One of the most significant places in the Holy Land, Mount Tabor has a history of importance long before Christianity. Due to its position along major trade routes, it was fought over by various civilizations.
It is an important site for Jews as well as Christians. For Christians, of course, this is recognized as the place that Christ was transfigured in the presence of Peter, John and James (Matthew 17: 1-8; Luke 9: 28-36; Mark 9:2-8) and was revealed his identity as the son of God and the second person of the Trinity. We celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration on August 6.
By the 6th Century several Christian churches occupied this spot, later to be destroyed by the Persians, then rebuilt in the 11th Century by the Crusaders, then destroyed again during the Muslim conquest of 1187.
The Church you see today, the Church of the Transfiguration, is fairly recent and was built by the Franciscans in 1924. In size it is one of the largest in the Holy Land.
In addition to the Church itself, the view from the top overlooking the valley is magnificent. There is also an Orthodox church at the top as well, but not usually open to the public.
“And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered licensed tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church.

Thank you for bringing me to a place that I think of so often throughout the day….God willing, I will be visiting ALL these special places, places where Jesus walked…I am praying YOU will be my tour guide 🙏🏻, I pray that I can travel soon. I look forward to walking in Jesus’ footsteps (at least somewhere…lol)…but I notice throughout many of your videos, you repeat, “I am the only one here”, or, “it is so quiet, there is no one around”….And when you say this, it reminds me of the time when Jesus told his disciples, “trust me when I say, there will come a time when no one will pray”, and “not even in Israel no one will pray” …..during many of your videos where Jesus carried his cross are many tourist shops, people walking on the same path talking on their cell phones, laughing, shopping…..to watch EVERY person walk on such a sacred and holy ground makes my heart heavy and sad….sad that the people of Israel today, think NOTHING of Jesus’ last path, a path that was his loneliest…but yet, your people walk on it as though it’s any other path. As a Catholic, with each step I am going to take, I will pray and remember EVER step, I will cry at EVERY fall that Jesus experienced. There is huge amounts of subtle blessing energy still present at this site. It certainly varies in intensity as you move about the property, some parts very little and I literally found myself saying, walk over that direction and unfortunate on a few instances you didn't go that way as I can feel what is still waiting to be discovered/appreciated. Also, I want to share with you where you took a natural pause (7:13 to around 7:40), has incredible energy in that exact spot. So, the funny thing is you stopped and spoke and stayed right where you needed to be even though most likely you have no conscious understanding of what I'm saying. I personally, love watching this videos as it allows me/us to experience these things and not have to travel half way around the world to do so. Keep up the good work, next time stop and stay around the supposed place where the transfiguration took place (little chapel) on the way out.

@Julian Clarke I am a little catholic woman. Follow the bible since my mather thought me to walk and talk. All people on earth are from God. Some are for God some against God. Isrealites have been lead by the hand of God and still are. If they generaly don't proclaim Jesus Christ to be their Messiah and living Son of their living God, it is becaouse the Lord has a plan that they hear and see and love last and enter the Kingdome of God first, make no mistake of reading the bible an ather way.
