Having also lived in Spain during the early 2000’s you reminded me of when I first experienced Spains casual attitudes to car care, I backed my early Saab 93 Turbo into an old Kia or Hyundai saloon caving in one of the doors, getting out ready for being torn down the Spanish owner just shrugged and said it had plenty of dents already so don’t worry! That would never happen in the UK lol😂

First time we went to Spain (2005), parked up round the corner from a Carrefour supermarket, this was in Andalusia. As we're walking into the entrance, a bloke in a Renault caddy type van turns left into the car park, as someone else pulls out, the car pulling out scrapes the rubber trim part off the nearside of the Renault. Both chaps get out (with both vehicles still in the entrance and partly in the road blocking it) and begin screaming at each other in Spanish. My dad the next day watched a Spanish person deliberately "Crash" her car into a parked car, at low speed, in order to push it forward to make room for her to park. She then reversed and hit it again at low speed. Spanish car ownership is almost like the French..... caring for your car, cleaning it, treating it well is seen as "Disgusting" and it's "just a tool" to the Spanish. Went to Spain about 10 times over the next 9 years but haven't been since 2014, got a holiday booked for end of this year to go back, and no doubt the driving style hasn't changed since I last went.

I have had one of those Corsas B 1.0 54bhp ECO thing. For quite a couple years. It's been my first car. It had NOTHING but Air Conditioning (that later broke down), and it was slow AF. But it was great for what i needed it, learn to drive. It showed me that you always have to anticipate, we went to watch some WRC with it loaded with 5 guys and lugages. Uncofortable, but we made it. We've been in the snow with it, in the mountains and so on. It was a car that drove you anywhere. Just slowly. It had issues with emissions every single year, that was a bit of a pain, but it really is a car that doesn't use much gas (well you expect this by it's poor engine, right?). It's a car from before the 1.0L cars where in fashin and where a trend, except this one had no turbo on it. Otherwise it'd have been probably a small rocket as it weights nothing.

Back in the 80’s, my dad used to buy and sell cars as a part time business/hobby. I remember once we got a Citroen BX and I, being still at school at the time, was fascinated by the suspension going up and down when you started it up and turned it off. We found out eventually that dad purchased the car incredibly cheap as the previous owner, a farmer, had committed suicide in it with his shot gun. Mum was not happy with him, may the farmer concerned rest in peace.

Hey I just watched your episode where you walk through your dealerships inventory, including inside and your outside inventory & you were talking about how you wanted to make all of these lofty plans to renovate your shop. I have to agree with you, I was surprised to see the state of your business exterior and interior. Especially considering the very high standard you have with the vehicles you bring from near car death to life again with a mind to save the car a trip to the scrap yard and pay it some attention, giving it another chance to run. And you do so with almost the same care and intent that a parent would give to a problem child who also just needs some TLC. Keeping that single most identifying trait that your program niche is based around, one would be confused to see the space in which that same individual chooses to present those quality vehicles. Your lofty plans sound to be in a future that is probably NOT happening next year. In the mean time, the space seems to be manageable and not terribly large. Clear a work space and DYI and plan with a couple of good friends a week or two and strip away the old paint and put some of your same vision you give the cars you take in and give a second chance and do so with your building that shows off your investments. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to spruce up the relatively small garage space you have. You should feel good about the space you show off your inventory and passerby’s might take a second look at your inventory and be able to visualize a more accurate opinion of the kind of business you have and more importantly, if the old saying is true, that we’re all products of our environment. Then one might be getting the signal completely wrong based on those first impressions. It makes sense, i mean, what is the first thing you or I want to do to even begin the process of turning around the unloved car? Get it a wash, refurbishing dents, corrosion and full clean up inside. Then what a difference it makes! The same idea must start with the shop you select to show your good intentioned efforts to bring your community some of the villages most cared for and above average used car offerings. If you don’t have time to DYI, get a couple of professional painters in to knock out the job quickly, a little paint goes a long way. I think it should be a neutral color, maybe 2 color tones. The lower part but up 3 quarters of the wall of whole building a grey color and then the rest a stark crisp white. Paint the inside all white, then gut the ceiling removing all of those horrible panels and florescent lighting. Get a real sheet rooked ceiling fitted and have pre cut holes for canned reassessed lighting installed, and many of them spaced neatly 2 or 3 feet from one another. Have a tradesman come in and paint the cement floor a with sealant in a light grey color or get the floors replaced in simulated wood panel to wood panel appropriately colored or ceramic floor covering. Then toss out those ugly fake trees you have in place for decoration and get yourself over to a plant nursery and purchase 4 large ceramic and eye pleasing pots and place 2 inside and 2 out side the building. For the interior get a fig tree or ficus or similar, they do good with indirect med light. Or buy fake but very good fake. Though real is the best. And you might find this is something you enjoy looking after. Your outside plants should be hearty and one that does well with the weather conditions you have, a topiary tree 🌳 usually in round forms. That are in 3 or 4 tiers of manicured round shapes that get smaller as it rises. They look great on the out side if placed within good eye view of the public. Installing outside indirect lighting to the building that reflects on the new facade paint will have great curb appeal. It looks like you have a nice partial iron enclosure around the shop, go in and repaint all of the iron planks and fencing a matte or glossy black. Enhance and compliment the buildings around you. Think of Paris, when you look at some of the outside facades, none particularly large but the what the owner does have, they make it look like a million dollars with color, texture and lighting and then the next neighbor does the same and so on. Then you have an area known as a beautiful and kept area. Remember, keep it simple and make big splashes with a few big stand outs, ie potted trees, interior and exterior lighting and then let all of the wonderful and good quality cars you offer in the space tell the rest of the story! Then in 10 years or so or sooner, the option to buy and fully renovate the place comes into play, at least in the meantime, you will have had a nice place that served a good purpose for your gradual climb up the success and esthetic ladder..

Been looking forward to hearing about your sales in Spain. I live near Barcelona after many years of bad buys; AVOID JAGUARS that haven't depreciated, last year I bought and sold a FL2 and Pathfinder. I lost 500 on the FL2 and made about 800 on the Pathfinder. Now selling a mate's company Vitara 2009 for him for a commission. Gonna be less stressful selling someone else's car. How did you sort the insurance in the beginning? Using your tips and my experience selling cars in Spain, I'm going to upload a video to my channel about how I sell it and giving general basic advice. 😀

Hi Matt, great video, looking at the photos beyond the cars looks like Sierrazuela out the back of Fuengirola. I spend my working day driving all over CDS and sometimes beyond. I’m looking around for a Spanish car atm to replace my long serving Rover, it’s getting tired now🤣🤣🤣 the prices are horrendous and even then no guarantee it’s ok, not a lot available in the expat market which is generally the more reliable source. Enjoyed the vid, keep up the good work👍🏻😎

I have always loved the retro look of the PTCruisers. It was such a pity the innards didn't really live up to its appearance

Great video Matt & very similar to myself (although in a totally different area of business). Yes we all look back very melancholy and it seems we had more fun back in the day 👍

@@HighPeakAutos I think it was because we were more hungry then, and every successful trade / job done gave us a genuine buzz. Both in a much more established place now and we think different as well.

You remembered the number plate on the Disco 3 and others commenting how sad is that. Made me chuckle a little because I was going to comment on the Mitsubishi number plate saying I had a S type Jag with the plate PG51 EHC. Only the last letter different. Now I have commented!! The sadness exists in us all I guess.............

A very enjoyable video, I used to do a bit of trading in the late 90s as side business, thinking about returning to it when I retire in a couple of years. Liked the eclipses you bought, had them as hire cars in the states, a car which should have made it to the uk

After teens spent ducking and diving, wheeling and dealing in Spain, you must sometimes feel you are washed up on the beach with the flotsam and jetsam of the stream of life. It's the people you meet in UK that really get you down. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit

Very good video shows your apprenticeship in car dealing. It’s a great business if you know what you are doing and can learn to take the rough with the smooth, they’re not all big earners. I live in Mijas Golf, Costa Del Sol and it’s amazing how many of the expats have been forced to return to UK. I have bought 3 great cars from returning expats and could have started a little business selling them on. On the near horizon is the Spanish equivalent of ULEZ (called ZBE) being introduced, this will dramatically affect many older car owners here, not sure how this will affect car sale prices.

its all EU nonsense. That will seriously affect the used market over there. Spanish people love diesels

Weird thing is, in Holland I found one, 2007 3.0 TDI 277.000 km's 6.999,- and a 2008 3.0 TDI with 242.000 km's for 8950,- Cars at the other end of the pond are a lot cheaper
