About a week ago I took delivery of a 2010 Sport GTS. My first Maserati, although I was smitten by Italian cars after owning a pair of classic Alfa Romeos in my youth. The Quattroporte is just unbelievable, and probably the last we’ll see if it’s kind. That V8 sound!! I can relate completely to you comment about driving it simply bringing a smile to one’s face. What more could you want?
@ValEuroSport3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Julius! Here is a quick hint to make the smile on your face grow even wider! Whenever you drive by that neighbor or that bro in the office that always aggravates you, push the "SPORT" button and lean heartily on the right pedal. Look in the mirror and enjoy, LOL!

Just love Maserati....at 61 years young I have just bought a 2014 Granturismo sport , very low miles and in A1 condition...it’s a dream to drive and still a rare sight on UK roads. Love the Quattroporte and especially the GTS ( future classic IMHO ). Really enjoyed your video.

Hi Phil, how's your Maser QP going? H? I'm considering getting a second hand one, maybe a 2010. Life's too short to drive boring cars! (from regional Victoria)
@philnash91193 жыл бұрын
@@cameronlohse4897 Hi Cameron. The car is very good. I have had a few "up-market" cars over the years, e,g, AMG GT so am used to the foibles of high-end sports cars etc and the compromises you need to be prepared to make. The QP5 GTS (and indeed all QP5 series cars) has four key weaknesses - 1. sticky buttons. Here in Australia it is not a matter if, but when. There are many threads on forums to sort this. I wanted it done properly - $4500. There are a lot buttons, switches etc in a Q5. 2. The alternator will fail. It is in a poorly designed spot in the V of the engine and it's little fan will only suck in hot air. You can buy second-hand, try and fix it yourself etc. Mine failed at 78k kms. The alternator I could only source from Maserati. I bought one overseas and had it shipped it was cheaper than buying one from Maserati here in Australia. To install it you have to remove the LHS manifold. It is not a trivial job. I am not mechanically inclined so paid a mechanic experienced with the QP to install. 3. The external mirror buttresses are aluminium and unfortunately they were not sealed by the factory before being painted. If you buy a car that has had an owner who lived near the sea. Likely you will see bubbling caused by the aluminium/salt electrolytic corrosion. Mine did and I have had it fixed. 4. The QPs eat suspension rubbers, drop links etc. I replaced these at 79k kms. The above are all negotiation items for you in your search. Regardless, get a PPI done by someone you trust. Mine had a full Maserati stamped log book. I bought it 500 kms after the last service and it had the suspension issue and bubbled mirrors buttresses when I bought the car and it arrived from Sydney. The QP5, in my opinion, is a better car than the the QP6 in one key area. The gearbox. The shift to manual mode is uncomplicated and 6 speeds are plenty for me than the 8 speed QP6 box which is not as easy to use. (The preceding is my opinion only). I agree with your sentiment. Better to not die wondering. Good luck with your search. Phil

I have 2005 Quattroporte with 58000 miles and the original clutch driven only on manual sport mode. I had no mechanical issues. It is a brilliant sedan with an incredible engine and better weight distribution than the later automatic version 53% f and 43%r and a timeless design - an art on wheels. It is a very engaging and fun to drive manual 4 door sedan if you enjoy driving a manual car and have an understanding of how clutches operate.
@ValEuroSport3 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you about these Maseratis. There is nothing that comes close to these cars in terms of class, smiles per mile, and improving one's quality of life. You should try the Quattroporte GTS though. If you enjoy driving your 2005 QP, you will LOVE driving a 09-14 GTS with those banana sized paddle shifters while listening to the insane exhaust!
@rafibalouzian99513 жыл бұрын
@@ValEuroSport I also have 2012 Gran Turismo S auto with mc shift option and mc suspension. I love both engines. I also only drive manual because the auto is very low geared and in sport mode it holds on to gears too long. The Quattroporte with transaxle has better handling than the auto gran turismo and Quattroporte - the best handling weight distribution 47% front and 53% rear
@ValEuroSport3 жыл бұрын
I noticed the shifting pattern you mentioned as well! I only drive these Granturismos with the shifter paddles. There is nothing like downshifting when slowing down and listening to that glorious exhaust! As to the Quattroporte, the Sport GTS I had was absolutely the most badass sedan I ever drove by far! @ValEuroSport3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Totally agree with you. The GT is a work of art in and out. Unfortunately, some parts of the car were not designed in the best way. The mirror switch is one of them. If you are looking in the dictionary for the antonym of the word "robust", you will find a picture of this part. Not only it is very loosely secured in its bracket (if you can call it that), the internal part of the switch is very fragile and it will break if you so much as yell at it LOL. I bought a few of these switches as spares and I can sell you one if you like. I have the cheapest one on ebay here: www.ebay.com/itm/254965484889

You should expect to start replacing suspension components and the like...
