@Wiseguys R Us TM My 2001 Lexus GS300 is still going strong with the 2JZ VVTI motor. Lexus is an excellent brand, especially from the early 2000's. I still love my BMW more.

Secondary air valve issues, not hard to replace/repair. Just have to be patient. I did notice a crack on the aluminum intake plenum, which was easily fixed with JB weld. Transmission is hard to shift in first gear when coming to a short stop and the ASK unit was dead and had to be replaced. The Logic 7 Amplifier is tempermental. Mine was dead when I got it, sourced a used one from e-bay and it worked for about 5 minutes, then died. The ASK unit is a magical piece of equipment that turns on most or all of the infotainment goodies in the car. I sourced mine from Tomas at BAVTEK auto. Sway bar end links were shot and I replaced them with excellent results. The hood struts were shot and replaced those too. The trunk struts were shot too (the hydraulics work fine). The Angel eye lights were dead on both sides and I replaced with 10W LED's. Looks amazing. No regrets with this car at all. It's 15 years old and stuff wears out. Just give it some normal maintenance and it'll bring countless driving rewards.

I know that this video is 3 years old but the 745i is a great car, many would disagree but in my opinion as an owner of a 2003 745i I can say its realy almost like driving a Bentley for bargain BMW money...if your mechanicly minded and can do most of the servicing and repairs yourself then its a great car for you,....however if your not capable of doing the maintenance work yourself then perhaps look for a simpler car like a Toyota for example. I absolutely love my 745i and I do my own maintenance on it...so for me it's not an expensive car to maintain as I'm only paying for parts, mine has 145,000 miles on the clock and runs great. Get one....but get a good one where the previous owners have taken care of it with a large file of invoices to prove that maintenance has been done, look for receipts for gearbox service, differential oil changes coolant and brake fluid changes...all the stuff that gets overlooked by owners who don't understand about cars and how they work...hope this helps somone...Good luck

Hello Ian, I am looking at 2003 745Li with 116 k miles on it at CAD $5500. I am not mechanically oriented, but as you mentioned this car was pleasure to drive during my brief review. Owner claims that car is regularly serviced and maintained at BMW service center, where his son (I was dealing with him for this car sale) works. However, I was told that file containing the papers is misplaced and service record could not be retrieved. Surprisingly the ODB plug-in at left of driver side was missing / taken out. No engine check lights, updated iDrive system and Transmission replacement was done at 106k miles (but I could not verify this input from Son). Everything seems works nicely, no hold ups....including brand new tires and breaks. I really liked the car but skeptical due to feedbacks on internet from owners stating 7 series is money pit. Does timely servicing helps in keeping these cars in excellent condition? Please advise whether I should go for this or what I need to review further. It's a vague question, but what would be my yearly operating cost for such car. Owner stated that at least for one year...there will not be any expenditure on this car.

@@NareshPasalkar Hi Naresh, It's difficult to say without seeing it but the fact that the obd plug is gone. ..I think I'd give it a miss if I'm being honest.. I mean how are you supposed to clear faults that arise in the future...I'd keep looking if I were you...

$1500 at the auction when you buy it drive it home it breaks down all of a sudden your out of warranty but it's okay "it's an old car" stay away from dealerships like this I seen this happen more than enough times from buy here pay here dealership like this

@@Blackjesus744 the only maintenance is that I take it to the dealership to get the transmission fluid checked and refilled . I do it every 2 years , they use special transmission fluid and if you put the wrong kind in your car will run ok for like over a year and you will have problems . I pay 160 every 2 years at the dealership everything else like oil changes I do it myself .
