. I restuffed an old feather pillow and learned this trick after I was in a cloud of feathers.

Kate, I hope you have discovered Sarah & Duck with Agnes. There is a wonderful story about losing the pull-thingy on her zip, and going to a haberdashery to find a replacement. It all goes a little psychedelic. I don't even own a sewing machine, but I really enjoyed watching you persevere on this, while I bound of the hem of a sweater. I heard your chickens out the window. Your channel is good company at 3 am .... or most any time, really.

There's a new lace zip out at Amazon that you sew onto the right side of the fabric (which I thought would be nice for a project bag.) It reminds me of eyelet lace. I did see an application where you unzip to stitch a completely straight line (avoiding the zipper head.) I found that brilliant! At 65 my goal us to learn at least one new thing each day, hopefully more than one thing!

I finally stopped being intimidated by zippers..I made small zipper bags and once you get the hang of it , it's truly no hard. I also checked out KZbin and it was very helpful

I bought one of the first white Jukis back in 1995. It’s my workhorse machine. I get it cleaned and tuned up once a year. I’ve gone through 2 regular household machines in that timeframe and now working with a third. Depending on how heavy duty or how lightweight the needle is, I can sew everthing from lace to calico to home deco to denim to heavy canvas, to leather! Multiple layers of all of them. The knee lifter is adjustable, but it looks like you’re high enough to fit the machine with the chair as it is. The table top is adjustable also. It goes only so high, but it also goes only so low. I’m a six footer so I needed my machine high enough that I don’t have to curl my back so I can see to sew. I’ve got my table cranked up pretty high! The more you practice those zips the better you’ll get at installing them, and the less anxiety you’ll have. Keep on keeping on!

Hi Kate :) This was fun and informative too! I've learned a lot from Jenny, but hadn't seen the zip one :) good pointers! Yes, I avoid zips at all costs and figure ways around them! LOLOL It's a funny coincidence that I was thinking about making a couple of pillows to tuck in for cozy corners here and there :) I just might put zips in!! :) Enjoy your much-deserved break!

Lovely dress you are wearing today Kate! I am in the 'not so good with zippers' club, but I think you've done a fine job and I may actually try this. Have a good week everyone on the LGS!

Loved and could learn properly to sew a zipper nicely.Wow ,your necklace just matches your dress .I like your style of presentation very much. You are a real hardworker.I can't do so much of craftwork as you do without any hitch. Surely you are an inspiration for me.Stay safe and stay healthy 🙏❤.

This is great. I don't want to watch the experts, who make it look so easy; I appreciate watching a sewer with a similar skill set, yes, and fear, with zippers to mine. And, you did a great job!
