former toyota tech here: I would remove the oil cap before starting an oil change as part of my routine and put it back as soon as i finished putting the oil in. no cap = no oil

I've had the factory rock rails on my 07 and I have the all pro offroad ones on my 2013. The factory rails work really well. The reason people want the kick out on the back. If you took a turn just a little to tight it will make sure you don't do body damage. The FJ has a kind of silly turning radius and is prone to hitting things just in front of the rear tire. If you do forest driving it makes a difference. I also like the all pro offroad and others because they stick out enough to be used as a step when accessing the roof rack. They do have the down side of being in the way when getting in, in the winter. You end up with wet spots on your left leg (driver side).

Ya, beyond not wanting to spend the money... Constantly dirty legs is the biggest reason I don't want aftermarket sliders. I think the factory ones are perfect!

Oil drains better when you take the cap off because with the cap on you get a vacuum effect. It’s like a water tank that will flow better when you open up the air cap at the top.

Great video! I have an almost identical mirror camera set up on my FJs (07 & '11, both silver as well!) Worth their weight in gold! I'm currently running the 12.3" Android head-unit in the '07 & just put in the 13.3" in my '11. (they can be a bit squirrely, but they are getting better). For the rear cams & maps/nav, it is like daylight & dark compared to the stock size; & the 13.3" is ginormous! Again, I really enjoy your content! 🙂👍

Thank you for watching! Do you run gaia on your android head units? If I get one of those head units gaia compatibility would be a must.

Where Oh Where do we get these great mirrors?? I would love to get one
@darranjacobsen43668 ай бұрын
X Truck driver and FJ and Int Scout owner here. Can you direct us where to find these mirrors? I hate my stock little back up camera. Also what year is Janky?
@EverymanOverland8 ай бұрын
So Janky is an 07, fender bulges to prove it... 😆 The rear view mirror can be found on Amazon. There are many different ones available these days. They're $125 and up in price, or there abouts. Just do a search for rear view mirror camera and you'll find 'em. Real easy to install if you know your way around 12v wiring. And to this day one of the best mods I have made. I can see all the time, loaded, unloaded don't matter. It can be a hassle in the rain sometimes, but it's really not that bad. I actually have 2 cameras, one that faces straight rearward that is my rear view mirror, and one that faces rear but downward that I feed to the stereo head unit. it comes on when I go into reverse so I can see directly behind me as the rear view mirror can be hard to exactly judge distance when you get real close to things.

Hmm interesting. Where I live these FJ Cruisers are 5x more expensive than 80 series, and the 80s are much more readily available too. What about 80 series that you like that make you wish you had one?
@EverymanOverland Жыл бұрын
Maybe just the fact that I've always wanted one. And they are solid front axle so In theory they're stronger and can articulate better on the rocks. Plus, I really wish there were more storage room in the FJ. We pack it all the way full every trip. We could use a bit more interior room. Or... Maybe I just want one of everything? Is that selfish?
@mechared3210 Жыл бұрын
@@EverymanOverland that’s a fair point sir. Yup I don’t think there’s anything stronger than the 80 series solid axle front as far as stock Toyota goes.
