Unfortunately you will lose that money grab with the lawyers. If you bought that car as-is, no warranties implied or unimplied. Done. It’s a used, beat, broken vehicle they you are going to attempt to sue someone make a profit and then attempt to gouge the next guy with selling the vehicle to. Full circle just the dealerships are much better at it than most as it is their actual jobs.
@shawnhicks6192 жыл бұрын
@@davidwright6727 that is assuming it’s an as is sale. But I’m guessing that’s not the case or if it is and as is sale is contingent on passing a ppi then the seller may be legally in the clear and the dealer who conducted the PPI is culpable for misrepresentation. The dealer that did the ppi has the option to repair the car to meet the stated condition on their ppi or go to court. There has already been a case that the buyer won in a situation almost exactly like this involving a Ferrari f430. The dealer had to not only pay but paid more the the guy paid for the car, and the guy was awarded damages and legal fees. Does that mean this will happen to Rob? Don’t know but I’ll bet this case is referenced for sure. And remember even wrecked and repaired Ferraris have a significant value just have diminished value from unbranded cars.

If I saw a weld of that quality on a Honda, I'd be disappointed even if it was intact. But I guess if an Italian breathes on it, the weld transcends quality and enhances your lifestyle by the welder's charm. Hard to say what made the rack fail. Maybe the pope didn't bless this one. If the car was misrepresented and the deal was a fraud, that is 1 problem. But you can hardly miss the fact that the car was built broken. Maybe this fact should disappoint you as well.

May not be the same part for the 488 and 458 steering rack. Ferrari sometimes doesn’t change the metal number stamping but actually changes some internals. My guess is they could be different calibration or gearing internally but are inside the same casing. This is why Ferrari sometimes needs the chassis number for your car to get the right part.

Bloody dealers hey! I just had a 4 month ideal with GM about a Silverado I know I know not a Ferrari but they bascially treated me the same. The truck was rusted from brand new. They left it out in the salt air in the port for like a year during covid and I bought it with a PPI and they didn't mention any of the rust. And it was bad had it inspected by an engineer and they told me the car won't be road worthy within 3 years and Australian road worthy laws you cannot have any rust on the chassis or major structural peices. And a heap of other issues like the engine grenading itself at 7000kms. They flat out refused to make it right until my lawyers sent them an email saying they have been engaged on this matter. Then they started chasing their tail and trying to repair it and doing a horrible job and not sending it to be properly fixed by a professional they essentially just sprayed rust proofing over the already rusted parts. The diff cradle was literally crumbling into my hands. Yet they just sprayed over the top of it. Eventually they bought the car back for a slight reduction in price due to the KMs on the car. Which I just took as I was done with the car. It's so annoying when they promise you quality and it turns out to be bad and they don't back their products or their sale....it's so annoying and I swore off GM, jeeps and dodges both had issues out the ass with them to. Never again. Get your lawyers to use some very aggressive language. Get them to do the fighting for you.

Rob, re: the steering rack differences, purportedly the 488 rack is 1.9 turns lock to lock vs the 458 which is 2.0 turns lock to lock. The casting numbers that you spotted are the same. Given 488 and 458 are the same chassis it makes sense that the rack case is the same part, but it may well be that the guts of the steering rack; i.e the rack and pinion components are a slightly different ratio. That would certainly account for different part numbers. Similarly, I suppose that means that you can upgrade a 458 to a slightly quicker rack if you use the 488 part number? Ferrari won’t give things separate part numbers for fun. They are too small of a company for that. Cheers, Jon M.

Re: PPI. Obviously not all PPIs are the same. There are lots of otherwise good mechanics who don't know what to look for with respect to body/frame damage. Or were not made aware of previous accident damage and therefore were not focusing on that aspect of a PPI. And, yes, some just don't do a very good job. You can't just drop a car off and say "Do a PPI". You need to discuss what the PPI will specifically cover. Sometimes a customer will want (and pay for) a very detailed inspection taking several hours or more. Others will want (and pay for) just a cursory inspection that might uncover only the most glaring problems. I don't know what happened in this case; not trying to cast aspersions on anyone nor excuse anyone. But, it might be interesting to see that actual PPI report.

I think you are being unfair.. but that’s my opinion… you bought a car that has been in accident. The guy that sold you the car might not noticed it him self that the weld was cracked. If you are so good (no sarcasm) at pointing out/ finding the problems your self. Why didn’t you do the PPI your self? I don’t know man. I respect you and enjoy watching your content, but I can’t agree with on this one. Sound more like a wokee that got screwed. Yes dealer is at fault that they did not catch that crack. But I bet you they don’t check if there is damages on cylinder walls either. Usually the PPI is very generic. And you know that. Also if the frame was damaged and repaired well I wouldn’t be concerned much. I haven’t worked with Ferraris yet but I did worked on Aston Martin, and their sub frame is really poor quality. Usually the repair is better quality. I’ve seen air space or air plane parts being welded or repaired because new ones are cost a lot more. Lot of expensive items in many different industries are repaired due to cost of buying new. One thing I do agree with you, is that there is a lot of idiots that trying to fix cars that should not work on cars to begin with. Like an English teacher that can’t spell America…
