It turns out my issue was a little different - the seat belt had become hung up on a plastic thing under the cover. But because of your video, I wasn't afraid to pry off that housing and figure out what the problem was. Thanks!

One thing about these videos, if you forget how it came apart, you can watch your own video to recall which washer went on first, etc.!

I saw a guy do this. The water and soap that the other guy used lubed the mechanism a little. I just pulled mine all the way out and shot some wd40 in there. Works a lot better now. It's just as good as this and the other guys fix but a lot easier.

It would be a good idea to change the water a couple of times - just as your washing machine does. Maybe add some soap?

Nice video. In addition to cleaning, I'm wondering if there isn't a way to get a little more tension in the retracting mechanism. Does it have a coil spring in it? Would it be possible to tighten that spring a little bit to get a more aggressive retraction?
@ERICSDIYGARAGE5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching unfortunately im not familiar of any way that you can add more tightening tension sorry

Why not remove the tether thing so you can put the entire belt in the solution (or almost all of it)?
@ERICSDIYGARAGE7 жыл бұрын
Charles Senf i felt like that would of made this too complicated plus we do not use all of the seat belt so that means that the section in retractor should be clean.

Cleaning the belt has nothing to do with it there is a coiled spring on the side of the extender it can slip over time it also loses its strength the best way to repair it is to pull your seat belt all the way out of the extender and you will see that it goes through the middle of the bobbin and there's a pin made out of plastic that locks it in. Push the seat belt into the bobbin, pull the pin out and then pull the loop backwards and you'll remove the fabric part of the seat belt from the extender. Be careful cuz when you do it will be tensioned and tried to spring back. What you want to do is turn the bobbin in the direction of the most resistance where you're tightening it up after a couple of rotations thread the fabric belt back through put the plastic piece back in the loop then pull the belt tight and slowly let it wind back up. It will be good as new. You can even make it stronger if you wish

What is the connection between retracted seatbelt and dirty seatbelt?... Why washing the seatbelt will make it fixed......can someone explain to me... Don't it cause of the mechanical problem?
@ERICSDIYGARAGE6 жыл бұрын
The dirt on the seat belt will make the Belt not retract smoothly, this won't damage your seat belt just let it dry
